    "802 Farmers" youtube channel had the same thing happen to this tractor as well. The tractor still drove fine, but they lost all hydraulics. It turned out that a bunch of bolts on the clutch broke off. It sucked, because that clutch had barely any hours on it, before this happened.

    Glad you found the problem. Hopefully you can find parts and the repair won't be too difficult!

      Thanks! Fortunately I know a few guys who can split it and fix it. It helps that I'm not without a tractor to use!

    I changed the PP and counter shaft on my 706 for the same reasons years ago. Got my shaft from a salvage and had a clutch shop rebuild the PP.

      I don't think this will be too bad, I just don't have the facility or equipment to split a tractor this size myself.

    Good to see you figured out the problem. I think that is a common problem with IH, the hardest is splitting, the rest isn't so bad. Good luck!👍

      Thanks! That's what I've been reading. I don't think it will be too bad.

    Oh my Mr Pete 😳😳😳 Well first off, let me say I admire your grit and shop surroundings while diagnosing the issue!! Hats off to the pasture workshop, that's right up my alley!! 😁😁 Oh my though on what you found🧐😢 I sure hope the parts are available and this won't be a huge downfall of the 1486!! But I will be tuned in, with pencil in hand as the repair insues, and the split happens! Best wishes my friend on a easy fix and things going well! Thank you for the update my friend, hope everything else is going ok!! 😁👍🙏

      Thank you Nelson. I don't have the equipment to split a tractor this size myself, but I know people. I don't think it's going to be too bad.

      @@farmerpete I can understand that sir! I can imagine that's quite the task to split!! Hoping all goes well sir, always Mr Pete!! 👍😁

    Glad you found the cause of the hydraulic issue on the 1486. 👍🏻👍🏻 Hope you're able to get it fixed reasonably. Good luck with the smarting up on the cows. I sold my cows & the Hobby Farm that I had years ago & still ended up getting stuck with a horse. Dang "Dad's Revenge". 😁 ROCK ON FARMER PETE!!!!

    "western truck and tractor repair" youtube channel also made a video of this. This must be very common on this model of tractor.

      I have to remind myself that these things are closing in on 50 years old. Stuff's gonna wear out.

    Thanks for the update Pete, that’s a bummer to have to split the the tractor into. I don’t imagine it will be cheap fix either, good luck with it Pete 👍🇺🇸

      Thanks. From what I've read these tractors aren't too complicated to split.

    How you doing Pete! New subscriber here!
    Your diagnosis is right on point! I hate to hear about the tractor having to be split. That seems like an awfully big job, but I'm looking forward to following along. I noticed a video about you getting a knee replacement. I hope the orthopedic healing is still improving and that you aren't hindered much. Have a great end to your weekend, and stay safe out there! - Samuel

    • @farmerpete
      @farmerpete  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you Samuel. The knee is doing great, I hardly think about it any more. I had my right hip replaced in 2019 so I have a bionic right leg now. Hope to get another year or two out of the joints in the left leg.

    I'm glad you figured out what the deal was with it. From reading some of the comments here it sounds like you've got some friends who can come over and help you split that tractor.

      Thanks SBF! I think I'm going to haul it to someone's shop who is better equipped to handle this size tractor.

    Good luck finding your parts. I have had good experience with Anderson Tractor in Bluffton Ohio. They are a salvage yard ND have a lot of IH and John Deere parts. Be careful on splitting that big beast, lol.

      @farmerpete  Před 2 lety

      Thanks! I'm going to have someone else split the beast. I don't have the equipment to split a tractor this size.

    Also if you contact high compactly in Iowa you can cut out the middle man on a new pressure plate and save a few $s there too.

    Yep. IPTO (independent power take off) shaft splines stripped. Not uncommon on IHs. Parts a readily available.

      Thanks! That's what I've been reading. I was expecting to find broken rivets the first time I looked up there, that kind of threw me off for a bit.

    Well, at least you know what you're dealing with now. it was interesting to see how your hydraulic pump comes out - seems rather easy. I need the pump changed on my Oliver 1550 and you have to remove the seat and take a lot of stuff apart to get to the pump. Hope your fix will go smoothly, after you do your research. I'll be watching to see what happens.

    • @farmerpete
      @farmerpete  Před 2 lety

      Thanks. I don't think it will be too bad. I'm glad I pulled the pump, I can fix that bad O-ring.

    The 180 now is your big tractor until you figure the shaft situation. I hope it won’t be to difficult to repair.

    That's sucks to say the least, there are worst fixes that it could have been but it's a pain splitting a big tractor like that with out the correct facilities. If you have problems finding parts in your area Call Ron Jones tractor salvage in Rock city Illinois he specializes in the red ones, he's a great guy with great prices, I'm sure he'll have what you need new or used.
