I've used and loved my foodsaver for a long time, but the price of the bags was *killing* me! After watching this vid, I rushed right over to SorbentSystems and bought the snorkel vac and a nice assortment of bags. It got here yesterday, and of course I had to try it out. I LOVE it! I will still use the foodsaver for certain things, but this one is my new fave! GREAT tip about the paper towel. Thank you!!!!

On the soap - Manufacturers double wrap their soap bars to retain moisture. They do this because a soft soap bar sloughs off more soap than a hard bar and thus you go back to buy another package of soap sooner and they make more money in the long run. When I buy soap, I always unwrap and leave all the bars from a package in the open air to harden before I use them. I still get plenty of soap for washing and the bars last a lot longer.

I am a retired vocational teacher and have demo a few demos. Your demo was excellent. We process our own produce for sale and want to vacuum the product. The cost of the Food Saver bags just wouldn't let us do it. Thank you for the link to the seal you use. It is also cheaper than the Food Saver.

Today, I went to the local supermarket for a newspaper, and ran into a meat sale. So, I grabbed a bunch of seasoning ham hocks and neck bones for this year's Thanksgiving dinner.
Then, I unboxed my new vacuum sealer (same as yours + 1,000 bags) and watched this video. I watched it three times. The third time, I moved simultaneously with you. When you moved, I moved. I caught every snag you mentioned. And, since I had so much meat to seal, I just kept on moving as you did.
By the last bag of meat, I consider myself skilled in using my new vacuum sealer! I even resized one bag!
Is it OK to say, "'I love you?"
Now. Could you make a video showing how to seal up something drippy, LOL???
    Hugs!!!

Thank you so much for your video on Sorbent vacuum sealers. I have wanted a vacuum sealer for years but couldn't justify the cost of the Foodsaver bags. I bought the Sorbent system and I love it. I am single and retired so it has been hard to cook for one person. Now I have the ability to cook big batches and freeze without the problem of freezer burn. Enjoy your videos.

imstillworkin - I bought this same unit probably about the time you made this video, a good ten years ago, maybe a bit less, but for some reason I never used and then it got 'misplaced' by my wife (one spring cleaning) as, well, I never used it.
Now I'm ready to start playing with Sous Vide, so I tore the house upside down looking for, but for months, never found it. Finally, just a few days ago, I found it, hiding pretty much in plain sight.
Anyway, your vid was very informative and will no doubt lead to a lot less of beating my head against the wall. I am just about to use it for the first time. Point being, thank you very much.
ps - I've checked out your channel and subscribed. I see there are many more vids of yours that I wlll be checking. Thanks for all of that as well.

It's funny how people are so different...my mom used to buy Dove soap bars and keep them for months before using as they would harden (a.k.a. dry out) so that they do not 'melt' or disintegrate as much in the bathroom/water (last longer) and you are doing the exact opposite.

I been looking for a vacuum sealer and found this sealer website. Im glad to see a video on how they handle. They are so much cheaper than the foodsaver brand and then you have to buy foodsaver nags so they really can stick it to you that way too. I think I will go with the Sorbent sealer myself. The downfall they have is no tube for jar canning. I guess I can live with out that feature.

I may start saving bags that food come in that are thick, as well. I can use them as liners, too. Where theres a will, theres a way. Thanks for sparking some ideas in me wee brain...lol

***** That split second it takes for the snorkel to retreat before the sealing bar descends is enough to push in some air. Considering the enormous force generated by atmospheric pressure. You might want to consider using o2 absorbers in conjunction. A true vacuum seal without those ribbed bags is either an internal chambered vacuum sealer (expensive) or using ziplock cutouts from the ends of ziplockbags (to form a channel) on a Foodsaver style (non retreating snorkel) sealer. Good video though ;)

NO ... bad sealing practices. you do not seal a bag that has a bag inside of it. oxygen will be left inside of your original packaging especially if it is plastic. there would be no purpose to reseal it it would last no longer than if you did not seal it at all

    • @whatsup7202
