Can you please tell me where I can learn how to make the plug and mold for a boat where did you learn? If you have any good book or movie suggestions it would be very helpful and appreciated.
excellent job. I'm making a boat of the same size, but at the end of the shape I had the impression that it got very wide. How wide is your boat? thank you
Is there a way to just get a one time build by laying the glass on the bottom of a boat ..I just need a small boat that's 8x4 to be legal for the fishing I do..so I was thinking to apply something to the hull so the boat I'm building will pop rite off
would depend on the finish of the boat you want to 'pop' one off Jim. If it is a smooth shiny painted finish you could just coat with wax and pva release agent and that should work. You would also have to make sure though that the design of the boat youre using as a mold allows you to remove the fibreglass with no negative draw sections that would 'lock' it on to the orignal.
cameron300462 thank you so much..I'm not concerned with the finish..I just need a boat so I'm following the rules..so I was wanting to use basalt fiber and epoxy..can that process work the same
its not paint jayson. its flowcoat. its like gelcoat but it contains wax so it doesnt stay sticky. you still have to wet rub, polish and wax it tho before you start laying your mold up.
@@cameron300462 Thank you for your response. What finish should my plywood then be at before laminating if I am to use a mold release wax on the plug? I am to create a female mold now, just having a difficulty on the surface finish of my wood plug.
Hi! I am just interested if I could use lacquer instead of those resins to make fiberglass strong If I can't , tell me the base materials I should use :D
MercedesBenz Channel sorry that will never work. Fiberglass gets strength from the long glass like fibers. Then it's stiffness comes from the resin. The resin is a compound that forms extremely long chains of molecules when catalyzed which bind the fibers together. Epoxies Glue the fibers together. The people selling you the product are usually happy to explain which one works the best in each case.
what is the number of plug painting proucess sir? after putty and sending l saw gray colour and than white colour.is that white colour is gelcoat or normal paint? before you put black gelcoat. thanks
+sancak099 Hi. Plug process is timber, glass mat with resin, Q-cell filler ( white ), block sand, grey flocoat, block sand back flat, ( the white you can see there is where it goes back through to the filler ), then another coat of the flocoat , and then sand sand sand all the way up to a polished finish. Then wax coats. Then it is ready for the black mold gelcoat.
Mold has 6 layers of 450g csm ( chopped strand matt ) and 1 225gram csm which makes it around 6mm thick. Finished hull has 1 x 225g csm and 1 x 300g csm and 3 x 450g csm which finishes up about 4mm thick. All done in polyester resin.
The plug and Mold was about 5 months unpaid work in my spare time. By the time I had the first completed YABBY out of the mold materials cost was about 3 grand. But have made and sold a couple since then
why is it so hard to find a vid that actually shows the how to's of applying the fiberglass... like what types, which weights, and how many layers... smh
Probably because the type of resins, weights of glass matt and amount of layers depends on the individual job you are doing and the thicknesses required for the end product maybe..??
I was frustrated by that question too, what are usual layups? These are specified in boat plans you can buy. There is also a book I have yet to read: "Elements of Boat Strength" by Dave Gerr with an easy to use scantling system to answer those questions for FRP, wood and aluminium.
I wish i was rich enough to stop watching these videos and go buy me a brand new boat without worrying about damn molds, fibreglass, gel coat, electrical systems and outboard engine mechanical system.
cameron para el acabado final del modelo macho que pintura utizastes o usastes top coat.??

nice moul fiberglass boat
Hey Cameron, what paint or type of paint did you use for the gloss finish for the plug? Won't wax remove that paint and resin strip it off? Thanks.

you should put a layer of glass over the wood. then a fairing compound. then your flowcoat

you have to use compatible products for all fibreglass work. Talk to your supplier, they will give you the imfo you need. thanks

I've been researching into building boats and discovered an awesome resource at Denelle boat builder (google it if you're interested)
Check out boat works today on youtube
