Bro, if you’re ever in utah, shoot me a message and I’ll totally buy you a beer and steak.. seem like a smart dude for reals, and I’m very impressed you’ve learned all this just reading the service manual and then are able to translate it to layman terms for those of us that mean visually Best
Don't give him too much credit, he is still clueless about common knowledge stuff like removing a pilot bearing and he is supper ocd when it comes to doing this stuff which is generally overkill. But yes some of his videos are helpful. Why he wasted all this time on a 2wd baffles me
Ppl p1
@@bertrenolds5 why are u even watching this then lol
@@clicktoedit1759 I didn't really. He has some decent videos and some good knowledge from the shop manual. It's just hilarious he pulled the entire tranny only to not replace the pilot bearing. Can't remember, did he replace the rear main seal because that should got done as well. Again ry makes some decent videos he just blabers on a lot about non important stuff because he is so ocd
@@bertrenolds5 "clueless, overkill, blabber (not blaber) and super (not supper) ocd", a great example when idiots should just shut their mouth and not bother replying. "I didn't really watch it", now that is "just hilarious" now who is clueless? . Removing a pilot bearing on a tranny is NOT common knowledge, only experts or people whom have worked on them before would know that, even so, it is only suggested since the parts are cheap. We don't know that it may have already been done, you certainly DONT! " Again ry makes some decent videos he just blabers on" , Do you tell your wife she looks ok, then beat her?. Please just stay off the internet. Thanks to Ry for the vid as usual, it always great to see people spend their time trying to help others, a shame idiots like this one find the need to chime in for absolutely no reason.
Excellent video. Very informative. Everything worked on the first try. Car is running great now. 2006 altima
Ryan your videos are awesome! Please keep up the good work. My 2005 Xterra needs a water pump and timing chain guide replacement and your video is spot on for guiding me through the process. Thanks buddy
Great video! I appreciate your taking the time to lay it all out. Well presented.
Did this to my 2017 Frontier....and it worked perfectly...thanks...learn something new everyday.
That's awesome. Glad it helped.
Thanks a lot for showing this video!!!!
I disconnected the battery to pick up my seats to give my truck a good cleaning I notice it wasn't running right but then I did what you told me to do and it's one in really good now again a big thanks!!!!!
Thanks for posting this, I appreciate it.
Great video. Like the easy to follow instructions and images for demonstration.
Had xtrail 2003 got problem for quite while and tried this one. Worked well.
Tnx a lot
excellent presentation- one of the best I have seen-Thanks
Your welcome, I'm glad you like it!
Finally! After 2 months of repeating these steps. It finally worked!!! I finally got fed up, and stomped the crap out of the accelerator 5 times. I am driving it now and really don't want to shut it off. LOL. The only thing I really have to say is don't give up!!! Thank you RY for these videos!!! Now I could check this off my to do list during my vacation. LOL. Of course when my wife asked how I fixed it, it's going to be the story of the fish that got away.
Just got done after an hour of failure...as I cleaned the throttle body 2 weeks ago and she was idling about 900 w high idle code. Thank you 1000%!! So glad you made this video. Super accurate and worked on my first try after watching the video. Not sure what I failed to do right the first 8 times, but glad I got it to work. *A few things I did: Stepped away with battery disconnected for an hour. Drove 1 mi to warm up. Followed EVERY step of this process. **Noticed when I held the accelerator down, this time it blinked twice as long before going solid....it really should blink that long if you did it right about 20 sec...oh, and you'll know it worked...it will search slightly and get close to 500 RPM then settle at 625 and sit while you grin ear to ear. Don't give up!!
Well I tried and tried and tried and couldn't get it to work I took it to a buddy of mine who had a $10,000 scanner he hit the idle relearn button went from over 1000 rpms down to 550 or 600 RPMs. like a should have so not sure and I don't buy everyone saying it worked especially if you clean your throttle body because once you mess with that butterfly and throws it out of whack
Awesome, thanks dude. My 02 Xterra idle came down after the first 2 but did the 3rd to complete the cycle. Ry rules!
WOW! cant thank you enough, followed t5he proceedures after cleaning out the throttle body. Amazing!
iboy Tony what issues were you having problem after cleaning your throttle body? Because in mine, after releasing the gas pedal, it goes up to about 1200 rpm then then down. it only does it once every time I lift I foot. I wonder if this relearning procedure will work before tryi,g it. Thanks.
Robert Datario it was erratic..it would rev up and down while idling in park.
@@robertdatario85 yep in my altima even pathfinder 2007 idle on park rpm goes up and down like a hell you have to follow this procedure its really annoying tried many procedure before but this is the best
After cleaning my throttle body the idle was high starting up to 2k rpm. After these procedures were performed it idles at a cool 900rpm. Worked like a charm. Thanks for all your vids man! They are greatly appreciated
You're welcome. Thank YOU for watching. 🤘🏻
900 rpm is still high. Mine idles around 850 rpm and I'm getting the same code.
The repair manual says it should be 625 +/- 50 rpm.
@@ItchyKneeSon it has since leveled out to about 600
You're the only video I saw that actually stated wait until the check engine STOPS flashing ! Fyi for other people !!!!!!THIS IS CRITICLE!!!!!
Thanks for your help mate saved me buying a new ecu or $625 throttle body from what I've read about this problem!
job well done good luck for next video
Awesome , thanks for posting this !
Dude just walked me through a couple thousand dollars of repairs. Saved me a ton of money ! Great step by step instructions so that a novice like me can do the work. Too many people assume you have a certain level of skill or are a mechanic. I am a very reluctant mechanic as I don’t want to do the work/ hate doing it, but can’t afford to pay someone else.
So thanks !
You're welcome, so glad to help!
Hey Ry I’ve been following you for sometime trying to diagnose a high idle problem with my 08 Xterra.
I have replaced cam sensor, crank sensor(after Market parts), the cooling fan clutch(after market) cleaned / replaced the Throttle body, checked for Vacuum leaks, replaced EVAC Canister and valve, checked for codes. I have just diagnosed the high idle problem to the aftermarket fan clutch being out of spec and causing too much engine load, making the ECM think there was a load at idle and compensating for the load.
I purchased a factory Nissan cooling fan clutch today and it solved a three year high idle problem. I had also had problems with the aftermarket sensors not reading the timing marks properly (engine still running poorly / no start condition and same codes showing faulty sensor). Replaced with factory sensors (doing the job twice) to get them working correctly. Let your followers Know that not all parts are the same and some replacement parts can effect performance. Thanks for the video’s.
Right on. Glad you got it working! Sounds like it was a huge pain.
I just cleaned my throttle body on my 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. Didn't disconnect any wires just a few screws from the intake. When I started my suv, the rpm's were high. I stumbled upon your video and followed step-by-step and it seemed to have worked. The check engine did not go off so l will wait until it the engine cools down if not, I will have to take to get that check engine cleared off. Anyway, thanks for the video! It really helped me out.
How'd it end up going?
Brilliant!
Easy to listen too,no annoying moving camera.
Not complicated,at last a normal person😊
Thanks!! Nearly all of my videos are like this. Subscribe and stick around a while. We are always making new stuff.
After trying and testing more than twice finally reset it my throttle rpm issue. thanks for the video save me lots money.
I'm glad!!
You did a hell of a job, and great presentation
Thanks! 🤘🏻👍🏻
It works.. thank you
I have a 2010 chrysler sebring had the same problem even when i replaced the throttle body. i tried everything you just did just now. i hope it works
Thank you so very much you just save me money my 2001 Xterra have that problem I followed your instruction and now my car is back to normal this is a great learning experience.
It only takes one smart person to explain anything and you get it real easy, wow!!!!!
Well if you find a smart person let me know. 🤣
Worked like a charm bro! You ROCK!
Really good explanation. Thanks so much!
You're welcome thanks for watching
Thanks a lot for this video man. I really appreciate it.
Glad it helped. My pleasure.
Great video
I have a 2002 xterra v6, 3.3 supercharged, manual 4X4.
I Had a misfire code on #2 piston with check engine lite on. I put in new ECM, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, distributor, fuel injector (cylinder 2), new fuel pump, 2 cats on pass side, and (4) o2 sensors. NOW it starts runs great until the engine warms up...then it sounds like its sucking air and it won't rev up enough to drive. After it sits for 24 hours...it starts right up drives till it reaches operating temp then will only idle. No check engine like comes on and only old misfire codes won't erase.
Thanks Bill in Delaware
Thanks Ry, you saved me some $$$ as usual
Glad to hear!! 💪🏻👍🏻
Thanks for the vid Ryan, I have to do this for my 2010 Xterra. So much easier to see the procedure visually.
You're welcome! Hope it goes smoothly for ya.
Worked on my t30 x trail after a throttle body clean. Thank you!
You are the man dude, thanks!
No problem! please consider subscribing for more helpful videos!
ry. you are the man. Thanks alot
Thanks my friend, i made it works
Used this video today my xterra was idling around 1.5k after watching it now idles at .625. Great vid

@@Rythecarguy whats this languge, 🤔
Other guides makes this so much more complicated when it's this simple when being explained clearly.
thank you .my car work good
Tks. Tto share video pretty clear...
My check engine light never started blinking. 😢 I have a 2014. I think I need to do the throttle body tho, bc I think it’s running lean.
The first 2 activities did help my issue. So, that was totally cool! Thank you SO much for your videos!
I can't stress enough how important the timing is here, I used a stopwatch tried for 20 minutes got stopwatch over in five minutes, nice video bud
2004 Nissan X-trail 4x4 T30 issue was after I ceaned throttle body and maf, it had high idle and shakes when turning it off, all sorted now
Did you move the throttle control valve at all during cleaning?
Worked perfect
Awesome!
Work nice on my Nissan sentra 06 manual
This is i Did It long back and your procedure worked in my altima like a charm but will do it after 2-3 days for my pathfinder 2007 cause ill do flushing of my radiator and changing nasty oil with filter and flush my power steering reservior then iam ready to go but need 1 day holiday to do this flush with idle relearn hope itll worked in this case
Thanks for the great video .... only thing I would add = you might have to do the Idle Air Volume Learning SEVERAL TIMES before you get it right and/or before the computer accepts the learning. I had to do the procedure SEVEN TIMES before it finally re-learned and operated properly. I think maybe pushing the accelerator FIVE TIMES in FIVE SECONDS was my hangup .. probably doing that too slow, even though I was watching my watch. KEEP TRYING .... PERSISTANCE ..... you'll know it worked when you start it up for 20 seconds in the final step, because the engine will rev up and then start correcting itself downward towards 500 RPM and then settle in around 600 RPM ..... that's when I knew it had finally worked on my 2006 Nissan Frontier 4.0L Nismo Edition. After pulling the intake for spark plugs / coil packs / TB cleaning / MAF cleaning, the idle was 1100-1200 and driving the truck several times didn't correct itself, so I came to CZcams for help ...... Thanks Again !!!
Thank you so much for this, you saved my ass!
Anytime! Ass-saver is now on my resume!! 👍🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thank u it worked!
You're welcome! 😄
Nice video!
Thanks! Be sure to subscribe, I have a lot of nice videos and make more each week. 😎
Thanks Ry guy
👍🏻👍🏻
I was able to do this before but now for some reason it won’t do it maybe because it needs water in the windshield wiper fluid?!
Ry's videos are changing the way I approach working on my 2007 Xterra. I recently had to deal with this issue after cleaning my throttle body. I must have shifted the plate at some point. Read out code P0507. I tried about 12 times to get the relearn to complete using the turn the key and hit the gas dance.
Each time as the procedure ended and I waited through 20 seconds of idling, I thought to myself, "Is anything even happening?" It just idled a touch high and the problem kept happening, the trouble code remained.
Then after a short drive to downtown Austin, I thought, "I'll run through it again real quick." I shut off the cabin lights, removed the stereo faceplate and turned off the AC. I also paid far more attention to the timing. I believe the most critical timing event is the 7 second wait after hitting the gas five times. If you get that right, everything works. Also, the drive was crucial. All the other times I was trying the procedure while the car was still warm(ish) but not directly after driving it. It makes sense to me now that the Diagnostic Mode cannot diagnose an engine that isn't at full operating temp.
In the end, the Idle Relearn took and my idle dropped from 800 to loww 600's.
You can tell when it happened. When you successfully initiate the idle relearn the Xterra slightly revs the engine and then runs down the idle to where the car nearly stalls and then repeats. It becomes apparent that is it running a program and searching for the ideal air flow to get the idle it wants. Then you rev it a couple times and watch it drop to normal steady smooth idle. Still had to clear the code myself. But there is no longer any, "Is anything even happening?"
Taylor Popp, Thank you so much for taking the time to write that out. I did the exact same thing and had the exact same problem. You truly helped me out bud! my Xterra is running right around 600rpms now!
Taylor Popp I'm experiencing a vibration only at idle, I did replace spark plugs so I had to remove my throttle body, just wondering if you/anyone knows if a relearn might be the problem?
Taylor Popp BTW it's a 07 Nissan maxima, only came here cause its a nissan
The Caboose I have the same problem with my 2002 Pathfinder. I'm going to try the relearn process. Did you get yours fixed?
r8ersazfan 1 no I did not, I took it to the shop and had it inspected by my buddy that works there he said he checked it out for about 3 hours and cleaned my throttle body and everything was coming back fine so he moved onto engine dampening and what not so we replaced the broken mounts and still vibration at stop, drive thrus suck, red lights suck pretty annoying when told that everything is right and I have the vibration still, let me know if you get it fixed
Nice tutorial.... Ill check my frontier .....yes am in Canada but DRL is disabled permanently ;) (provincially, Ontario dont require DRL after first registeration hehe)
your a cool dude
Thank you so much
You're most welcome
Thanks took stuff o of now have code air idle valve. I'm gonna try this.
👍🏻
Great video! God bless!
Thank you! You too!
great video!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
@Ry the car guy I gotta tell ya after the first two procedures the idle went from around 900 to 750
I took the whole top of the motor apart and this seem to calm down the idle
@@dico_5.0 glad to hear it!
Service light didn't go off, but now my terra idles stronger. So there is that. Thanks! Was idling less than 800 RPM, now it's close to 900
Steven, if your light did not go off you should run your car for codes. Also, the Xterra should be idling lower than that. Like between 680 and 720
@@Rythecarguy well the code I had was a sensor for the fuel/oxygen (bank 1) I replaced a cracked air hose and after a while everything reset itself. it's actually back down to about 700 and the light is off. it took like 3 or 4 days for that light to go off. now I just have to deal with my tire light randomly going off. the barometric pressure has been weird here lately
Your video is awesome my car wouldn’t start followed you and got her running it need a new air duct rubber again thank you bro
Anytime man, glad to help! 👍🏻💪🏻
HOLY SHIT, fixed my whack ass idle. thank you!!

Worked on my T30 xtrail
Just want to thank you your video helped me 4 times but only worked when its stone cold not hot or warm 😁
2 with my altima once with xterra and one with my brother G37 and today iam replacing throttle body cause of throttle position sensor code p2135 and have to do this😁😁😁 so Thanks a lot
Thanks for the video, however this did not work for my 2006 frontier. I had cleaned my TB and disconnected the sensor. After reinstall, i was idling between 1200-1400 rpm. Tried this procedure like 20 times. Bought a "new" remanufactured TB and new gasket, still no luck at getting the idle to drop. Put my old TB back in with new gasket, tried it again a bunch of times. I bought the consult II software and cable from Concept Z performance ( I have no affiliation with them) It was about 100$ with expedited shipping. Had it in about 2 days, installed the software from Nissan Data Scan (windows 10). Plugged in the cable, connected to the car. Had no issues connecting. Performed the Idle Air clear then learn, took about 2 minutes, and idle dropped to around 700. One thing to note, before being able to do the idle air learn via Consult it makes sure the temperature is between a certain temp. It only took about 5 minutes of idle in 70 degree weather to reach it. It's possible I was outside the limits, from either not warming up enough or maybe too warm. My throttle position was also reading about 5 on my obdII live data scan. I could not get that to go any lower with any of the manual resets. Now after the consult air idle learn its just above 1. Hope this helps someone else who came thinking the ruined their TB.
crzyworm623 dude I’m going tru the same thing I honestly got tired of trying so I’m just going to go to Nissan tomorrow and get it reprogrammed, it’s probably going to cost me $100 to $150 but I don’t care anymore I need my car.
Very Impressive, Aw man, my Catalytic Converters were blown and now I gotta have them replaced. its making a rattling noise and shakes, slow acceleration, replaced the spark plugs and coils. Not looking forward to it but miss driving my X through the mud.
Greatness
🙌🏻
Ry, loving your videos. Have you ever thought of doing a video on how to deep clean your engine? Would be helpful. Thanks man.
Do you mean on the inside of the motor like the cylinder walls and pistons? Or do you mean the outside of the motor like inside the engine compartment?
I was thinking of the outside like a degreaser? Also I have a question Ry. I had water in my transmission from the faulty radiator. So I had the tranny rebuilt like new and by pass the radiator. So if I was to change the radiator would that solve the problem? Is there anything I need to do before installing a new radiator as in flushing the system or changing any of the components? Thanks once again for all your help in videos!
Ry the car guy hi Ry I have this trouble code p2119 and it says the electronic throttle actuator, , when I do the throttle valve closed position learning the action of the valve is it opens and doesn't return to the closed position
We shall see if this works. 06 Xterra SE hit 150000 miles and has suddenly started popping all sorts of codes after no issues prior. Fluids and maintenance religiously done. High RPM code popped after chasing down a cylinder code (taking plenum off and changing spark plugs and coils-#6 was loose and probably the culprit). Cleaned throttle body and had to disconnect electric to get plenum off. Now this code. Driving smooth so I am at a loss. Cannot believe it's all hitting at 150000!
The God may bless you and protect you and ur life thanks bro for this video
Thanks a lot for this video and its one of the best i have seen. I have the same problem with my xtrail 2005 after i cleaned the throttle body. I tried many times to reset the throttle body position and relearn it but i failed, any suggestions please? Thanks again
Good

Ry
I got a question,
I have a 05 xterra and here is whats up.
My wife's car had a check light for bank 1 cam position sensor and leakey valve covers forever. Using your video which was super helpful I did the valve covers changed the plugs and replaced the cam position sensor and VVT sensors on bank 1 and two because they were listed as possible culprits for the check engine light. Keep in mind that besides the smell of burnt oil the car ran great started great. So here is what is up the car is hard to start now with the new sensors... like it used to fire right up, now it has to cycle for like 4-5 seconds before it fires. So I took the intake off again and re-checked everything . I looked at all the plugs but one....the firewall on the drivers coil bolt was acting weird like it would loosen but not release tension. This could be my culprit but I have a hunch that its not. I just put it here because its questionable.
Now , the car runs great it doesn't hesitate or stumble I drove it 100 mile yesterday let it idle for long periods of time and no issues just the long cycle on the start? So my thought is the cam timing is off and the guy before who installed the engine adjusted the timing with his fancy scanner, if that is possible so that the car ran right with the bad sensors?
and now that it has good sensors .....the cam timing is off? I know it is a long shot but that is what i'm thinking.Honestly I am not even sure if a nice scanner like at the place that installed the engine could do that or not?
Or is there a relearn process for the computer that I need to do when replacing vvt or cam position sensor. I did disconnect the throttle body which is how I found this video? God Bless I love your videos, I am pretty mechanically inclined, but I am in uncharted territory right now as this is not my cj or a small block Chevy and it seems like one sensor is messing all of this up. I could take it apart and put the old sensors back, but that just would get my goat if it was still doing this?
Help Please
Thank you! You just saved my husband from a fate worse than death. An upset wife!!!
: - )
Thanks my Micra I want to swap the new throttle body but I cannot program it my stock one I did service working fine but I needed the brand new one to program.
I have an Armada and there is an ECU reset that can also be done in advance of the same procedures you just did...
This works on a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder SE!!
Finally a video that is clear about all this, I have an 03 350z, is this relearn procedure the same for my car?
+blackjacko it might be. I cannot be sure. Im sorry
Hey man, my 08 xterra occasionally idles rough for a second when I'm at a stop light. It feels like it might stall but it never does. Should I try this?
Good stuff - but it would be awesome if you could mention your resources in your description. I have a 2003 Xterra and wish I could find the info. Thanks!
+Casey Kittel absolutely everything I do to my truck in the way of repair is out of the factory service manual. They are expensive but VERY worth it. They are created buy the manufacturer and describe exactly how the car should be worked on.
you can find any vehicle workshop manual on alldatadiy. choose you vehicle, pay the 30 dollar annual subscription. i have alldata for all my vehicles. heres the link

hi Ryan? great video .. clear and to the point. Ws wondering if this procedure would cover most Nissans..... I have an '06 X-Trail that's revving up and down (between 1500 and 1800 according to my OBD2). I tried the procedures nd the 3rd one did do the flashing light then off like in your video. Am going to try the air intake cleaner method tomorrow thru the MassAir. thx... Dave
Yea Dave. Your ride is 06 so these methods should work for you. Let me know!!
I have a 06 Nissan Pathfinder, cleaned throttle body, put back together and it started idling around 1K, then check engine light. I tried doing the 3 procedures to reset and relearn the TB about 20 times. No work. Still idled high. Was about to order a new TB and came home the next day from work and decided to try the whole reset and relearn procedure with the engine stone cold. Started it up at the end of procedure 3 like it said, came back after a few minutes and RPMs were idling at 625 RPM! So if you are not having any success with engine and transmission fully warmed up, try it with it COLD!
thks man, i have the same vehicle and it's not working
Thank you so much, it worked for me, rpm went down، I was scared
So mine idols at very high rpms when first started so I understand the last part. What are the other 2 resets needed for?
Can't thank you enough man. P0507 is history. Any insight for my vdc and slip lights both on? I've tried the slow drive for a distance and it went away then just comes back
You should have unplugged the throttle position sensor to see if it was bad before you started all 3 procedures. If the TPS runs better when unplugged you know your sensor needs to be replaced or adjusted...but great video....Thanks
@Jason that is because when a sensor goes bad the car goes into what is called Limp mode.
With the throttle position sensor for example it no longer goes up and down based on how high the voltage is up until 5v. it instead turns into a on or off function so you can get home with the crap part,
Hey Ry, do you have any recommendations on performance chips for Nissan Xterras? Are they worth the money and do they work like advertised? Thanks
On 2006 Nissan Maxima you have to do all 3 step same time
Thank you for your help I bought my first Nissan and no I go back with my Chevy I have any problems right now because I don't know nothing about Nissan
Glad I could help
I have a 2011 xterra that has a rough idle when defrost or ac is on, normal rpm is 600-750. It drops the rpms when under load and electrical sys gauge drops down a bit when the rpm gets around 500-550 any suggestions or possible ideas? I have tourqe and obd2 can I adjust rpm with the app and obd2 tool
Can a high-end scan tool perform all 3? Thanks!!!
That's works in a 2005 nissan titan?
How's it going guys, I have a 07 Xterra, replaced front right abs sensor abs, vdc, slip all on still. Went to dealer ship said it was the actuator so I replaced that with a salvage one. Hooked it all up blead the breaks, any special way to reset the system or just use the grounding method?
Question 2005 nissan xterra no acceleration in drive completely dead only in park or neutral what do you suggest
My idle seems fine but after swapping coil 1 to coil 2 to diagnose and fixing the putting new coil I'm getting p2138, dont think this would fix that? Throttle body was off but didn't disconnect it only disconnected battery a couple times
If my Idle was Fluctuating up and down and I replaced the Idle control Valve it’s still fluctuating will this possibly be the problem? Before I replace the ECM.
If you are having issues it is because Ry failed to hold the gas pedal after the 7 seconds in the idle air volume learning process part of this video. He waited until the light stopped blinking. Hope this helps.
+John Lala worked for me...
Ry the car guy the instructions are correct as you read it, but the video shows differently on that step. It may be the reason it didn't work for you in the video.
Great video overall, as are all your videos. Just letting you know some feedback.
+John Lala I see, thanks!
