  • Asobo Studio have done something incredible with Microsoft Flight Simulator. The classic franchise's return has been a triumphant one, but at the same time, given how much granular control it offers in its authentic simulation and the staggering level of detail it displays, it's understandable that many - especially those not too familiar with the genre - might find the game a bit daunting, especially in the early goings.
    Don't worry though- here, we've compiled a list of fourteen basic tips and tricks that should make your early hours with the game much smoother.

    Well, you're making a video about tips for beginners, but you show bad piloting, planes satalling on takeoff, diving nose into the ground during landing, overspeeding, over-maneuvering, things that in real life will never happen, this is no GTA Game.
    If you're new the best tip is:
    1) Buy a Joystick (most recommended is Logitech 3D Pro, Cheap, Durable and has many controls for your plane and camera)
    2) Be easy on the controls if you're using a controller, slow and soft movements, don't overcompensate if you're plane is not going in the direction you want, and USE YOUR TRIM, so you can relax and stop fighting the plane.
    3) Start watching actual aviation videos, this is a Flight SIMULATOR, go and watch how pilots do it in real life, watch channels like Aviation101 (Cessna), Steveo1Kenevo (BTM), Trent Palmer (Bush Planes), and try to simulate those real procedures in your sim, that's how it's meant to be played.
    That way you'll inmerse yourself in this beautiful passion that is Aviation and maybe get inspired enough to become an actual Pilot.

    Oh wow, where to start... okay, to begin with, the tutorials are... standard at best, but set you up to fail with a sky high airport elevation in a hot area to take off from and starting you far too high on the landing mission. The others are... serviceable though. I agree, Asobo has hit it out of the park with this one. Now... when you take off, gentle pressure back. The way you yanked tha plane into the air you probably ripped off most of the tail because you can see it smack into the ground. gentle pressure, one notch of flaps and the plane will want to leave the earth on it's own. Same thing with landing. 90 knots in a cessna a good landing does not make. 60 minimum, beginner tip: if you have to force the plane down, you shouldn't be landing you should be going around. Basically landing is decending gently and dropping off the speed enough that the plane just stops flying a few inches above the runway. That poor cessna would be in a smoking crater on the runway with that hard push. Generally anytime gauges are blinking red it's a bad thing.. I'm not trying to be mean, just pointing out some observations. It's a simulator, not a game you can sit down and just learn on your own. There are pilot's lessons for a reason. If you want to get good with the game, watch some videos on the basics of how to fly a real one and then try to emulate that. We all have to start somewhere, glad you're enjoying the sim.

    Just an added tip on finding your house or any other location. You can input GCS coordinates in the search bar. So if you know the latitude and longitude of where you are going (like your house), the game will make a custom marker that you can use just like a point of interest. If you are looking for GCS codes then Google Maps is great for it because you can point or find any place on the globe and easily get the coordinates that you are looking for.

      That is exactly what I thought until I tried one. 1) It is a great method to familiarise yourself with flight procedures if you are an anxious flyer 2) Most of us will never see the plane cockpit - here you can see those in detail 3) Some opinions pointed out that pilots like this sort of programs, as it allows them to try the limits of planes they will never reach in real life 4) Remember that every big commercial airline pilot initially trains the flight in ....simulator. 5) It caught the interest of my very young daughter - she enjoyed "flying" solo from start to (crash)landing. Perhaps one day she will become a pilot? 6) Paid extras to the game - recently one was designed to fund the rebuilding of the Antonov plane (the biggest ever one), so like-minded people can unite in a shared goal It does open some possibilities and in my opinion, is a much better way of spending time than playing Doom. Give it a try.

    (1) "You might find the game [to be] a bit daunting." An understatement if ever there was one. While FS2020 offers flying lessons, just like with FSX, FS2020 offers NO help in setting up the game. You've gotta figure that out (of which there are well over a hundred things that must be set up to make even one airplane flyable) for yourself from CZcams tutorials (such as this one) created by people who bought the product before you did. Having prior knowledge of FSX may even complicate things for you as there are more and different things that have to be set up, too. While some airplanes are complete in their functionality and operate realistically (such as the Cessna 172 G1000), many are not. Press a button in these airplanes and you're likely to see the words "not implemented". I have every expectation that one day FS2020 will be an excellent flight simulator, but--at the moment--I see it as being only a 'game' in which to do some quite enjoyable 'virtual tourism'.
    (2) As for 'virtual tourism' ..... While the WAY scenery is presented in FS2020 is a million times better than in FSX, scenery of built up (3-D enhanced) areas is NO MORE REAL than that of FSX. A correction I'll make is this: "If you get the urge to fly over to where your house should be", YOU WON'T FIND IT. Oh, you'll find a house on your property, but the house will definitely NOT look like your house. That's because the vast majority of buildings and houses (of which there are thousands of different very beautifully-created examples) are auto-generated scenery. For major cities like San Francisco and New York City for example, FS2020 does create the prominent real landmarks like the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State building, but while less-prominent buildings will certainly appear to be real, close inspection will reveal they are only approximations. One prominent thing they missed in NYC is the Verrazano Narrows bridge, which is a suspension bridge just like the Golden Gate. In FS2020, the bridge is shown merely as an ordinary concrete span bridge. New Yorkers are going to be disappointed--if not insulted.
    (3) A most horrible presentation of natural scenery. While natural scenery such as mountains, the Grand Canyon, and the buttes of Monument Valley appear very realistic, water surface areas such as oceans and large lakes are shown as glass-smooth mirrors just like ponds. Not a ripple to be found! Consequently, cloud reflections on the water are as sharp and clear as the real clouds above. Sun reflections are blinding. This is very annoying as it is immediately recognizable as being nothing like real life. FS2020 should NEVER have been released with this major scenery flaw. While storms and cloud layers in which to fly or fly above are okay, it's best to do your sightseeing in ONLY totally cloudless skies.
    Conclusion: If you have no previous experience with a flight sim, you're absolutely going to love FS2020--until you've flown it enough to be annoyed with the things I've mentioned. Over time (a LONG time I have to project) I think FS2020 will be a better FLIGHT SIMULATOR than FSX, but until then--while I'm more interested in expanding my skills as a pilot than only doing some nice sightseeing--I'm going to continue to spend most of my time on FSX.
    Another thing that gravely concerns me is the amount of time it's going to take Osobo Studios to correct the bugs in FS2020. As a developer of many computer games and with what I suspect is a limited number of developers and support personnel, I think bug fixing in ALL their games is going to be much prolonged.

    I would love to see this updated for the latest version of MSFS 2020, the Game of the Year version. The tutorials have changed since this video came out, and as a newbie, they don't seem very comprehensive. Lesson 7 on setting trim is especially frustrating, even after watching numerous videos on YT to better understand trim, I cannot seem to get the controls right in the tutorial. What I can't figure out is why the tutorials begin *in the air* -- wouldn't you logically start training on the ground? There's very little to no explanation of the parts of the plane (aileron? elevator? altimeter?), what they do, etc. So for new pilots, it's not very clear how to begin, and when something doesn't go right, there's no explanation as to what went wrong and how to fix it.

    • @guywholikesplanes
      @guywholikesplanes Před rokem

      The altimeter is the instrument that shows you how high you are in relation to a set refference( there is also a radioaltimeter on some aircraft, that shows you how high you are related to the actual terrain under you. The ailerons are the control surfaces on the outer part of the wing that deflect the air flowing around the wing, to make the aircraft roll. They are moved by turning the yoke left or right( like a car's steering wheel), or moving the flight stick left or right. The elevators are the control surfaces on the horizontal part of the tail that help move the aircraft's nose up or down. They are controled by moving the yoke/flight stick forward or back. Now moving on to trim. You might notice when flying that you have to constantly imput controls to make the aircraft fly straight. For beginner flight sim level stuff, ypu should just use the trim commands to make the aircraft fly straight. When you are all set up for cruise(flaps up, cruise power, at or near the desired cruise speed), go into the cockpit and choose a reference point( a distand mountain top, an isolated house etc), then use the trim commands instead of the primary flight controls to make the aircraft fly straight towards that point without any further input. Now, in a sim it's quite a bit harder to do this than irl, where you can feel the forces you are applying on the stick, but if you take it slow, and don't overdo it( go a tiny bit, see how the plane reacts, then repeat), you can enjoy the joy of flying straight and level.
