"Summer Days" don't get hotter than this! Bob Dylan and his band TEAR IT UP! Nov. 13, '02 in NYC.

- This is among my favorite performances from an amazing show during a great tour. Dylan and the rest of the guys really go to town on a crackling hot version of "Summer Days" and all seem to be having the time of their lives - especially Bob. I can't think of another time I've seen him flash that many smiles in under 10 minutes.
Being the last song before the encore, it's preceded by Dylan introducing the band at the start of the video. After a few seconds of dark screen at the end, it also includes Bob and bandmates taking in and acknowledging the crowd's cheers and applause.
The video is actually one of the earliest ever posted on this channel. But that version was from a much earlier, lower-quality encode.
This one has been upgraded to 4K through the "miracle" of Topaz AI video software. It's also benefited from a lot of work on color correction to fix the murky greenish cast of the older video, and some adjustments that have, I hope, made the already pretty good sound on the original version even better. - Hudba
Larry Campbell and Charlie Sexton….you don’t get any finer.😎
This was the best band Dylan had ever had.
It absolutely was. Bob has said so, too.
It was even better with David Kemper on drums. George's drumming was a bit too loud, & Merle Haggard told Bob this when Bob asked Merle how his band sounded. I'm with Merle.
Dang...that was hot. I loved Dylan's grin, and seeing Tony Garnier dance with that bass. More!!!
I thought I was going to pass out when Bob smiled! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Very glad to share everything I can
😂
Almost the whole time, this is just what I do, business as usual, but then even he -- even he -- has to break a smile once or twice at the thought "I made this".
WOW WOW Tony Garnier!!! everyone on that stage. wow what a brilliant version -- that WAS great!!!
Nothing can diminish my love for Bob, but hot damn, that bass player!!
It's Fun to see people Having Fun!
Yes indeed! Whoo-wee!
I was fortunate enough to be at this show, standing on the side of the stage and dancing up a storm. So much fun!
Now THIS is a band !
Wow! One of the best live performances I've seen from him since the 60's/70's period.
Fantastic 👏 👏 👏 👏
Just look at Bob around 7.08-7.10! 😄
Great to see Bob and his wonderful band having so much fun, that's what it's all about. Magical energy and fantastic music ❤
Smokin! Gorgeous guitars! Love this band lineup!
And the singing ..
Uis crazy wild and smashing .. ✓✓✓ So good ... Jane
That was fricken FANTASTIC!!!! The golden years of that band.
SUBLIME
⭐️⭐️⭐️🎼
I saw him 16 times between 1991 and 2014. These shows were AWESOME!!!
Next level
Love watching performances of these old Dylan songs from the beginning of the century!!!
Wow, this video is awesome!
(I mean, also the quality and the point of view)
Thanks! Glad to hear you’re enjoying it.
Sensational. Thanks for posting.
Wow!!! That was just great to watch!!! Larry Campbell had way too much fun too!!! Love it!
So glad you enjoyed it. I’ve captured a lot of great performances by Bob and his bands over the years. Some are already here for viewing on my channel. Many more are coming as fast as I can edit and upload them.
But of all the videos I’ve reviewed so far from the hours of footage I’ve been going through, this is my hands down favorite.
Dylan and the band’s energy is incredible, and Larry Campbell, arguably my favorite among all of Bob’s touring sidemen ever, is absolutely flying on fire.
Fun, fun, fun!!!😅
amazing perfomance...Larry Campbell a great musician...Bob Dylan a genius
I was probably at this show. Hard to say, Bob used to play NY so often you could take a pass on one show and go see another, But SUMMER DAYS was always a Show Stopper. The band just revved up and explored how far they could take it. I miss those days. Bob is still great, but, age takes it's toll, and that was during a (long) sweet spot when HIS BAND, challenged THE BAND as his best backing BAND ever. I feel Lucky to have seen Bob Dylan tearing up the joint during that period. But the man has always got another round in him. he's the heavy weight champ of the world, the once and future king. BOB GAWD DAMN DYLAN!
I enjoyed your comments, Dan.
If you were at this particular show and stayed to the very end, you’ll probably remember it - Bob played “Something” for George Harrison. He explained, introducing it, that he couldn’t make the big London tribute concert a couple of weeks later, marking the first anniversary of Harrison’s death, so he wanted to perform this for George now, because they were “such good buddies.”
Dylan also covered Warren Zevon’s “Mutineer” and Neil Young’s “Old Man” at this show. You can find videos of all 3 plus a couple more from this same show here on this channel. 😁
I agree that this band was among Dylan’s best if not the single best. The earlier line-up when Larry Campbell first joined was great, and the addition of Charlie Sexton put the cherry on top.
I will stand on Robbie Robertson's coffee table, wearing a cowboy hat and yell, "This. IS. The. Best. Bob. Dylan. Band. Ever."
OMG Bobby & Band are SMOKIN"! He's going down & dancin/ prancing round ( really ' feelin' his oats too!) WOW AWESOME JAMMIN
ONE OF THIS DAYS YOU GONNA MISS ME DARLING I LIKE HOW YOU INTRODUCE YOUR BAND BOB HONEY
Phenomenal song! Even more phenomenal musicians! Thank you.
Bob you are just so Dam Cool !
I saw bob play this one at Berkeley Greek theatre in 2002. I knew I was watching something great. This song blew my doors off.
"I got 8 carburetors, boys, I'm using 'em all"
this is called music 🎶
Play it fucking loud!
...but not so loud that you blow out Pete's father's hearing aids...
Wow !!! So exciting ~~~ hurray *** hardnto believe 2005 was a while back.
What a fabulous combination of musicians !!! The crowd is wild. Some spuer imaginative pieces of music here ,, ,Bravo
And 2002 when this performance is from is even longer ago!
Totally astonishing, Bob was peaking (again!) with this band.
Best in the business
Awesome!,!
Bob is bringing the heat.
Seen this one in Philadelphia! I took my mom and I when they blew the back out on summer days, we both said I never heard anything like that! And seen😂 awesome set list that night also. Thanks to that line up
Very cool!
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!! THE BEST I'VE SEEN OF THIS EVER!!!
Absolutely Amazing! Thanks so much for the hard work you put into this. The side-view is just great for watching the band interact. I feel that sometimes Bob keeps his band on a short-leash. Not here. Not in the slightest. And wow they all seemed to be enjoying themselves so much. What a pleasure. I'm going to need to watch this again and again.
Thanks for sharing your reactions, Richard. I get such a kick out of this performance. - it’s great knowing other people are enjoying watching it, too. The work that goes in is all a labor of love - there aren’t many things I’d rather spend my time doing.
There arincluding Bob just having to look around and grin at everyone on stage a few times. My favorite of all, though, is around 6:15 when Larry starts strummng harder and harder, crouching and going absolutely wild, and looking like he’s about to let go with some kind of wild scream.
They’re all feeding off each other’s energy, and it’s great when Tony moves out from the back and gets into the act.
What a work-out they had! I can only imagine how exhilarating it must have felt, all sharing that wild musical energy together like that. It’s so much fun just seeing and listening to them! 🤣
Wow! Now I can see what I saw.
Totally one of my very top most fave r+r tunes!!!
Cool to see Zim having so much fun too!
Genios trabalhando.
a really treat in the morning when you wake up !!!!!! thanks and thanks ♥♥♥
😁❤️💕

This channel is superb! So glad I recently subbed! Thanks!
Thanks and welcome! I'm glad you're enjoying what you're finding here.
For years while I was making these videos I wasn't sure what to do with them. I wanted people to see them but didn't want to risk legal trouble, nor discover bootleggers making money off them selling 5th generation down copies, etc. By the time CZcams presented an answer, I was too busy with other pressing matters to deal with them. But now that I finally have the time, I'm enjoying the opportunity to share these videos with other fans who love Bob Dylan like I do, probably more than any of you might guess. I didn't make them just so they could sit on a shelf gathering dust forever.
There's lots more material coming. It won't all be as good as this -- these are among the best results I ever got -- but there's still a lot of other quite nice stuff on its way - covering shows from 1989 - 2004, plus a couple from last November.
I hope you'll keep enjoying what you see here.
This is one for the ages.
Oh man, that was fun! As much as I have been digging the R & R tour, the Larry Campbell-Charlie Sexton days were a jam fans delight! Pure gold! ❤️
Dynamite
Live it was breathtaking.
Just wow!!
smokin'! larry
Bob Dylan can sing some Rock and Roll, y'all
Brilliant
Great way to spend the afternoon...with Bob! Thanks for sharing this 🙌
You’re welcome. I’m glad you’re having a good time!
🎉Thanks Artur for this 👏💯🎶💞🥰🎉
You’re very welcome!
Amazing, what a band , terrific 👏 definitely one of Bob's fantastic periods
Very much appreciate this post and pro quality all round...very worthwhile...from 20...yes..20 years ago! Bob's uncanny swing vocally, lyrically and musically is a supernatural gift...he outCabs Cab Calloway and outChucks Chuck Berry (but then again, if you didn't have Chuck Berry you might not have Bod Dylan at all!)
Thank you - I’m glad you’re enjoying it. And I enjoyed your comments.
I feel like one thing Chuck Berry doesn’t get enough credit for - at least these days anyway, I wasn’t there “back in the day” - is how great a lyricist he was.
Hank Williams was rightly called “the hillbilly Shakespeare” but Chuck wasn’t too far behind as a wordsmith.
They may both have has some influence on Dylan as a songwriter and not just as a musician.
Go BOBBY!!! YEEHAA!
WOW!!!!!!!!!
a fantastic show all the way through
This has always been one of my favorite things ever. Nice job.
Super 💗
Thank you so much for capturing and recording this. It's stunning.
You’re VERY welcome. So glad you’re enjoying it. It’s one of the greatest pleasures of my life to be able to share these videos with other fans. 😁
Bless you@@ArturArtist . The ranks of the Bobsessed are in your debt.
I could watch this every day ....
Holy fucking fuck
YEAH BOYS YOU ARE THE BEST
Good gawd! That’s amazing
Great
WOW.
💃💃💃💃 Bravo!!!!
Smoookinnnn
I saw the show on the 16th. But from nowhere that close. Had he opened the album with this tune, I believe he would have sold many more copies and won Album of the Year yet again.
Maybe. Certainly would have made a better opener than Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee. lol
THAT! was awesome!
smoking !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes,,, It's Fantastic !! Thanks for the amazing camera work, Carol...just great...
Awesome concentration and timing
This is crazy good
The 7.08-7.11 moment! 😇
One of my favorite moments, too!
Wow!!!
Rythmn unbounded ... Great great great , ✓✓✓✓. Jane
That was great!
Figures, this song came out in '01... TOOMIOMM. What a performance though, seriously. I know that was fun to witness! (Yet it does sound like something in the PA system was off or something... Respectfully) Bob sounded on top of the world this show. ⚡
Actually, 2001 on "Love and Theft."
@@ArturArtist ah yes, my mistake! Thanks Carol. ❤️
Damn!!
Great. Thanks.
You're so very welcome. I love being able to share these with other fans.
Epic
Fuck YES! Thank you so much to whoever...
You’re welcome. I’ll be posting some other stuff eventually, but right now all the video here is footage I shot between 1989-2004, and for several reasons never circulated until recently.
Now that I’m able I’m trying to share as much as I can as fast as I can, because I’ve always wanted other fans to be able to see and enjoy it all.
But I wasn’t sure how without getting in trouble before YT came along, and by the time it did I was too busy with a bunch of other life issues that didn’t allow me the time needed to deal with the videos until fairly recently.
But now that I can, I’m very much enjoying giving other folks the chance to see them.
The audio tracks on the most recent uploads BTW were recorded by my husband who passed away in 2007. (My real name isn’t Artur)
During 30 years of dating and marriage we saw Dylan roughly 200 times together. Jon audiotaped virtually all of them and starting later, I videotaped about 1/3 of them.
So keep checking back or if you like, maybe consider subscribing, because there’s A LOT more on the way. 😄
Is reminiscent of Jitterbug Vibe. Just INCREDIBLE. F the Neg Comments! BE GRATEFUL. Thnx Moth. G.B.U. xxx
Great fun
So fucking great!!!
This is one of my all time favorite videos. The band reaches such a fever pitch!
I will stand on Robbie Robertson's coffee table, wearing a cowboy hat and yell, "This. IS. The. Best. Bob. Dylan. Band. Ever."
Go for it!
@@ArturArtist 😁
Agree, but with David Kemper on drums.
Well said. On the album version album version he is snap crackle and pop.@@MarkKisciras
Oh me oh my oh. Yep.
🙏C’est excellent. MERCI
good times
great to see Bob laugh, but I wonder what made him laugh?
楽しい動画ありがとうございます🎵ボブディランはどんな時も良いですね~🐧楽しませていただきました❗ありがとうございます🎵🐧
Woah 🤦🏻♂️ just woah .
Whoa is right, man !
" uck me where did that come from outer space
🤣
If this video is really at MSG it’s in 2001. Which btw was one of Bob’s best tours ever.
Hi Mike -no, this video IS from Nov. 13, 2002 at Madison Square Garden.
I am curious if you wouldn't mind sharing - what made you think it's from 2001?
This "Summer Days" is from the second of 2 shows Bob played at the Garden that week - the other was 2 days earlier on November 11.
I know for sure because I shot it. This was the same show where Dylan played "Something" as an extra 3rd encore in memory of George Harrison, because he wasn't going to be able to appear at the big memorial concert in London a couple of weeks later, commemorating the one-year anniversary of Harrison's passing.
You can see the video of Bob's performance of "Something" here on this channel, too, as well as 4 other songs from that night - Neil Young's "Old Man," Warren Zevon's "Mutineer," "All Along the Watchtower," and "Blowin' in the Wind."
Eventually I'll get around to posting more songs from this show but I have video from a lot of other dates and tours to get to as well. I skip around some for the sake of variety, since I have material spanning 1989-2004, plus a couple of shows from 2021.
So far I'm only posting videos here on this channel that I shot personally. I have about 100 hours in all from around 75 shows to go through, so I expect to be busy adding more for quite a while.
I heartily agree that 2001 was a GREAT year for Bob. I saw 13 fall 2001 shows and filmed 12 of them, including the Nov. 19 concert at MSG that year.
Here on this channel from 2001 you can currently see videos of "Mississippi" and "Visions of Johanna" in Chicago; "If Dogs Run Free" from Syracuse; "Til I Fell in Love with You" and "I Want You" from Green Bay, WI; and "Desolation Row" from Uncasville, CT.
I'll be adding more from that tour as well eventually.
Right now I'm concentrating on adding a couple more songs to the several already available here from two November 2021shows I saw.
If you'd like to keep up with new additions whenever they're posted, please consider subscribing.
Cheers!
I was obviously mistaken. I thought it was 2001 because I did not recall Bob playing MSG two years in a row. Thanks for all the information.
