  • Brake upgrades are very important when it comes to racing. As e46 owners know, there aren't a lot of options to be found with out spending $3-4K+. Today we experiment and see if a set of used four piston Brembos from a new BMW 440 will be compatible with the e46 set up.

I was wondering if the break pads end up touching the rotors or have any issues but also I would like to see an year update on what its been like running this set up for about a year now. Love the work you’ve been putting out, 👌👌

      Mine was a direct bolt up. I’ve heard a few others say the pads touch and they have to trim them. Like 1/8” or so. Even with the pad modification, it’s absolutely worth it! When I get the race car in a position to make more videos I’ll do a follow up.

  • @VALCompares

    Looks great! I don't know if I should go with 330i EBC discs / Yellowstuff pads, or your 440i setup, or maybe even the E9X 335i caliper / M3 CSL discs setup. The price difference between the EBC setup and the E9X 335i caliper / M3 CSL disc setup is not that big. The 440i caliper setup is a bit more expensive in my country unfortunately. I want the looks, but I also want the stopping power. now I can't decide.

I know you’d need bigger discs (rotors) which is a pain in the arse as you have to change the hub but would the callipers bolt straight up like the fronts did?

    The rear you also installed 440I calipers correct? What rotor set up did you use in the rear?
    Last question. This will work for a 99 328I?

    • @TenzaMotorsports
      @TenzaMotorsports  Před 3 lety

      E46 M3 competition front rotors. Rear I used stock rotor size. The rear isn’t really worth messing with. The calipers from the 440 were the same size and some e46s, the rears didn’t fit for some reason. I wouldn’t be able to say if your 328 would be compatible. I know my 330 was. And I think they are the same, in the front at least.

  • @thbigshot101
    @thbigshot101 Před 3 lety +1

    Hey man superb video, but I was wondering what other brake rotors I can use instead of the csl rotors as Im not a big fan of the cross drilled and would much prefer a blank oem looking rotor. Did you find any other bmw rotor that fits without any modification onto the hub of the 330ci. I also have a 330ci and am looking into this upgrade but I wanted to know if I could maybe even use the 440i rotor on the 330ci.
    Edit: Also I was wondering how the pads contact the surface of the rotor and if you have gotten any rings from the pad not fully contacting the surface of the rotor. And would it be possible to keep my stock 330ci rotors and just upgrade to the caliper or will I need to also upgrade to bigger rotors? Thanks in advance I really appreciate it and keep up the amazing work.

    • @TenzaMotorsports
      @TenzaMotorsports  Před 3 lety +1

      This is the only combination that will work. They have to be csl/competition e46 rotors. The drilled rotors I used are oem bmw. I only found two options. Oem and the two piece ECS tuning drilled and slotted. If you upgrade to bigger brakes, you need to do bigger rotors.

  • @sethgoulet4410
    @sethgoulet4410 Před 4 lety +2

    Few questions if you're able to answer. Forgive me if I didn't find your review video already in passing, but how did the brakes feel after doing this swap? Did the change in volume with 4 pistons to move vs the original single piston change the pedal feel or braking distance? Did you feel there was a significant change in brake bias as though you may have made your rear's less effective in stopping the car? And finally, did you already have the whole stainless conversion and other upgrades done too before the swap?
    I'm certainly interested in this as I have an X3 I drive (only after my 2001 330ci outweighed cost/benefit.... had just over 260k miles on it so it did great service). I've found they shared the same caliper/rotor as the 330ci did for e46 years and I often pull a small trailer with it with a motorcycle in it. I've always considered an upgrade due to my added weight towing vs just looks or performance, as the X3 I have is a grocery-getter and not supposed to be a fast car... but I love the idea of stopping more efficiently with the added weight and updated tech for calipers. Look forward to hopefully getting a response!

    • @TenzaMotorsports
      @TenzaMotorsports  Před 4 lety

      The car feels very normal. Without hard breaking you’d never be able to tell the difference. Very linear. Doesn’t effect the bias from what I can tell. I haven’t been on a track yet so I can’t really comment on that yet. No other upgrades have been done. Stock lines and everything
