    If anyone is looking for a cheaper/less rare alternative, the F30 335/340i brakes bolt right up to the e46. I believe they’re 4 piston fronts and 2 piston rears. These 6 pots are holy grails in terms of bmw calipers but they’re hard to come by and usually people want a lot of money for them. The F30 brakes are a more common and affordable alternative, but Salute to evan for finding the holy grails for a great price too

    Nice work.
    I just wanted to make a comment on the flanged Allen screws on the rotors. The sole purpose of those screws is to hold the rotor plumb while you install the calipers. This is no different than installing a wheel nut on a stud and using it to push the rotor up snug with the hub. Telling people to always buy new ones is way overkill. There are no mechanical forces on those screws during vehicle operation. In fact, I only hand tighten them on my cars. The screw can’t come loose because the wheel prevents it from coming out.

    Been trying to find a pair of those front calipers for a while but certainly not from ECS Tuning. One of the cars those calipers come on is the Mini Cooper GP. The front rotors are 330mm X 25mm. I believe those are the same on the 135 with the performance package.

    • @maxbradley9534

    • @matthewnicholas6365
      @matthewnicholas6365 Před rokem

      @imestia7911 the oem brakes are more than able to stop the car. Bigger brakes only ever become a benefit when you over heat the standard sized brakes. You will only ever overheat brakes in a hard track session when you're constantly hitting them hard before they've have a chance too cool from the last time. You will not overheat brakes on the road.
      Scientific fact- bigger brakes don't stop you quicker. Better tyres will.

    • @christopherramirez6086
      @christopherramirez6086 Před rokem

      If you’re going 150mph and you want to stop fast these will stop a lot lot better. As in if you’re street racing, also in general they will be less prone to warping as they won’t get as hot. And if done well they will stop better just because of the caliper change in tech. He went from a floating caliper to a fixed. It’s better in every way.

      @matthewnicholas6365 Před rokem

      @christopherramirez6086 if you're doing 150mph on the street you need to be banged up. If you're doing 150mph racing and need to stop urgently, I think the penalty should be harsher.

    will these calipers fit on stock e46 m3 rotors?

    • @odie0815
      @odie0815 Před rokem +1

      depends on the adapter you'll be using
      the calippers are originally build to be used with 336mm Rotors - so 325 should be possible - but my be a little bit tight close to the hub
      I ran the fronts with 345mm Rotors form the E46 M3 competition (or CSL) and standard E46 M3 rear rotors (since the competition or the CSL have the same)
      I had a 328i (EU-Model) therefore i had no problem fitting the rears wiothout modification to the carrier, the Front needed a different bracket -what i had a Tuning shop maschine for me according my specs.
      also you need to shave off 1mm from the brake pads if you try to use the 345x28mm CSL rotors or 325x28mm ///M3 rotors since the calipper is originally built for a 336x26mm Rotor
      Edit: but seeing the video - the diameter should be ok with the adapter Evan used - for the width you need to do the shaving of the pads - voila
      if you want to run the 345x28mm Rotory you can get away using the original 135 NBrackets - although you would need to shim it
      what was little to shady for me - thats the reason why i had fitting brackets made for me

      @thbigshot101 Před rokem

      @@odie0815 Fantastic info, so I can assume you tried to run the 135i pads with m3 rotors, standard or csl as both are 28mm thick, and it didnt work at all? or was really tight?

    • @odie0815
      @odie0815 Před rokem +1

      @@thbigshot101 unfortunately - without shaving off 1mm per pad it will not fit
      I had a machine shop in my area that deals mainly in farming stuff mill off 1mm per pad - worked wonderfully
      I ran the 135i OEM pads for several years in combination with the CSL rotors
      Generally I was very very happy with that combination!!
      I only went back to the 330i brakes because the 17" Styling 44 I was running during winter time were too much of a tight fit that the lack of ventilation was killing the rotors.
      the OEM 325x28mm M3 rotors might be OK
      but would not recommend running the 345x28mm rotors with 17" wheels
