    Brilliant!!!! We moved to South America and I brought my foodsaver machine but I can't use it because the foodsaver plastic is so expensive here like it would be made of gold. This video is brilliant!!! I am soooo excited that I will be able to use the machine again with your method using simple ziploc bags. Sending you hugs across the miles from South America from Ecuador!!!!! (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))))))))))

      Thank you for your comment. The real bag for vacuum seal has pattern. That allow the machine sucking the air then seal. For ziploc bag, the plastic smooth. The top of ziploc bag allow air to come out then we seal above it to make sure the air not coming in again.

    I have the same model “Food Saver” vacuum sealer. So much cheaper then the other brand, by about it $50 less. Works just as good. Ty! Been wanting a machine for a few years, but I refuse due to the cost of special bags and rolls. I did the math, it’s NOT cost efficient unless your freezing something for months!! However using regular bags I think I might buy a machine now. I’m looking at Food Saver 4840, but a lot of reviews wrote food wont seal properly. There are so many models, why? I’m not talking about high end with a lot of bells and whistles. There are like 3 models that are so similar, different prices.

      Faye Lengenfelder another suggestion for you - I got rid of most of my plastic containers and use wide mouth canning jars. I can vacuum seal anything with an adapter. When pasta, rice, cookies, etc, are on sale, I buy a bunch and pour in the jars. The beauty is you can keep resealing after you take some out.
      I only use wide mouth because they are a bit shorter and I can fit my hand inside when cleaning.
      Now I can use ziplocks for freezer and save energy more money!!

      All of them, you need to blanch vegetables before you freeze. This method good and save some money for me. But be careful while you seal the plastic. It's easy to get a small hole, because Ziploc bag does not design for vacuum. But for vegetables we just need to freeze to prolonged the freshness...it okay

      Hi, because ziploc bag is flat..if you see for example Foodsaver Bag...it has plaid design, create groove for air to flow out before the bag seal. That half zipper create small hole for air, then seal above the zipper.

    • @mikemcshea9144
      @mikemcshea9144 Před 5 lety +42

      I hope you all realize that ZipLoc bags are polyethylene which allows atmosphere to pass through. It will appear to be vacuumed for maybe 5 minutes, but quite soon after you have created a vacuum seal with a polyethylene bag, it will start getting loose and reinflate. Vacuum sealing must be done with what are called barrier bags. They are readily available from ULINE and MUCH less expensive than the FoodSaver bags, probably less expensive than ZipLoc Freezer bags too. How do I know this? I'm in the vacuum sealing industry and it's the very first thing you learn.

    • @MichiganTrikker
      @MichiganTrikker Před 3 lety +4

      it keeps the top open just enough that it allows all the air to be sucked out during vacuuming. With sealer bags, one side is a pleated design, which still lets it suck air out, until it seals it off, so there is not any need for that trick with the bags already designed for sealers.

      Where are you getting that figure???
      The ziplocks I purchase are anywhere from .06 - .17 each. For freezer grade too.

      He’s not into self sufficiency or has grown his own food.
      Saving what you’ve grown (or bought cheap in bulk) in inexpensive bags to store long term is Much less expensive in the long run (and usually healthier) than depending on food from an unknown source from your local grocer who only has. 3day supply of Anything. And if not resupplied Every 3 days actually has Nothing.
      How priceless such food as this when the food flow into your community is disrupted for what ever reason.

      Walmart (Mainstays) makes their own brand of sealer rolls now they are half the price. I tried this method and they were too tempranental. The seals broke very easily and even if you do it perfectly the seal integrity is poor. I can't trust this method 100%to protect my long term storage from freezer burn
