    This is a great way to deliver paragraph long info dumps onto players. The history of the building's owners, accounting records, security footage, government permitting, employee records, blueprints, business contracts, customer records, and more.
    It may give players a new angle on their approach once outside the net. Its better than having to survive a hell like maze for that one treat inside of a mouse trap. A netrunner, and their associates discover a little bit of knowledge that grants them no benefit. Yet, the players found out something which is better than nothing.

    My DM and I loved creating our own programs. The first I got in campaign was called Mouse. It's essentially both a scout and a decoy that finds out what's in a room if pathfinder didn't and if it fights a black ice program it gives a heads up on what it is so I can be prepared

    Awesome video. You helped me think of a low stakes tutorial where ego is at stake; netrunner is friends with Heywood street rats and someone hacks a net terminal (the only one they can get to semi safely) and now it requires a fee. Guarded by a Skunk AI and a sadistic scorpion on the second level if she tries to crack it further to make some Eddie’s of her own.

    So... I had heard about Cyberpunk 2020 back in the 90’s when I was just becoming exposed to RPGs other than D&D, but I had very little interest or knowledge of it as a middle schooler. Now I’ve become exposed to it as an adult and through the medium of video games thanks to 2077. This has sent me down the rabbit hole of looking up every scrap of information I can and to the point that I’m wanting to find people to play with. Netrunners have the highest level of my curiosity and interest piqued. Thank you for the videos. Now I just need to hit up the Discord and see what I can find.

    My thoughts exactly! Just finished reading the CP2020 core rulebook and I am planning to run an one shot soon. CP2020 seemed really fun but I had no idea that Red even existed when I started going through the book. Initially I had the same thoughts about Netrunning, what with not wanting to split the party and all, but after looking at the Jumpstart kit I thought maybe I can switch Red's netrunning with 2020's. I do feel kinda weird though...I just finished 2020 I was kinda hoping I'd get to enjoy it more...of course we(the party) can keep playing this edition for as long as we like...but it makes sense to me that, if we find Red to be simpler and/or better we will probably switch to that...

    • @JonJonTheWise
      @JonJonTheWise  Před 4 lety

      I think implementing Red's netrunning into your 2020 game should be pretty painless. You just need to fiddle with a few numbers here and there. I highly recommend it. I find it to be a better system than the 2020 system just on the fact that it is so much more simpler. Hop in our discord if you're looking for people to bounce ideas off of. Link should be in the description

    Thank you for this video, especially the part about creating your own programs was really inspiring. I think that the lack of ability to netrun and hack enemies with cyber ware (like in the game) in the rules is something I'm going to have to home brew, carefully. Don't want it being too OP.

    I absolutely love how creative you can get with these programs and the competition programmers and runners can have with each other.

    This makes me think of a possible non-combat role for cyberspace,where instead of fighting an enemy to advance,you have to solve what’s essentially an environmental puzzle. A code could be written on a file in a previous node,and you could punch it in to access something,even a whole other node,or you might have to do a block puzzle that takes a few turns

    I love the video but I had a question, if I am GMing a game which would include a netrunner within it and I wanted to create my own programs such as attack programs to give them how would I go about that? Would I add that to the available night market? Because so far I didn’t want to confuse players so I had only picked from what was already “in the book”

    Am I misunderstanding the Meatspace Actions vs Net Actions breakdown at around 4:20? The corebook breaks down Meat Actions vs Net Actions on page 197 and clearly states that Meat actions are real world, non-Move actions, and that on your turn you can select Net Actions OR Meat actions, and regardless of which, you can still Move. So it would therefore be impossible to take Net actions and attack with a Meat action on the same turn, no?

    • @JonJonTheWise

      I don't have the book with me right now (letting a friend borrow it) but from what I remember, you can move while netrunning. You may be right.

    I generally like the gist of netrunning in Red but I am kinda bothered by the death of World Wide Web in the setting (which is something necessary to not split the party!). I wonder if there can be a middle ground where netrunning rules require the runner to be on the scene and also have access to the Net that connects the whole world.

    • @JonJonTheWise
      @JonJonTheWise  Před 4 lety +7

      I totally understand what you're saying and can relate .
      If you want to Homebrew it, maybe you can still have the WWW exist, but everyone knows you NEVER put anything important on it. Instead keep data in local server rooms in heavily guarded buildings, and force netrunners to come by of they want to get the data.
      One of my old jobs had an "intranet" instead of "internet". Meaning , they have their own version of thr "internet" that is accessible at work only. You could always do something like that. Granted, we were able to access the Intranet from home, you could always Homebrew a rule that says you can't

    With the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 I just started looking into the tabletop rpg. In a normal combat setting can you use a netrunner to use skills in combat against enemies? I assume hacking and damaging cyberware?

    • @JonJonTheWise
      @JonJonTheWise  Před 3 lety

      Your netrunner can do anything everyone else does. They're also the only ones that can hack control nodes. Hacking cyberware is more of a 2077 thing than Red (which takes place in 2045).

  • @maxcaysey2844
    @maxcaysey2844 Před 3 lety

    It sounds like you are still able (in Red) to hack/netrun from home , IF you are able to bypass the obscene amunt of Black Ice programs? Is that correct? Or is it not supported in the rules anymore? Also, if you wanted to, could one homebrew a solution so that you could?

    • @JonJonTheWise
      @JonJonTheWise  Před 3 lety

      You can still access the net but it's filled with self replicating black ice programs that will kill you. So it's extremely dangerous and netwatch has closed it for public use. There are localized city nets but they're very simple and most organizations do not store anything in them of importance. They would rather have a local network they can protect in one of their buildings that have guards in them.
