In this video I show the steps and procedures necessary to remove and replace the cabin air filter is on the Nissan Xterra in the sun frontier. The same procedure can be taken for the Nissan Pathfinder as well. Here’s 2005 to 2018. For anyone that wants to know a quick answer, the arrows are supposed to be pointing down....
Confirmed, the ones I took out that came with the truck were also pointing downwards
U can tell by the debris on the old filter
Thank you! That’s all I needed to know as I forgot to look when I pulled the old ones out
GOAT
Good info; when I replace mine I also vacuum out the areas before putting the new ones in.
Did he mentioned arrow marking for direction of air flow? My Xterra did not have filters
Watched 3 other videos and yours was the only one that explained how to access the filter area and then mentioning that you should pinch the filter to get it started.
Thanks
A long flat stick, like a paint stirrer, helps in pushing the first filter over and into place. Long screwdriver works too. Hands definitely don't fit.
I am not handy or experienced with car stuff but this tutorial was extremely helpful and easy to follow. Thank you!
Good info, found the issue for low air flow you saved me lots of headaches!
He didn’t mention that there are arrows on the sides of the filter that help us know which side to put the filters in to direct airflow. Either way, I’ll be trying this, thank you for sharing! Good POV tutorial!
mouse nest in mine!
but so, which way does the air flow? Up or down?
@@twodogs91 The air flow arrows should point towards the floor.
@@twodogs91 j jni
@@twodogs91 how did you get the filter out without dropping the nest into the blower housing
You are amazing! This has been driving my husband and I crazy for years and the cost/time it was going to take to get it fixed was ridiculous. THANK YOU!
dealer wants $89.00 plus to replace them wow.
Thank you. Back when my new 2013 Xterra went in for it's first Cabin Filter replacement, the dealership broke the tab on the door then said they wouldn't fix/replace it. ( Meaning, do I really want to take them to small claims court over this tab? ) I've had to zip tie the door shut all these years. Then when I go in for a new filter they assure me things were done right. Nope. Thanks to your video I just opened it to replace it on my own for the first time, and saw how mutilated the air filters were. They just jammed them in leaving plenty of room for leaves to gather around them. Again, thanks to you I slid my new filters in carefully so that they're still two solid rectangles that touch all edges of the interior compartment. I can't trust anyone but me to do these ever again.
Thanks so much for making this video. Didn't know it was this easy now I'm saving lots of money not going to the dealer to have it done.
Thanks Aaron. I have a 2019 Frontier and the install was straightforward. Thanks a lot for posting this.
Excellent video, simple and under 5-minutes✨
Thank you for this. Mine was so bad that the lack of airflow was causing the evaporator to freeze up on long trips. All good now.
Nissan near me wants close to $100 for this...well aht aht not me!! This woman is gonna go change her air filter tah day herself!!! Thanks for the video!!
Good for u! That’s outrageous. Thanks for the support!
My Nissan Xterra’s cabin filters were quite nasty thank you for your helpful instructions! It made it very easy to change!! 😌
Dang you're a cutie pie are you
Just done, thank you for the video. Compared with an Elantra everything is a little more tricky. I was worried to break the left side of the glove compartment.
Thank You So Much! You made it so easy to do!
(And mine needed changing desperately🤮!)
Really helpful tnx Aaron.
Thank you very much, I couldn’t find it but now I know.
Good presentation. Very helpful. Thanks. Never saw what the need for the socket tool was, though.
Yeah I guess it wasn't needed for this one.
Great instructional. Quite helpful.
Nissan just loves putting things like that in a weird spot. Thanks for the video. Mine needed to be changed.
ya they sure do! thanks!
trust this is an easy access spot compared to most vehicles
Actually this one is easy.
Thanks! Most helpful!
Thank you for this!
Thanks man! Just did it
Ty sir. Easy & on point.
Thank you for this video
Thank you very much for sharing, now I don’t have to pay at the dealer to do it👍👍👍
Very good explanation! Thank you!
This was really helpful. I have the factory service manual but the drawing in it isn't very clear. Thanks.
Great video
Great in service, thanks
THANK YOU VERY MUCH ! ! !
Awesome teacher! Thanks!!
He's not too bright he forgot to tell people the airflow the arrow goes downward on the filter
Thank you!
Thanks for info
Thanks!
WOW! I did not know about this.
Good info👍🏼
muy creativo para los qué queremos saber algo y darle mantenimiento a nuestro carro Gracias
Thank you
Question will this increase air flow I noticed that when I turn it on high it doesn't get very cold on 4 ?
Wal Mart broke my tab. Can this thing be bolted in? I see a hole for one but the 10mm used in the oil filter access panel is too long for it. I need to scure it some other way.
does replacing them help with the smell?? sometimes the air that blows out smells kind of weird and i’m wondering if changing the filters is the solution!
I suspect I have a dead mouse or a nest sitting on top of the cabin filter. any way to access the top of filter before removing so I don't drop the mouse droppings/nest into the blower housing as I slide the filters out?
air flow direction downward or up? my xterra didn't have filters so I didn't have any reference which way.
thank you dad ;)
Hi, do you know if this would be the same for Suzuki Equators?
The local VIP Auto wanted $78.10 to do this...ridiculous!...So easy to do at home :)
Thanks
Does anyone knows of the rear system hs it's separate filter? The reason I'm asking is because recently the main front system stopped working and the reason was the the both filters behind the glove compartments were litteraly completely clogged by dirt and debres. This made blower motor work so hard the it blew two 15A fuses under the hood. So now I'm thinking from where the rear system takes air?
Does the air flow arrow point down to the floor ?
Does anyone knows is there is separate air fileter for the REAR SYSTEM? The reason I'm asking is because recently my front system stopped working and the reason was that the two filters behind the glove compartments were litteraly completely clogged with all kind of debree. That made blower motor to fail and trigger two 15A fuses to burn under the hood. So I know there was no way that rear motor was using the same filters.
Ques. I both my 2005 Xterra from the dealer in 2005 new. I didn't know there is air filter to be replaced. Anyway today I got the filter to change it what I see there were no filters. Last 14 years 160k miles I drow without filters. İs it normal new Xterras comes without filters...
Yes, frontiers are the same. As with titans and armadas. Some years came with filters. Some don’t.
My 2011 Frontier has the filters.
@@7islander The SV does not have them from factory but the upper SL has them. My question is the blower different? Seems unlikely.
I snapped my tab, any remedies? I duct taped it. 😑
I did mine and the tab broke. It breaks very easily. I used a twisty tie from the produce section and put it thru the hole and wrapped it around. It seems to hold the cover in place. I don't know why Nissan put a hole there without a bolt to hold the cover.
Thanks for posting this haha, I did the same thing and almost freaked out for a second.
You’re a lifesaver
Didn’t you mention a 5/16 or 8 mm socket? Just wondering, thanks for the video
Can this cause a check engine light to come on?
Is there a arrow on them ?. Letting you know how to put them in for airflow?
Just bought a 2019 frontier and having dash noises like really bad rattles and when I turn the corner it sounds like a ball is rolling from side to side. Any ideas? Only have 70 miles on it and it comes from the passenger side near the window. Just curious if you had a problem like this?
most likely something fell inside the ventilation system from the top vent for the windshield. This will require a trip to the dealer because they may have to take some of the dash apart to get to the source of the noise. Sucks. Probably a little pebble, or something.
Did you get it fixed? I had similar noises I thought was the dash turned out it was my door speaker
I had similar noises too. Couple of times I mysteriously found some black screws on the floor, seats.
Thank's for the video. There were no filters inside when I opened the cover. That's probably why the heat hasn't been working well at idle. Is there supposed to be some kind of holder to retain the filters? Looking inside it's just an open cavity. I feel like the filters would just fall in there without some kind of guidance. It was dark and snowing out so I'll have to take it inside to get a better look, any advise on whats supposed to be in there would be appreciated. I feel like something is missing which is why there were no filters
I think this is what you're looking for: www.tascaparts.com/oem-parts/nissan-front-cover-27122ea000?origin=pla. It's part #27122 you can get them from a few different locations. I'd guess yours is missing because the plastic retaining clip broke off. I only know about this because I just broke mine. There are a few ways to fasten the cover without it - I'm planning on using a fender nut and a 1/2" bolt. You can see more discussion here: www.clubfrontier.org/threads/cabin-air-filter-cover.309393/. Hope this helps.
Apparently the base model doesn't come with the filters installed. Pretty stingy of Nissan. In any event, lack of filters wouldn't stop your heater from working. If anything I would expect better airflow without them.
Probably just low on coolant. Need to burp the system there’s tons of videos on CZcams for that.
Fill the overflow a little over the fill line. Like this on all xterr a from 2005-2015
I always spray lysol down there before I put the new filter in the box
What is the air flow bottom to top or top to bottom
Arrow pointed down.
My Nissan Frontier has 216,000 miles and I've never even heard about cabin filters. I'm doing mine tomorrow. Can't imagine how gross they must be.
I just changed mine and it’s 8 years old. Lots of leaves and pollen.
Don't the new ones need to be installed with the air flow arrow pointing in the same position as the old ones, no one seems to mention this
CopperCettle yes, surprised he didn’t mention it. The airflow arrow should be pointing down towards the ground.
@@sawdeanz Just replaced mine today with some from Rock Auto for about $6.00, the dealer wanted $75 to replace these.
Be aware that some have word "up" and directional arrows. Point those filters UP. Others have "airflow" and directional arrows. Point those filters DOWN. Airflow goes from top to bottom.
@@sawdeanz thank you for this. I was trying to figure it out too.
Opened mine up and there aren't even any filters in it🤣
Not to get some, I was just going to clean them TBH but now I need to drop some $ into it.
I wanna say cabin filters are not terribly expensive. Changed mine in a 09 frontier and I believe it was not more than $20. I'm about to replace them again because of allergy season.
what type/brand of filters does a nissan Xterra take?
Dang you're a cutie pie are you single and the ding-dong forgot to mention the arrow should be pointing downward he didn't even mention anything like that
Which direction do the filters go on
Arrow down
I read these filters are the cause of the ac resistor constantly burning out.
Great video but I can't find model/number of the filters, anybody?
You didn't mention the arrow showing which way the air flow is.
Did mine for the first time.... Found out when I bought it last year they just decided not to put one in! LoL
Dealership labor is at 105.00 bucks an hour, they also want twice the cost for the filters. Do it yourself😀
Broke the fuck out of that tab lmao
Changed mine & now when I turn the air on high it vibrates really bad lol
Is that with the AC on or off. It could just be shivering...😜😂🤣
Shay, did you fix this?
The arrow of the filter is supposed to go up or down
I actually broke the clips the first time I did it
Ya they sure are brittle. I broke one off a Frontier a while back. It’s some pretty weak plastic Nissan uses.
Aaron Hines lol, true when changing the radio a broke the center console.
I did the same thing.
Broke my clip as well while trying to get the air filter door off. Haven't thought of a fix yet. Small cable tie around that one piece with the hole in it and around the back slotted piece that's on the left on the door?
@@MesoStorm yup that's exactly what I did and works great
He said careful not to break it as i broke it
I broke the plastic tab 😅
You didn't show which way the air flow arrows are supposed to face..
Dealer ship charing me 80 for this
I have a 2012 xterra and i just checked the cabin filters. And yours look brand new compared to mine. I bet a pound of crap came out of my filters. Those filters have not been changed in YEARS. And on the subject what the hell was nissan thinking? What a stupid design. Total pain in the @$$ to remove and re install filters. One of those stand on your head, use 1 hand only and feel your way cuz u sure as hell cant see what your doing. And whoever took the cover off before me broke the flimsy @$$ little tab. What a JOKE! thank you nissan!
No direction with air flow? The replacement is not as easy as your video shows.
Arrow down
Will this make it blow out cold air
Most ridiculous design ever need to send engineers to subaru or Toyota for training class
Amen brother, I just replaced mine for the second time and I remember now why I let it go for so long. Not only is the process a complete pain in the ass, but the filters being two pieces mean there is stuff getting by them for sure. And the fact that they get mangled up during install. I used some ATP brand filters that are alot more robust and keep their shape, but that means they are ALOT harder to bend up and cram in there. And I broken the damn plastic clip that holds the cover on! Luckily it seems like there is a tab designed to retain a fastener, so I used an M6 bolt and snugged on a wing nut I had. I will never, ever, ever buy another Nissan. Many reasons to feel that way.
Grrr. Only in a small frame do I see aim down? You didn’t say which way it goes. 😢
Some foul beast put a zip tie on the filter cover of my xterra. 😡
And dealer wants to charge over $150 for this !!!
Welp, I finally found something to hate about my Nissan Frontier. I love everything else about it but this design is absolutely braindead. I can't get the new ones in there without feeling like I've squashed at least one of them and there's a giant gap inside and it's impossible to confirm this. Honestly, my damn Kia had a better cabin air filter than this and that was the ONLY thing I liked about owning that vehicle.
Clean your car.
Bull $$$$ looks nothing at all like a frontier
That is really a terrible design.
Just reminded me why I’ll never buy a used vehicle. Yuck!
Way to go ding dong why don't you tell people which way the arrow goes for airflow
Thank you for this video
Thank you
