    I would like to see how you use your sloper on a commercial pattern to get the fit right. I’m still learning how to make a correct sloper. That would be very helpful tutorial

      I have had a few mention slopers and I think I need to dedicate some time to them. I have loved them for flat pattern design but they also can help short cut some alterations with commercial pattern (sometimes).

    I have found fabric at Joann's is better than Hobby Lobby. They also have better selections. Have you found this? I have a man's shirt I am working on which was my first. Love your shows.

    • @stacyrobbins
      @stacyrobbins  Před 7 měsíci

      JoAnn's carries a range of fabric qualities from many textile companies. Most are wonderful! Their selection (at least in my area) is so good. The men's shirting selection at JoAnn's is great. Hobby Lobby has most of its fabrics made for them. Some of the fabrics appear to be from the same mills but branded differently. I was a fabric buyer over 25 years ago for a small fabric store and learned so much! I wish I was closer to JoAnn's. It is about a 40 min drive but Hobby Lobby is about 6 minutes away. I would love to know how the shirt is going. I love to sew a button-down!

    Did you dress your kids in matching clothes when they were young? I can just hear "Oh moooooooom ... that is soooooo dorky." I only have one kid and he is all grown. He has pretty good sewing skills and makes some of his own clothes. I shared your channel so if you see more goofy humor in the comments, it is probably him. My plans for the year? I will be making a couple of shirts for myself and my son. I will also be making things for my wife and my daughter-in-law. Question on bargain fabrics - do you ever buy fabrics from Wal-Mart? They have precut remnants of fabric. I have bought a few of them. We want to see a video of installing the projector. I can just see your husband having to move the thing several times 🙂 I am looking forward to your videos this year.

    • @stacyrobbins
      @stacyrobbins  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Well... I did get away with a few matching outfits when they were tiny. It didn't last long. My progeny are independent and have always known exactly what they wanted to wear and express themselves. I love that your own son seems to have gotten the creative and punny genes from you! I have ordered fabric from Walmart and was happy with what I got. I need to go in and check out what is in the store. Once we recover from taking down all the Christmas decor we may start figuring out the projector location. I am trying to be responsible and patient. 😅

    I just purchased that same sweater knit (different color) on sale at JoAnn's so I'm really looking forward to seeing what you make from it. Really enjoying and learning a lot from your videos...and plans for upcoming ones. You're inspiring me! Looking forwards to seeing more videos on slopers and pattern adjustments too. This year I want to tackle a oxford-style shirt, with button placket, cuff, collar the whole bit. Would love a video on those sometime!

      I am so happy we get to sew together! Slopers are coming up quite a bit in the comments and I have started outlining the first video. A traditional button-down is one of my favorite projects. I have a few short sleeved button front shirt videos but I need to make a good Oxford. Now to hunt down the perfect pattern and fabric!

    Exciting that you are going to try out projecting PDF patterns! I want to try it but I don't have a hubby that enjoys projects so I would need to find a system that I could install myself - maybe a tabletop system? Anyway, I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the whole process of projecting patterns. So many beautiful garments to come in the future out of your sewing studio!

      I am very excited to work on the projector and figure out a system that works in my room and for my creative style. I started to get a weighted tripod and I still might. I think it may be a process to get the final setup. As always I have more ideas than time! Here is to a new year full of creativity!

    Hi Stacy, you mentioned a sloper. I have heard that term so many times but I don’t actually know what it is. The videos I’ve watched on creating a sloper seem to indicated it’s like a stock pattern that fits your own body. But I don’t know how you would use a sloper when paired with a pattern - or why you’d use the sloper with a pattern. That makes me think I’ve got the whole purpose of a sloper wrong.

    • @stacyrobbins
      @stacyrobbins  Před 7 měsíci +1

      A few have mentioned that they would like more sloper info. So it is defiantly going into the video list. The main way I have always used them is for flat pattern design. BUT if you have a custom-fitted sloper there are times when you can use them to shortcut alterations on a commercial pattern. I am so excited to work on this! Thanks so much for commenting and stopping by.

    Vogue, 9330 has caught my attention every time I see it. those drawings look fabulous. However, someone made it and did a review on it and it had nothing to do with their sewing abilities but that was probably the most unattractive pattern I've seen on somebody. Ha ha so I'll wait until someone else makes that one before I add it to the stash.😂

    • @stacyrobbins
      @stacyrobbins  Před 7 měsíci

      YES! This is what is so wonderful about seeing it on real people. Let someone else be the pattern tester! If it looks not great on the model it surely won't on a normal human body. Now I am more curious about working with that pattern. 🤔

      @@stacyrobbins well, I will look forward to seeing how it comes out for you. Ha ha. The neck was huge and it didn't have any shape. Maybe if a heavier sturdier knit had been used? It definitely needs a fabric that will have structure. There are no sewing failures just lessons.😂🥰
