    I am so happy you get so much enjoyment out of that Starcraft. I have my grandfather's 1970 super sport bowrider version. Have replaced cosmetic stuff and will replace floor soon, but in great shape. My kids are growing up on the same boat I did. We have camped on it and fetched firewood on it. It's a cruiser and a pick-up truck all in one. her name is "Cleat-us." Love it, love it.

    Great restore on the boat. I have a 1973 StarCraft American - same colors yours that my Grandfather bought new and it's still going strong with the original 85hp Johnson. Starts right up and never misses a beat.

      I got one needs a new transom core and partial deck. No windshield tho. I got almost 20 years out of that boat, it was awesome for it's size. Probably next year's project. Funny thing about this video is a bought a sylvan as an upgrade.

    I can dig it. Just bought a 1971 Starcraft 150 with the original Chrysler 45HP motor. Boat has been in storage inside a garage since 1997 because of illness and death. The son inherited the house and he just wanted the boat out of the way. I paid 500 dollars for it.

    NICE rebuild. But personally, I would have redone the Sylvan, used it for my main boat, and then found a different motor for the Starcraft. But that's just me. I prefer aluminum over glass

    Hey, thank you for commenting. Do you have any photos or videos of the Starcrafts you have? Also, the Sylvan had a cracked transom and was really in disrepair...

    Nice Starcraft.
    I wish I had the time/money to restore my 1975 Starcraft American 16 but my 1966 Starcraft Jupiter is all I can handle at this time. The Starcraft American 16 is giving up its 1985 Johnson 115 for the Jupiter and if I can't find the American 16 a good home soon, it may end up stripped of everything salvageable and be on its way to the landfill.
    So, what did you do with Sylvan aluminum boat? That thing looked amazing.

  • @jeepcollector91
    @jeepcollector91 Před 11 lety

    I have a walk around video of the '75 American 16 and some videos of my current project, the '66 Starcraft Jupiter on my channel. I still would have given you $500 for the Sylvan even with the cracked transom. Aluminum is really easy to work with. I am in the process of stripping down the American-16 and salvaging everything useable. Hopefully the parts will help others with restoring their Starcrafts.

    My 76 American 18 runs strong. Yamaha 115. Now restoring cover and vinyl. Any tips.

    I commented too soon. Saw at the end where you said you "Recycled" the Sylvan. I would have given you $500 for that complete hull w/o the trailer.

    What did you use to restore the fiberglass gelcoat on the outside?

    I just picked up a 1974 American open bow with the Mercury 850. Where did you get the carpet? And what color is it? I’m having trouble finding anything except for a couple of pictures of your boat on searches. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • @camfromgm
      @camfromgm  Před 7 lety

      There isn't any carpeting...it's vinyl flooring. But if you'd like carpet in your boat, you can get it in many marine dealerships. Whenever I have used carpeting in previous applications I have simple purchased it at a retailer called Fleet Farm. Use simple flooring adhesive to apply:}
