Super grateful for this Alexi. Its very rare to get a good look at the process without assisting and you have done it so wonderfully, and graciously. You are a class act.
Hi Alexi. Just wanted to tell you that your videos are so appreciated. You're at the top of your field and yet you're sharing with the world all this information and education. Your delivery is so accessible, humourous, intelligent, concise. There is nothing pretentious or patronizing about your delivery. You're obviously a generous and beautiful spirit. Thank you! ;-)
OMG Alexi you are the best and your are so humble and open. Assisting you was the best thing that ever happen to me since I been doing photography.
Absolutely informative, Thanks Alexi, for such great information!!
Fantastic no BS communicator - really enjoyed this one
Thanks for taking the time to share these videos. They are inspiring and extremely helpful. Looking forward to the next :)
I have to say, these video tutorials, just found them, are spot on. I started shooting late 80's, went through Paris/Milan/London and then to NYC. EVERYTHING he's mentions is oh so true...including you're not curing cancer and be polite. I was lucky to get to know Mario when I lived in Paris...how the doors would fly open going to Le Bain Douche...he was a character and so nice. Those years pre digital were very special, you really had to work at your craft...take the time to think it through...now it all comes so quickly. Alexi has great camera presence and communicates with such a wonderful authenticity....the video editing is fun!
Thank you so much for sharing these videos. As a struggling/up-and-coming(hopefully) fashion photographer, hearing your insights and your warm, open demeanor are an awesome departure from many of the personalities in this industry! Keep up the amazing work.
Thanks for sharing Alexi. I really liked the fact that you asked everyone to be respectful to each other and to take care of the model and also to be responsible with your retouching. It's little details like those that make a huge difference. I learned a lot from your video. Respect.
Loved this tutorial. Very detailed and very interesting. "Respect viewers intelligence" is something that every photographer should learn.
Thank you for sharing it! Looking forward to seeing more videos!
This was really really good! Thank you, so informative, humble and smart. Feeling inspired to continue to create and get better.
Love this!! Will be using a lot these tips on my future shoots, thanks for the insight Alexi!

RESPONCES AND ADVICE!!
Thanks a lot :) so inspiring...
Would love to watch a video of you on set how you start the shoot. Would be helpful to know what you usually do as soon as you arrive on set, how long you generally spend chatting to client, team etc and how quickly you dive into the shoot. Please do a come join me on my shoot type of video to show us the reality of a shoot. Its helpful especially for those who dont have prior assisting experience and wants to dive into a full time photography role instead :) please also include the lighting setup and you testing out the lighting
This is incredible, even though I don't do fashion or studio photography the tips and your sort of philosophy on how to do a shoot really connect with how I do my travel adventure/portrait shots! One question I do have though is what the usual lenses are you use?? I've been reading up on your work and with how unique the look of your pictures it sort of got me curious as to what lenses you usually use, hope it's alright of me to ask that :)
+Alexi Lubomirski Ahh alrigh thank you! and what do you use on your Canon camera's? I think I saw a 35mm? and a 5Ds? :)
Got my first big gigs last year as freelance photographer to shoot for a big company for commercial usage.
Spent like 5-6 hours to form my team from trusted friend. Since there's no model agencies in a small town where I'm currently live. I have to go out to any coffee shops or hipsters restaurant to find the right look from what the Art Director looking for.
When the Art Director and Producer arrive at the airport.
I realize I'm gonna be multi-task guy beside just become a photographer during the photoshoot.
Studio for a simple clean shot and majority are outdoor, that's where the main image will be use.
Very challenging and quite nervous for the last shot because I need the models and make-up artist to be done before the sun goes down to get the dramatic saturated sky.
At the end all went well.... and the art director got tons of image for him to select.
the part about if models are scared of whatever; the opposite of what model reality shows are into lol
@Alexi Love your photography. I'm so happy to be able to watch someone who is a professional photographer and talk about it to public. My question - how much time do you spend editing one outfit? And how many shoots you take of one? I know you should stop when you know you have it but what is your number on average of frames until you know you done?
Gosh, you are beautiful ... I’m blushing. Awesome photographer. Thanks for the video
Great tips! Thanks! :)
Amazing video, loved every aspect you covered.Just one question, when can we see the photos from the shoot ?
would be great if you could show how do you make color when editing... maybe some basic things... if you do it by yourself +)
I'm so ashamed to say I came here out of curiosity after Meghan and Harry's wedding. Well, you've sold me man, I love capturing spontaneous family moments, I'm going to give this a real try with more than my phone 😂😂😂 New sub 👍👍
Pięknie dziękuje za to wideo. Pozdrowienia z Polski i czekam na kolejne produkcje.
Dzięki! That gave me more courage
Hi, thanks for this useful information, can you upload video tutorials showing how lighting schemes are organized on location?
Great stuff Alexi. Probably more a fan of you now than I am of Mario despite of my peruvian blood trying to tell me otherwise :P
Sold... Mario who?
A great tutorial! Thank you.

I like to watch you talk ... very alive .. cute !
and positive ...
Hello again. I just thought of a question! Please do a video on editing. It's so hard for me, it kills me, etc etc. I takes me way too long. You touched on it in this video and that was great. But please elaborate! For instance, how many images do you submit for a story? Eg 6 page story, but any examples will do. How much Photoshopping do you do before the images are selected by the magazine? Any and all info on the editing process would be amazing. I love shooting, it's the editing!!!! Thank you!
Here we got somebody who knows what he's talking about!!!
No 50mm!?
Thank you for the tutorial
We hope to see more of your tips
Greetings from texas!!!
How long do you retouch for example one headshot and one full body picture?
Need a GIF video for 8:05 haha.
Hi Alexi! :) My question is: how do you work with a model on set. I think video about that would be great idea. How do you get different emotions? What do you tell to a model? Do you tell much? Do you have all poses in mind before session or just let the model pose? 5 minutes snap from that behind a scenes would be great and very helpful. Greetings from Poland :)
You always have to have a story board on set! Poses, hair and makeup, outfits and all props. In addition, you have to have a Creative Director on set to guide the model and make sure the entire look is perfect and in congruence with the concept.
Hey Alexi! Thank you for sharing your honest (and fun) videos of information. You had mentioned editing/retouching. Do you do your own or do you hire it out? Much appreciated!
Ah okay. So then, would you give them any direction of what the end product should look like so that they don't (as you say) overdo the post-work? I guess because I do my own work, I experiment with the images in post from colour to different moods of temperatures to black & white and different grades of that - until I'm satisfied with the end result. To give that side of the creative is letting go of that part of the "fun" of the finalizing the image. But as you put it, as well, knowing what the client/magazine and your vision will probably help nail the finalized images, eh? (www.mddphotography.com) Thanks so much for your response!
What a great way to keep your creative vision and pass on the pertinent notes! And in the end, this makes it a great collaboration with the editors. Again, much appreciate the time you've taken to answer! The latest pics of Charlize are sensational! I know I can take away a lot of great points and apply them into any of the genres that I tend to shoot (ie., weddings, engagement sessions, maternity, portraits). If ever you're in town (Toronto, ON, Canada), I would love to watch you in action! :D
ENGLISH MAN IN NEW YORK:)
Can you do an episode on Beni Rosser
your website feature videos that don't exist anymore on youtube.
Pass me the knife and the fork please.
Thank you for making this video, I recently hit a brick wall with creativity but this has really helped me push past the mental block. I am lucky enough to be a photographer and earn a living from it, thank you again. My work can be seen here - alexhutchinsonphotography.com/ (updating it this week) :)
Did you not get challenged by the NYPD even once?
And when someone comes to you with what they want, when do you tell them the thousands of dollars you charge for the cost of the shoot? What program do you use to write your client contracts? Do you charge more money if third party companies have usage rights to your images? my question is where and how do you make the money. Thats more important then the basics you covered in this video. So many "how to videos" with 0 important info. which is contracts, making money. The legalities through out the contracts. Where are those videos at from the guys on your level?
Do you only ever work with female models? Maybe if you are going to advise treating them with respect, avoid constantly referring to them as "the girl"!
