  • Note I worded Extremity Dead-zone incorrectly; I kept referring to it as 'Extreme'. All fairly typical in my videos - I recorded this before my second cup of tea 😉.
    Here is a forum post which goes into further detail about what the Extremity Dead-zone and Reactivity settings are and do (possibly):

    You saved my day! Thank you very much for this tutorial on sensitivity. I have an old microsoft sidewinder joystick, and I assigned flight controls from your controller setup video. Next, I tweeked the sensitivity settings to what you displayed on your sensitivity setting preciseness video. Oh my goodness, these settings from your videos completely made the difference on my joystick and flying as realistic (and feel) as possible for the game purposes of MSFS 2020. I was about ready to get a refund and give up on MSFS 2020. Now, I can enjoy the game and it's amazing 2020/2021 graphics and modern features! Thank you, Huddison!

    I had read that sensitivity issues had been addressed, but I didn't know how. Thank you very much for this information. My personal peeve with MSFS has been the manner in which aeroplanes "lurch" off the runway - this should address that nicely. Many thanks for passing on the information - much appreciated.

    Another home-run for Huddison!! I have the Premium Deluxe FS2020 for 4 days now and I hated how the airplanes fly. Like you, I love Xplane 12 flight dynamics so the FS2020 was a big letdown. I kept adjusting things but nothing seemed to help much...........until now! your new sensitivity settings have TRANSORMED how the airplanes fly. As a RL Pilot I know how an airplane feels in the air and you described it perfectly. I used the Cessna Caravan for my testing because I wanted an airplane that was just heavy enough to show the attributes of the new settings. Well, I am thrilled that I can now fly FS2020 AND Xplane 12 and enjoy them both. Actually, my FS2020 now flies a bit more realistically than Xplane 12! Its heavenly. Thank you once again for your excellent help in these formerly frustrating matters. I pity my lovely Wife, she will have to endure my long-winded explanations of how much I love this now. Actually, she supports all of my Aviation activities, so I am blessed.

I tried a few settings as the sensitivity was like a jerky roller coaster ride and now so far I have found the following may be helpful to others for a start if the video settings are still not working. Totally agree with you. The sense of inertia, or slightly sluggish response of the aircraft that the "Reactivity" setting introduces is such a jump in dynamics. Much less twitchy. Much more of a sense of weight behind the controls. I like about 80% for yaw and pitch. I have some in the rudder too but still fiddling with that.

    Thanks for the update. I had not used the sim for a bit, and there was an update. 6 hours and 50 minutes later it was installed !! I have never had a update/ patch ever take this long. Normally it’s around 30 minutes or less. When I checked the content manager I found another 140. Luckily you can be selective.
    When I restarted I found the default airliners were missing. All good fun.
    I used your settings in the new sensitivity add ons , and yes they do make a difference. I have applied them to the Logitech Yoke, and my foot pedals
    Also as a matter of interest I have purchased the Waco WYMF5. If you like biplanes this is well worth the £ 12.99 . Very highly detailed. It takes a bit of practice to take off and land. There is a lot of torque from the 300 bhp rotary engine. It also sounds very accurate. All the switches make a nice click as well. The smoke switch works , but it’s not supported yet.

    The reactivity is just slowing down your inputs if you move the joystick too fast. Basically set the reactivity to 0%
    Move the joystick quick and you will see how it will move it in the sim slowly. If you move the joystick with the speed corresponding the reactivity settings your input and the output in the game will be same (1:1). That what is doing the reactivity. Not letting you to make fast movements. Outputs your commands with slower speed. This is useful if you have bigger curve in sensitivity. When you reach the most steep part of your curve, the reactivity comes very handy. IF you failed to understand again. Go to the axis settings and move your joystick while trying different reactivity settings. :)

    The "Extremity Dead Zone" simply cuts off the outer range of the movement of your joystick or yoke.

    Reactivity seems to add some form of input lag, if you lower its value.

    • @JonathanMartin-df2ee

      In flaring, it depends what aircraft you're flying. For commercial jets its only really 2.5 deg nose up attitude for the flare, its more of a check/close/hold manoeuvre. For smaller aircraft it's just holding it off till it lands by itself.

    • @segundoaltieri21
      @segundoaltieri21 Před 3 lety +5

      @MrVilla2000 Its hard for me to put it in words cause I speak Spanish but I’ll do my best..
      If you put it to 50%, when you turn your yoke to the very end the simulator interprets that you are turning it 50% (but you’re turning your yoke 100%), that means you can be more precise with small turns on the sim, but you cant roll the airplane yoke to the maximum, so you’re loosing the 50% of the yoke but the other 50% its easy to control

    • @segundoaltieri21
      @segundoaltieri21 Před 3 lety +2

      I’ll explain it in Spanish in case you or somebody else does:
      La “zona sin cobertura” (extremity deadzone) te deja limitar el giro maximo de tu timon/joystick, lo que significa que si lo giras al maximo, el simulador interpreta que estas girando menos (si lo pones en 50% y giras al maximo el simulador interpreta que estas girando el 50%), el beneficio es que podes hacer giros pequeños mas precisos, ya que girando mucho el joystick se gira poco en el juego, lo malo es que no podras girar a todo lo que da si quisieras, ya que el juego solo interpretaria que estas girando la mitad (o el porcentaje que le pongas en las configuraciones)

    I've only briefly tried tweaking these settings after watching the video and it seems like the "extreme dead zone" helped a lot. I put it up around 30 or so, I can't quite remember and it seemed like it gave the airplane some weight and stability. It felt a lot better. Still some tweaking, but you've sent us in the right direction. The one thing that I don't like about this sim is how light and squirrely the airplanes are, very unrealistic, but this seems like it has the potential to address this problem. I've been looking for someone to post a video about these two new settings ever since they became available with the Dec 22nd Major Update. Yours is the first I've come upon, so thank you. I've noticed on those GA aircraft I've taken the time to take a close look that the range of motion of the ailerons, stabilizer, and rudder is considerably less than that the range of motion of my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick. That suggests to me that setting the Extremity Dead Zone to match the joystick's range of motion may be of some benefit. I'm interested, if you should chose to do so, what insight you might bring to the subject.

      @@Huddison I haven't enough experience as yet to feel confidant that I can make effective use of of the new settings which is why I've been looking for someone with more experience to share their thoughts. However, I have gone as far as looking at how setting the Extremity Dead Zone effects the presentation of the curve for the related axis. My first thought is that it makes a change of slope, essentially flattening out the curve that was imposed by the Sensitivity setting, making the response more uniform across the range of motion. I suspect that using an Extremity Dead Zone Setting of more than a few percent would impact one's choice for the Sensitivity Setting. Whether or not any of this is true I don't know. Regarding Reactivity - Having seen how a rapid large movement on a control axis effects the path followed by the "dot" when the Reactivity has been changed (in that the dot can move away considerably from the line it would otherwise follow) has put me off from experimenting with the setting until such time as I settle on which aircraft I will make an effort to become thoroughly familiar with. Thank you for engaging on this topic.

    People seem to always try to compensate physics engine deficiencies fiddling with the control curves/deadzones. That's pure bullshit. When you put your controls in the extreme positions the sim should respond as if the actual control surfaces were deflected to the maximum. Also, the only "reactivity" you need in a sim is the REDUCED input lag. Preferably to zero. Not increased. If the all linear curves/no deadzones/no lag setup is acting strange when you are flying on a semi-decent controller, that means Microsoft needs to fire Asobo, not ask them to add more settings.

    connection to run the game smoth but i will say it has
    mostly to do with bad software programing and game server issue.
    Because i run the game with 500mbit fiber connection have
    72 fps cpu gpu vram and ram with less than 50 percent use and still
    have lag and stutter so conclusion is game will not run smoth even
    with a NASA computer and the fastest connection avaible.
    Fight sim 2020 sofware is bad programing on slow gameserver.
    In comparison i run Ace combat 7 smoth with 235 fps.
    Microsoft it is time to wake up and fix this !!!

      You really can't compare Ace Combat 7 to MSFS 2020: 2 completely different programs and purposes.
      All the major 'aviation' Flight Simulators were troublesome to run smoothly when they first launched. FSX waa a major pain to run with good settings back in the day, even to maintain 30 fps! X-Plane had similar problems, until the recent Vulcan update. Give the Sim time to develop; things should only improve.

      @Carsten Sommer As Huddison pointed out, it is sorta still 'early' day for MSFS. And it is always easier to complain about the game rather than your own equipment. My Internet is a lot less than yours (65 ish Mbps WiFi), I use a Gigabyte RTX 2080 Super GPU, 32MB Ram at 2666 MHz, Intel i7 8700K chip, MSI Bazooka MB and have the sim on a Samsung SSD. So a medium system that I built about 1.5 years ago. On average, I get around 40fps - quite enough. Lag and stutter are absolutely minimal for me, when they happen. My advice is to check your components. Some graphic cards/chips may work better than others with this sim. But yeah, overall the sim and servers needs optimising.
