Truck dealer for 30 years and sold thousands of trucks. Bought a 2022 4x4 crew a couple of weeks ago. Just did a 350 mile round trip to Vegas today pulling a loaded 18' trailer home. After years of selling trucks not easily impressed but this little engine is unbelievable. Cant believe the power and mileage.
    LOVE THIS TRUCK!

Hi all- great to see this video. Bought my 2016 F150 crew cab 2.7 XLT in January 2017 brand new. 280,000 miles later, I can confidently say this 2.7 engine is incredible. Full synthetic oil change every month or so, (6,000 miles). Everything is original besides 2 new AC compressors, 2 years apart. Oil drain pan plug is plastic junk. Might want to consider changing oil drain pan, which is what I did after a leak/scare at 150,000 miles to bypass the plastic drain plug that easily cracks.
Still driving pretty damn close to the day I got her.
    Will keep everyone posted :)
    Safe travels all

    Hello Myks,
as a pro mechanic working in DC here is my thoughts,
I originally wasn’t very familiar with the ecoboosts and do at first I just totally ignored them. I already had a 5.0 Mustang so when I started shopping f150s I figured I’d go for the same in the truck. However, inventory issues got me started on looking into the ecoboosts. After taking time to learn about them I ended up being impressed by the 2.7. It’s actually a very heavily built motor. Four bolt mains, compacted graphite iron block (afaik the only production gasoline engine to use it), an aluminum ladder frame block skirt, forged everything (pistons, con rods, crank, and cams) semi-open engine deck as opposed to the open deck 5.0 and 3.5 ecoboost, monolithic head and exhaust manifold and is just physically more compact (which should inherently add strength) with a very high lubricant capacity per displacement (2.22 qts per liter of displacement in a shorter block design vs 1.6 qts per liter in the 5.0, and 1.7 qts per liter in the 3.5 [2.24 qts per liter in the 6.7 powerstroke] ) and overall, much fewer moving parts than the 5.0 V8. In the Gen 2 2018 and up, the engine has port injection to reduce intake valve, spark plug and injector fouling, electronic wastegates as opposed to mechanical, hollow cam shafts which reduce rotating mass, improved throttle response, efficiency, and theoretically put less strain on the timing chain, increasing service life. They also seem stupidly easy to maintain, adopting the top cartridge oil filter, a toolless oil pan plug (similar to the 5.0), easy access valve covers, and just being very compact in the engine compartment so plenty of room to reach around in there. Arguably it should probably be the base engine in the F-250, as it's towing fuel economy is roughly equal, or sometimes better than the 5.0 for the same load, and it just utterly destroys the 5.0 in a truck application with its broad torque curve (the 5.0, is quite peaky) As all direct injection engines go, and even moreso with these as it's forced induction with forged pistons, they do experience a fair amount of crank case intrusion from blow by, increasing fuel dilution of the engine oil. So I’m gonna be changing the oil at around 6500 miles since these days I mainly drive short distances which don't necessarily allow proper warm up of the pistons, so seals will not get an opportunity to optimize. This situation is true for the 5.0 and 3.5 eco as well. Physically, it is the heaviest built engine available for the F-150, betraying the idea that smaller displacement = weaker. The only technical service bulletins that crop up with the2018+ 2.7 are limited lot supply and manufacturing defects, not design issues. So after a lot of studying I may daresay this is the best engine Ford has created in over 40 years. Maybe that's why it's the basis for most of their new product lineup. It's like the 289, they put it in everything.
If this engine will last up to 500k if its maintained properly .

I did extensive research before I opted for the 2.7. As impressed as I was, I still had to talk myself out of getting a V8. I was a guinea pig too, because I bought the first year (2015) of the "new generation" F150's as well as the brand new 2.7L Ecoboost. I'm glad I did. 180K miles and not one mechanical failure yet, no warranty repairs, nothing. But I'll always miss that "roaring V8" sound. I have the Corsa Ford Performance Catback Exhaust system, so it does sound pretty bad ass.

Great video. Makes me happy to see a high mileage 2016. I also have a 2016 2.7 4X4 Screw with 36 gallon fuel tank. I just turned 100K miles and she still drives strong. I typically get between 21-23 mpg city/hwy depending upon air conditioner use. I've used Ford Quicklane every 5-7K miles for a full synthetic oil change and ALL fluids are changed every 50K miles. Top Tier 87 octane as well. Blackstone Labs oil analysis done every 20K miles shows no fuel contamination and very little metal wear. I believe that if you do proper PM over the life of the truck, you'll see this truck traveling well over 3-400K miles. I've spent approx. $6000 in PM with tires, oil changes, fluid flushes, plugs, filters, and had the serpentine belt replaced last week for $94.00 at the Quicklane as well.

The 2.7 hauls no problem! We have a 2019 2.7 almost 90,000 kms and when the dodge 2500 broke down we thought the towing capacity was 13,000 lbs, and hooked the trailer and mini excavator onto the 2.7 and it hauled no problem. We realized after that we were hauling over with that truck for 3 days, but it never had any issues! Honestly it hauled just as good or better then the 2500 did, and I've never had a 3.5 ecoboost but it probably hauls even better

Truck didnt sway, handled better and got rid of the rear axle hop/jump. I put the front on, went up 1.75" and looks awesome however rides like a tank now....super rough. I think these were valved for the heavier 5.0 but better than wrecking the struts with spacer lifts. I will be getting softer riding tires to help out

180K original miles on my 2015 Ford F150 2.7L FX4 and not one mechanical failure yet, knock on wood! Woohoo! I bought it brand new in 2016, even later paid THOUSANDS of dollars extra for the super duper Ford Protect Extended Warranty which carried me through 140K miles and still wasn't able to recoup one dime! Grrr! lol! And there's nobody with a bigger lead foot than mine! lol! Ecoboosts are FUN to drive! I've run AMSOIL Signature Series 5W30 almost from the beginning. The only issues I have with my awesome truck is a minor but unappealing oil leak around oil pan which has that crappy plastic oil drain plug, but I think the oil is coming down from the turbo's. It doesn't leak enough to where I need to add oil between 15K mile oil changes, and it doesn't leak onto the ground. The removeable "skid plate" thingy gets oil soaked over time. I've had to pressure wash it twice now. Not too big of a deal yet, in my opinion. I'm also not happy with the gas mileage, but then again I drive like an idiot, so.... pfft! lol! I'm also currently running heavy 33's (Kendal Klever RT's) with a leveling kit and 1-1/2" wheel spacers, so I'm lucky to get 16 MPG's. But, oh well. I love my truck! One more payment and it's mine. I plan on driving it until the wheels fall off. I'll buy a brand new engine if necessary before I'll buy another new truck.
