- It's fair to say all petrolheads have their dream car, something seemingly unobtainable that you aspire to own and for many it's the one dating back from a childhood memory or poster on your bedroom wall.
In this video we meet up with SCD team member Jonty and delve into his deep routed passion for all things Ferrari and in particular the legendary F40.
With the rarity of F40s it's a privilege to be up close and personal with one, let alone capturing the excitement of the first drive in a dream car. Whoever said don't meet your heroes?
We hope this video portrays the passion and connection that petrolheads have for certain cars. Keep dreaming!

Hmmm...not sure how you can say that. It's functional and minimal, but it looks a bit "plastic and fibreglass" with not many beautiful compound curves or styling cues.
not so sure about that the front nose and fender along with rear pillars are exquisite to me.
It's a feeling, don't use your common sense. It's all about driving, with technology that will never be allowed again. It's not esthetics, it's brute.
Real720 beauty is in the eye of the beholder ;-)
when you're plus 40 yrs old, you'll love it, when you're younger, then yes it's an old car.
But ofcourse there are many good looking Ferrari's from the 60s

I drove an F430 several months back and that was my teen idol! That really is a beautiful video and childhood dream come true. Made me feel like a kid watching this. Ferrari F40 is a legend.

I've watched many F40 clips on youtube, but this clip is the best I've seen so far, the sheer joy you experienced makes it all worth while, congratulations to you and your drive, furthermore 'hats off' to the owner for handing you the keys. Well Done!

I was born in 97 and even though the F40 isn't really my generation, I've always been obsessed with it. My favourite memories were using it in the racing games in the arcades. I've just always been obsessed with Ferraris in general. Loved this video, he just turned right into a kid again, except he could actually drive it haha. If someone could make it so I could at least sit in an F40 I'd love you forever

The F40 is easily the most beautiful car EVER to come from any automaker, in any era. It's just...bruh. When he started that sumbitch up, I almost lost my mind, lmao. The F40 is what dreams are made of.
I think that's the best definition of whether you're a proper petrolhead ... whether you'd have that kind of giddy excitement at seeing up close and/or driving your dream car. It's not Clarkson's nonsense about whether you've had an Alfa, or whether you drive manual or automatic, it's about how you feel about cars. I for one would have the same excitement getting to drive an F40.

The F40 revolutionized cars both sizes of the pond. No other car has created so many offshoots from it's technology and design.

I had the die cast Burago F40 and Duke VHS videos (used to always rewind them over and again at the parts where the F40 came on boost and fried it's P-Zeroes lol) Watched every F40 vid on the net, even when a dial up modem would take 20 minutes to download a low res short clip, it just has that kind of effect on you....
It's simply impossible not to be moved by the venerable F40.....long live the crackles, pops and flames! Cheers from Downunder!

That is the best video on hole CZcams. men not only your dream came true also mine. it was like I was sitting in the car. your reaction is genuine. The F40 and the 288 GTO are my dreamcars. I only saw twice in my life a real F40 and that was a thrill by itself. I'm a little bit jealous, but I'm glad your dream came true.

Well I have watched thousands of youtube auto related videos (much to my wife's chagrin) and am the new owner of a problematic 308 (just stranded on the highway today after a $5,600 service) and must say that this is THE MOST PASSIONATE, MOST SINCERE, video that I have ever seen on a true car enthusiast's post. You are an absolute natural and should have your own channel/show. Your genuine interest and dedication and appreciation came through loud and clear. This video was exemplary!
My hat is also off to the generous F40 owner who recognized your genuine nature and invited you to drive this iconic Ferrari.

Great video, I feel so represented because I dream to see one in person and even to be able to drive it. Just like you I felt I love with the F40 since I was a kid, I´m crazy about the car.
Last week I was able to meet my other hero, the F14 Tomcat, I was as happy as you with the F40 in this video.
I hope someday I will see F40 that it´s in my city, there´s only one and rarely driven.
The only difference between myself and this man is he got to drive the F40 in the flesh. Well done. So happy for him.

Bloody good on you. I genuinely smiled, no, beamed for you.....the moment the keys were handed over, suddenly a stunned 7 year old was sitting in the drivers seat. What an absolute top top notch gent the owner was for noticing the importance of the occasion and allowing him to drive it. Wow! I'm still smiling for you......a lot greener than before. My dream car. It's the 22nd of December and I'm still stressing about how I'm getting my daughters Xmas presents ( PTSD & a poorly better half) so I'll never even get to sit in one, let alone drive....but this was a wonderful 'close enough'. Thank you so much for sharing........did I mention I'm green with envy?
When visiting Japan I met two hero cars of mine at a small dealership near Yokohama, a Ferrari F40 and a Lamborhini Countach. The owner of the dealership was kind enough to let me take a look of the cars, knowing that this was a special moment for anybody into cars. I did not get to sit in the cars (neither did I ask) but could tell the F40 was the better of the two in terms of driving position and visibility. The F40 definately stans up to being met by anybody who likes them. Legendary car.
Such a nostalgic and enjoyable video. Took me back to the days of unboxing a classic Porsche 911 from Burago models at 7 year old. Loved cars ever since, especially the F40!
Great vid. I still have that same Bburago F40 model. That car and Ferrari have captured my imagination ever since. The bit where you put the rear engine cover up after the 1/18 was great. Must have been amazing!

I'll never forget the first time I drove one. I'd had opportunities before but I always said when I get behind the wheel of one I'm buying it. It's now in the garage.

Had that same model when I was around that same age! Dream car and after doing research on the Ferrari F40 still the best production street race car in my opinion... nothing come close to how perfect this machine is!

Really fun Video! So glad the owner let you take it for a spin! What an experience! Amazing car. There was one in the shop while our 308 was being worked on. That engine bay is just art. Those massive wheels right there... And all the carbon everywhere. Feels like the only thing in common with the 308 is the steering wheel and the instrument binnacle. So you bought a 355? Love those. Sound amazing and look like a car you can live with. Thanks for sharing! Franny

From what I've read, the F355 is more expensive to run than an F40. Both of which though, are my two favorite Fezzas.
Normal servicing about the same, but the fuel tank (rubber cells) need to be changed every 10 years at a cost of about £12,000. Thanks for watching!

Loved this video. I would have been exactly the same. Got to sit in one at Horsham Piazza Italia event a couple of years back thanks to a generous owner. To be taken for a drive would have been amazing. To be given a drive, well that's beyond special. Still got Car Magazine from the 80s with this and the white 959 on the cover - F40 everyday of the week.
