- Hi friends! So in today's video we are getting a little controversial and talking about beauty gurus and beauty guru trends that I feel fly under the radar as a result of bigger influencers being so problematic. I really wanted this video to be a conversation about why these things go unchecked and at what point is an influencer considered "Problematic"? Again this video is not meant to bully anyone or to tear anyone down, the people who I talked about are more to serve as examples! I hope you guys like this video and I will see you in the next one!

Swearing doesn’t make you an adult.
I think another issue that doesn’t get talked about enough is influencers promoting potentially dangerous health advice to their young audience. I know people call out the Kardashians for promoting diarrhea teas and stuff, but I see so many similar things on YT and IG. I think there are way too many young people being told that this vitamin, or this shake, or this wrap will cure all their issues, and it’s so so dangerous. These people have no place giving medical advice.
Stevi Lorenz zThis!!!!!
Or prompting their diets and what they eat in a day as safe and valid nutritional advice!!! No no no!
Amen.
Preach!
Amen to this!
As soon as I found out Rachel is anti-choice, I unsubbed. She is entitled to her opinion but I sure as hell am not going to help her make any money.
Same. I really enjoyed her content but I can't support radical viewpoints so I unsubbed
I agree! BTW you are soo pretty ur profile pic is so cute haha
@@stellar927 aww thank you ☺️
Wow I’m so glad I never subbed to her. I’d watch her videos when they popped up in my feed and really liked her energy but I refuse to support someone who has such different views from me.
And she call herself "pro-life feminist" as if such thing can be existed... Unsubbed.
Honestly I unsubscribed from Sarah Therese when she started ranting about how animals have no souls 😂 It was the last straw lol
Kennedy Ward animals have no souls? I’m glad I don’t watch this person because I was triggered reading your comment.
@@LCx829 was thinking the samething because they have feelings just like us if not more
Does she not have pets? Anyone who has pets and really loves them has seen the soul of an animal.
@@lulu5803 she doesn't have pets. That vegan Video wasn't too bothersome for me because there she stated how it is written in the bible. And I rather have her say that than just claim it out of the blue like she normally does. And she wanted to distance herself from the crazy vegans that are definitly out here on youtube. She makes a lot of plant based dishes.
I really don't like her but when she called the online vegan community out I think she had a point. And I think she also had a point when she said that you can minimize your carbon footprint in other ways than being vegan. Buying organic and locally, thrifting. And she is also for reducing animal products. Like eating meat every two weeks and from a farm where animals are treated well. I say that because sometimes vegans shame people who are eating animal products but fly by plane, buy H&M clothes and plenty avocados while living in a cold climate. I'm german and I had a friend like that and it really got on my nerves. So in that case I get were Sarah was coming from
How Da f***k was she not immediately canceled ?!?! I can’t cancel culture her on this !!

@@sevothtartesama18 The brands need to do a better job too. There's one brand mentioned in this video that has been doing a lot of sponsorships and a lot of the creators aren't disclosing.
People reframing misinformation as an opinion or free speech are literary infuriating
If it's in terms of objective information, I definitely agree. However, free speech is very important & certainly shouldn't be downplayed. & everyone is entitled to their opinion, as well.
Frankly, people can think what they want, so long as they aren't promoting their subjective opinion as objective fact. & no direct calls for harm/ threats, of course. I don't agree with "potentially harmful" things not being considered free speech, as that is purely subjective & impossible to properly gauge, let alone regulate.
But yeah, it sucks when you see, for instance, people promoting pseudoscience as fact. It's really common in the beauty community, actually. Parabens, for instance. There is zero proof, at all, of parabens causing any harm to people. Yet the beauty brands went along with it, just to shut up the sketchy groups that pushed these scare mongering agendas. It's pretty horrible. Collagen is also perfectly innocent, and alcohol almost always is (though not in all cases, just, the way people act like anything alcohol in the ingredients make it bad is cringey, & it's SUPER common, especially with the most popular "gurus"). Then there's the idea that "organic" aka "natural" ingredients are somehow better. It's such a common fallacy that it's got its own term - appeal to nature. It's pretty silly.
There's more, but yeah. Point is, I feel you.
Regardless, have a good one!
Tc.
Reframing? Maybe it’s what they believe. For you it’s reframing but for them it’s their opinion. Your opinions and beliefs will change with experience and information. Please allow others the same option.
@@brigitb4850 nope, they only want their own voices to exist. Otherwise you're prObleMatiC
I wholeheartedly agree! But expressing misinformation also needs to have a place or how can we counter it with facts?
@Lana Joy I agree with that more reasonable interpretation. I've noticed that there is a range of interpretations to posts, ranging from the less reasonable to the more reasonable. Considering that people are much more multidimensional than the flat strawmen we can so easily misread them as, I think it makes sense to assume the other person meant the more sensible interpretation instead of the dumber one. Any misunderstandings will arise without needing to be hurried along by unnecessary indignation
Also problematic: YTers who sign on to MLMs with a quickness once they have an audience. As soon as I catch a whiff of that, I’m out. Credibility gone.
Heather W I signed up for an MLM with a smaller YTer only to find out months later that they actually left the company and now I have no idea who the commission off my orders is going to nor do I have any real support regarding questions, etc... So ad revenue and sponsorships aren’t enough, YTers think it’s okay to use their following to make even more money off of pyramid schemes. I’ve seen many people who I would consider nice and trustworthy do this on their channels. It’s disappointing and I’ve unsubscribed to a few over it.
@@iwillstom omg I'm so sorry to hear that :( who was the youtuber?
@@Dream-ki3th It's been over two years now so I honestly can't remember. I'm not sure I'd want to embarrass them though. It's possible they left the company because they were upset with them? In any case, I'm left with complete strangers as an upline.

Your not a feminist if your hurting alot of women and are putting there bodies at risk
kitty kat beauty theres lots of medical problems that arise from people getting abortions. From hemorrhaging, depression, to somethings parts of fetus’s are left in the mother (leading to shock as the part decomposes in the body). There’s a lot of side affects and even in 2019, an abortion pill killed 24 women and injured thousands. So let’s not kid ourselves that abortions are always safe, they are not always. They can go wrong, and it’s dangerous to women to pretend it is safe. Because for some women, the safest thing is to just have the baby. Because our bodies are made to have children and is not meant to have the fetus sucked/chopped out. I’m just saying because of how this comment is phrased-from a purely medical perspective, you have to acknowledge all sides. Abortion isn’t a pleasant nor a glorious procedure. It is messy and can be life altering. And leave women with health problems for the rest of their lives. Not saying a child going full term wouldn’t either, but like I said, it is very dangerous to pretend you are hurting women by not supporting abortion when abortions are hurting women as well. It’s not so black and white.
Nuclear Lioness Actually many abortions don’t leave women with health problems. Unless they’re done at home, which is what’s being encouraged by outlawing safe abortions
I’m sorry, but that’s simply not true. Once abortion was legalized, the numbers skyrocketed. That’s why, a few years ago, more black babies were aborted than born in New York. Numbers drop drastically when it is illegal, and deaths of botched illegal abortions are very low. Botched, unsafe abortions are only high numbers because in many underdeveloped countries women that have sex outside of marriage can be punished, or worse, killed. Women in the states do not face death in the US, so numbers of illegal abortions would not be high just like how it was before they were legal. Now, as I’ve said, many doctors including planned parenthood try to hush hush the actual numbers of women that experience negative health affects. Including bleeding, uncomfortable walking, and many women felt like they were pushed into the abortion by the doctor. There’s a lot of stories you can look at of women, and even an ex planned parenthood director, that show how they push abortions for money and not truly not talking with the woman to discuss all options. It is a lot more traumatic to watch a mother cry and regret killing her baby than many realize.
@@nuclearlioness2367 I am a L&D nurse, and I have to say, people really underestimate how complicated pregnancy could be, and for MANY women, how life-threatening it is (for mom and fetus). I have seen many women die after a completely uncomplicated pregnancy from an amniotic fluid embolism, to other issues that are actually common like eclampsia and diabetes. Not saying pregnancy is unsafe, but it is an increasingly risky state for mom and baby and it's not as simple and happy as people make it seem. Pushing a baby out of your body or having a c-section is a traumatizing event for your body. Things that were never wrong with you can be an issue during pregnancy and can be more difficult to manage. Not everyone wants to be a mom, and that's okay. EVERY single surgery you go under is risky and has the same complications of bleeding, pain, infection, etc. Those are also very common complications of birth that no one talks about. Postpartum hemorrhage and infection are some of the most common things I see in my practice and are a true emergency and if not treated quickly, end up in a baby with no mommy. Abortion is actually a very simple procedure and this demonization of it is really sad. There are also abortions that you can take with tocolytic agents (the same medicine they give you during labor to induce contractions) or with Misoprostol. I have met so many women who are now moms that said they were glad they had their abortion because they weren't ready at the time to be a mom. I have also met many women who regretted being pregnant and not terminating the pregnancy. All of these feelings are normal and extremely personal. There are always bad stories to everything, but this taboo around abortion is really insane when the same complications happen with pregnancy and worse. If you don't believe in abortions that's fine! you don't need to get one. But I will never not support another persons right to do what they want with their body. Whether its getting an abortion or becoming a mother. These complications from abortions actually commonly occur in pregnancy and the postpartum period. The US actually has really high rates of maternal demise compared to other countries and no one talks about that. If you actually care about women's well being, allowing them to have a choice over their body and advocating having access to safe medical care is a great step towards making a change.
nessakinx I have no idea where you got that statistic but it is plain wrong. Highest material demise? It’s the exact opposite. Or are you arguing third world countries have it better than us? Plus, we have the highest survival rate of premature babies. Medicine is highly advanced in the USA, and compared to how many births happen, death is super rare. So I’m sorry, but you numbers are plain wrong.
Also, someone NO ONE talks about is Amrezy. She does 8-10 undisclosed sponsorships a week. Usually clothing brands, but sometimes teeth whitening, doctors, makeup, etc.
Wow I didn’t even know she was a person all I know is that she has a highlighter
@@lilyg8734 LOL RIGHT? I work at Ulta and we just got her palette with ABH & I'm over here like, who tf is Amrezy?

I am glad that you brought up Sarah Therese. That girl is a train wreck. Everything that she says scares me.
faeriesmak yes! I feel bad for her children...
I have found her to be a good soul- social justice begins in the womb.
I used to watch Sarah because I liked the fact that she was also Christian...but then I noticed she would say and do things that seemed very weird/messed up and I just stopped watching her
Sarah became SO PREACHY. Her minimalist videos (that are now trickling down to other channels) are so extreme. I finally had to stop.
Hannah S Have you seen her IG stories? That’s where she reallly lets loose and says stuff she would NEVER say on CZcams
late comment but i think we need to stop calling it "pro-life" because that is not what they stand for. you cannot be "pro life" and take away people's rights to choose whether they want to risk their life on a pregnancy, because pregnancy still is very dangerous, especially to women in less developed countries. these people are anti-choice and we need to make this distinction much clearer.
I completely agree and my opinion is this: a woman’s body is her own fucking business 👍🏻
AliceRoared speak 🙌🙌🙌🙌😭
the are pro-forced birth 😔
I’m pro situation. As a Christian I have certain opinions on abortion. But I also see where pro choice are coming with a lot of their ideas. Such as it being a risk to the mom and someone being raped. But I also won’t disrespect you bc you got a abortion. My sister got an abortion. Do I agree with her? No. Do I still love her and support her? Yes. I just thing people need to be more respectful of people on both sides.
Lonely Potato that's fair, I think there is a difference between not agreeing with abortion for yourself because of your morals: having an opinion, versus actively trying to stop other women from abortion because it's wrong to you. This is such an unacceptable way to act in my opinion, and takes away choice.
I unfollowed Sahara for that video. I’m a women’s reproductive health and public health major. The information she spread was dangerous to women’s health, postpartum care, and the babies she said she is trying to protect
👏👏👏 I'm always proud to see young women taking an interest in our rights and not only advocating but choosing to make it their career! You are going to be a woman who changes the future for the next generation of girls! Be proud. Work hard. Take every chance to do what you know is right!!!! 💜💜💜
White Trash Wonderful thank you so much for your comment. I come from generations of women who had 5 or more children since they had no education on family planning. Woman’s health and education is so important, Pap smears, mama-grams, mental health, STD , and the correct birth control is important for women’s well being.
@@angierubio8368 Bravo honey, you're doing such an important & meaningful thing! You are paving the way for so many young girls and women! Having access to proper healthcare, being well informed ab/ birth control options, help with family planning in all aspects-these are all things that too many women just DON'T HAVE, despite what certain groups choose to believe. And you're absolutely right, it is DANGEROUS and, IMO, outright negligent to spread misinformation. If someone doesn't have the credentials to give medical info/advice then they SHOULDN'T! Again, I'm very proud of you and what you're doing! #IStandWithWomen #AllWomen
@@AFarmerCalledChicken 😂Glad you like it!!! What can I say, I'm just Tennessee Trash😜
Did I miss something she said? All I saw was the tweet saying that its rarely medical necessity and that shes prolife?
When you brought up Sarah Therese I literally screamed THANK YOU!!! I used to like her when she only did makeup content, but now I can't stand her
Kelsey Mabery idk what happened to her she’s so off now
She is SO holier than thou and it drives me nuts. I used to like her too, but her pro-life video was the last straw for me, she is SO incredibly uninformed and judgmental
Lindsay Block yea that video she made the other day about her views made me unsubscribe from her
Right??? I swear the very second she said she'd start doing lifestyle things, she basically showed us how entitled she is as a 'christian mom'....I really feel like people like her is why others think christians are idiots.........
She also spreads a TON of missinformation i remember a video she did on ingredients that are suppousely dangerous in products and she mentioned MICA which is the thing that makes eyeshadows shiny and it is not dangerous in makeup (although it can be for people who manufacture it)
I noticed Bretman rock almost never discloses. I like him and his content. Cringe, I know. But he never discloses, like howwwwww?
This shouldn’t have to be said but if you’ve had an abortion, know that many people support your decision to do what’s best for you! This is a tough decision for many women and the last thing they need is some who is closed minded to make you feel like crap!
Hannah... name them... name them all 😂😂😂 I think some influencers are very nice people behind the scenes but are strictly on the platform to make money and don’t care how they do it.
Ok, now that I’ve finished the video I would like to add something. I think it is incredibly problematic when white CZcamsrs put products in their monthly favorites videos and say “this has a horrible shade range but it’s such an amazing product.” If you actually want brands to make a change, don’t support or advertise their products if they are not inclusive. Don’t pretend you care about inclusivity and then make a big deal of how great the product is and how much you love it because you are privileged enough to be able to find a matching shade. Everyone shitted on tarte because it was trendy at the time but didn’t call out the other brands that had just as bad of a range. Rant over 😊
Yes!
Yesss! Like, so what the brand doesnt care about you, they got me!
I remember Tati Westbrook did this with the beauty blender foundation it had a crappy shade range and she would still use it because of the formula.
Nah this is kinda wrong, if they're shades are available why shoukd they restrain?
danky yanky I think it’s more so, if you want to use it don’t bitch and whinge about the shad range. Like if you actually care about increasing shade ranges, take a stand. If you don’t, don’t. But don’t tout that you want shade ranges fixed while still supporting the brand.
What I find problematic is how many channels promote fash fashion and over-consumption in this day and age. For example Niki and Gabi have some sort of a buying challenge in almost every video that doesn’t even serve a purpose and those clothes and products will likely never be worn or used again. They are obviously not the only ones, but since you talked about them I thought I would mention this.
How can someone be a prolife feminist? Isn't that a bit of an oxymoron?
Yes.
@@14amb82 Abortions happen because people who are pregnat don't want to be pregnant. And not just women get pregnant and need abortions.
@@14amb82 what do you mean every abortion is born out of fear? That’s ridiculous and not true. The pro choice movement says to women that it’s their business and ONLY their business what they do with thier uterus. It has nothing to do with succeeding at education and a job but I guess your assuming that all women who choose abortion don’t have a job or an education? Most pro life people do not care about helping a women do things with a child. They only care that the child is born. You are very misinformed and mistaken on what the pro choice movement is. Pro life and being a feminist are two totally different things. Being pro life does not equal being pro women. Someone who is pro women would believe that every women should have the right to choose what they do with their body.
No. Feminism is about equality. That has nothing to do with pregnancy.
@Aima Ifabua You can make the choice for yourself. You cannot call yourself a feminist if you want to take choices away from other people.
"can't wait to lose all my subscribers" 🤣🤣🤣
& yet she continued. Give her mad props despite knowing this might be a possibility.
I love listening to your opinions because you don’t hold back but you’re extremely well spoken! Go off legend
I would also argue that #ad isn't clear enough as a disclosure, something like "this is paid sponsorship/ advert/ I was sent this product with/ without obligation to post about it" etc
Spreading misinformation to try to garner support for a position only proves that the person is aware that the truth is not on their side.
D Kelley 👏👏👏👏
About influencers promoting controversial brands, I appreciate how Jen Luvs Reviews does it - she discloses any brand controversies at the start of her in-depth reviews which helps me as a consumer decide if I want to support that brand or not :) (although I don’t think I would even watch a review about a KVD product at this point)
EDIT just to add that I really love your channel! ❤️
I saw Rachelloves in the thumbnail and i had never heard anyyyy tea on her so that has me SO intrigued
I know I have always liked her so I am like oh no what has she done.
I had the same reaction so I went out to twitter to see for myself. Hannah's right, the tweet is there. Quite disappointed in Rachhloves. Had to unsubscribe. And I realize I need to check out creators' other social media b4 i sub to make sure they're values match my own.
She also REFUSES to include boys in makeup on her channel. Like they don't exist. She would always say hey girlies/bye girlies/love you girlies etc. She was called out on it and refused to acknowledge boys or anyone else on her channel at all. I think she changed her outro to bye guys but haven't watched her since all the pro life/bye girlies thibgs so not sure now. I know its her channel and she can do whatever but i unsubbed. difference between youtube and twitter : demonetization, advertiser friendly - the power of the coin. there is no money to be made on twitter.
You hit the nail on the head when you were talking about CZcams vs. twitter... it’s harder to say thoughtless bold shit when they have to say it out loud, rewatch it over and over in the edit, and post it than it is to just type something out and press send
I think this is the case with all of us it's harder to say it face to face than to write an angry message in the heat of the moment
My two cents: If your name is the brand then that person is the brand- there is no separating them. Jeffery star is Jeffery star cosmetics, Kat Von D is Kat Von D makeup. As far as I know they don't have personal and separate company accts = so they are inserting their personal opinions on to their products/ line. I have no idea who owns Urban Decay, nor does their owner toss out their personal opinions on their corporate acct.
As for problematic brands being reviewed... up to the reviewer's choice I suppose- no matter how much you like a particular new palette- I wont buy it if I don't like the associations with it. With ONE exception Kat Von D- I believe she should be cancelled completely- no reviews anything. Her opinion, and it isn't even her having the opinion it was her enabling/ validating all these other antivaxxers. I know we are all sick of this drama- BUT this is beyond problematic- this is Health concern, our (US) number of measles cases is at a record number- it was eliminated in 2000! Lack of vaccinations probably wont kill her child- but it will someone else's. That's why I wont support her or anyone who supports her.
J T she since has came out and said she has vaccinated her child.
@@Belpz4 hmm I hadn't seen or heard that, but I don't follow her anymore. I know in her apology video she basically said she wasn't going to post medical stuff about him or something. Honestly for me she would have to advocate for vaccines for me to think about supporting her again.
1. Measles is a mild childhood illness
2. You CAN GET MEASELS EVEN IF YOURE VAXXED
3. There are thousands of childhood illnesses with no vaccination for them yet you’re only ducking concerned about the fucking measels! Get real, she’s a vegan, vaccines are not vegan, it’s her choice just like it’s your choice. Grow the fuck up and respect other people’s beliefs
I had no idea about Rachhloves. Thats so disheartening and I am glad that you made this video. Thank you!!!
DanielleTeal same! I don’t watch her consistently enough to have picked that up, but I watch her enough to think, damn that sucks!
Same! I had no idea, but I don't have Twitter so I know I miss things like these.
I watch her beauty videos all the time and she never talks about her political views in those videos
I watched her all the time too. So sad about this whole thing. Def made me unsubscribe.
I won't unsubscribe because they have a different view point. I am 100 pro choice, but folks have a right to their opinions. We are allowed to disagree and not hate one another. Now the folks that encourage diet teas etc. Those folks I have nothing to do with.
I used to love Sarah Therese until her channel became so extremist. She was so simple and fun when she was younger. She was almost like a fun sister to watch. Now she just says all that stuff with no research and doesnt listen to comments. When her newer subscribers were starting to be all extreme too I had to leave.
Problematic to me is the practice of massive PR hauls. When I see all of the crap that is literally thrown at the beauty "influencers", I literally cross that brand off of my "buy" list. Someone has to pay for all of the "free" products that gets given to "influencers"- and its us. The consumer. And many influencers are really unappreciative of the free products they get. I ONLY buy indie brands that don't do PR. Makeup is for every one- not just for the priviledged few.
Yeah, I had to unsubscribe from Sarah Therese because, frankly, I don't appreciate her preaching and judging. If you consider your life a walk alongside Jesus Christ and want your decisions to reflect your interpretation of what that should be, cool. I'm a godless heathen and I can 100% step to that. But some her views - such as pitying women who reach 30 without breeding and and considering herself more "productive" than the rest of her generation simply because she's a married plural mother - are indicators that she really needs to stay in her lane. It doesn't surprise me that she'd spread false information about a deeply personal and potentially traumatic choice that no one, NO-ONE, wants to make. Not every woman wants to be a baby factory, honey. Just because your religion assigned that purpose to you, doesn't mean the rest of us need to play those reindeer games.
(Sorry for the rant, but...yeah, I had beef.)
Holy Flying Spaghetti Monster! ST said those things, too? 😱 Just when I thought it couldn't be worse with her... Fwiw while I am very very pro choice I am happy to hear opinions from women on pro life. I am not OK with misinformation, opinions labelled as fact, or men weighing in on what is a womens health issue.
FWIW, I don’t refer to those people as pro-life because they don’t support life, only births. I’m pro-life. I support the life of the women already walking this earth. We are human beings who don’t suddenly turn into incubators when we get pregnant. I’m really bothered by the amount of misinformation around this topic and all the heartbeat bills popping up are at the center of that. I wish all the men weighing in would seek guidance from medical professionals...
Say My Name. If they supported life, they would give a damn about the pregnant woman and not just her fetus. If they supported life, they would educate themselves about pregnancy and issues surrounding the decision to have an abortion instead of ignorantly pushing misinformation. But all we hear about is “the unborn child” when the truth is that it is the possibility of a child, not an actual child. A fetus is not more important than the woman carrying it, because she already exists in this world and her thoughts & actions have meaning. So, if you’re not considering the effects of pushing your beliefs on to these women, then you only care about the birth of her child, not her life or her child’s life. Where are the policies of the “pro-life” community intended to support these women and their children after they have given birth? Because from what I’ve seen, everything is focused on forcing birth, not encouraging a good quality of life for all.
Tracey Jean Exactly this. I couldn’t agree with you more.
Tracey Jean I agree with the majority of what you said except that it is nobody’s responsibility to ensure a quality way of life for anybody else. I work hard for my money and I don’t expect you to come out of your paycheck to pay for me and my kids. You need to check yourself.
@@mariaryder7840 noone should expect it but don't we as humans have the urge to help people in need?
Please do a video on Sarah Therese. She drives me bananas and no one talks about her
Omg yes! I'm so glad someone finally said it?? I was subscribed to her for .2 seconds and then watched a couple of her videos and I was like ...is she really saying hola muchachos from her white mouth to her white audience lmaoooo
There were a lot of things about her that bothered me tho
Victoria Byers Lol right?! 😂 she should have stuck to doing makeup because her holier than tho attitude is 🤮
Yeah, I agreed. I unsubbed from her because she got too much for me
Literally! I thought I was the only one who had issues with her because no one talks about it! I watched a few of her vids and was audibly like... "wow, you think you're better than everyone"
I was subbed to her for a hot minute too!, and somewhere along the line, she rubbed me the wrong way. She just annoyed me, and i couldn't put my finger on it. I was just commenting that I'd be curious to see a video about her too.., but i wouldn't want any negative backlash for Hannah. (Im still kinda curious tho!)
Glad you brought up the Twitter thing. I see this “Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde” situation a lot. I don’t know if Twitter is where they can let their true colors come through or if they’re just posting random thoughts that pop in their head, but it’s an interesting dynamic over there. I don’t like when they post hate comments from their videos with the person’s name not blacked out so their followers can talk crap about them ultimately do the same thing, it’s hypocritical and juvenile.
Who are the biggest offenders? I would like to avoid them.
I think it’s great that you’re talking about this. It’s something I’ve thought a lot about lately and it’s definitely not discussed enough. There have been so many times when I’ve loved someone’s CZcams channel for a while and then I stumble across them on twitter and it’s like a whole different person, or I see some opinions that I never would’ve guessed they had. I feel like a lot of the time they talk about love and acceptance on their channel and then support the exact opposite on twitter.
And I’m so torn about the whole “separate the product from the person”, because I personally can’t do that, especially when the whole brand is based on a specific person like with KVD or J*. But there are some channels that I really like that do that and I have a hard time knowing where I draw the line tbh.
Anyway, I think you were super mature and respectful about this whole thing!! I always love getting your opinion on things like this.
DUDE make a whole video on Sarah Therese!! ive always disliked her just cuz i find her annoying, but i didn't know she was problematic!
Omg she is 😳 she has a whole series about how to be a wife which is basically how to have babies and keep up after your husband...and her anti abortion rhetoric is so extreme, she’s super religious but I know plenty of smart, level headed Christians and she is NOT one of them
@@beautybygita2917 thats crazy!! I havent watched her in a while so I didnt know that she makes vids like that!! She sounds BATSHIT
@@FrodoLuver1 I would say to go watch her pro-life video because the stuff that she said was all SO uninformed and problematic and it absolutely baffled me, but she doesn't deserve the view lol. She takes her religion to the absolute extreme, is so judgmental and has an insanely holier than thou attitude and she is making that very clear recently
I used to watch her, before she had her first baby, but her acne advise just made me mad. It’s so bad.
Then when she got pregnant she became all like, ‘better than everyone’. And shoving her religion down everyone’s throat. Noooooope. Unsubscribe.
@@beautybygita2917 well, it's her channel and she can talk about whatever she wants there. You don't like her, don't watch her. I've seen her vids and as far as I know she makes this videos talking about her opinions and her lifestyle, and she does not push it on anyone else. It works for her so she talks about it, she has a right to.
RachhLoves in the thumbnail surprised me lol. I don't like to watch her (believe me, I've tried) but i've never heard any "tea" on her so I didn't expect her to be here. Well i'm very intrigued lol.
Casper the bitchy ghost I just saw a Reddit post about her yesterday, calling out her “pro-life feminist” posts from 2017. I had no idea she did anything controversial either.
I actually really like her channel and I didn't know this about her. Yeah...it's a no for me now..can't support her
She doesn’t. She’s never political on her channel. Ever. Apparently she tweeted something and the comments became over the top.
@@danaeddins5590 yeah she's pretty chill on her CZcams. I don't use Twitter so I didn't know about anything.
I watch her channel but don't follow her on twitter, so missed the post but I've never heard her say anything political or pro life on her channel. Without seeing the context of her tweet I don't know how bad or not it was bit despite being pro choice myself, technically she'd be correct in saying "most of these procedures are not a medical necessity". I'd argue that they don't need to be a medical necessity but I can't really poke any holes in that one statement. A medical necessity is something physically life and death. Some abortions really are but the majority aren't.
please talk about sara therese shes INSANE
People are braver on Twitter because you cant "see" them say it.
For me I don't think I can be a fan of Shane Dawson any more.... it makes me mad how he constantly endorses Jeffree Star, who time and time again has shown himself to be an evil person. Why does he keep putting out these "docuseries" that basically try to get these people back in the public's good graces??? Also he got involved in the James drama why?? He's actually so problematic
YES! This is so fucked to me because people worship Shane and blindly follow anything he says, but all he has done is make really bad people look really good which is exactly why all of them feel so untouchable. I’m not here for it anymore and it’s causing the problem of straight up staning super problematic ppl. I’m really glad I’m not literally the only person who has thought this.
Maybe because he knows JS personally and you do not...
Louise Shaddix guess you missed the point of that part of this vid, but ok 👍🏼
I'm so grateful to you for posting this comment. Shane is so shady. I don't think he's an evil person, but he's incredibly manipulative and conniving. His cute "I'm your quirky best friend" schtick is just very effective in swaying his audience. You can easily see how he overly dramatizes everything in an effort to make his videos more interesting, even when he's covering really sensitive topics. It's all for the views. :1
Jeffree has shown he has really grown as a person. The racism stuff was back when he was young which still isnt good but people have a right to have second chances
Thank you for bringing up Sarah Terese! Her lack of empathy honestly makes me sick....
She seems like such a shitty person. She comes across as so ridiculously cold, judgmental and holier than thou. Like I disagree with all of her beliefs on a fundamental level, but if you're going to have those beliefs, at least be a decent person aside from them, and she doesn't even seem to have that going for her
I feel sorry for her kids! In addition to what you said, they have to live in a minimalist household that must be kept picture-perfect at all times. How is a kid supposed to be just a kid in that kind of home? ~Anastacia in Cleveland
I unsubbed from her a while ago bc of her beliefs but then yt suggested her again so i checked out her channel. She does like no makeup?? Which is a total 180 from before. And in the video i watched, she started crying because some people thought she was a lesbian mom and were talking abt her. I was hoping she would say something abt how the judgement toward lgbt+ parents is bad and stuff but she was just like "i dont like how they were pointing at me and talking about how bad of a mom i must be, i take that really personally" and i was just like. [Squints] riiiiight,,,,
You are absolutely correct in so many of these topics and youtubers... I did a HUGE beauty influencer purge about 2 months ago. My hope is that people realize that our views and subscriptions are supporting problematic behaviors...we as viewers are what make influencers what they are. If you do not agree with unhealthy behaviors , spreading hate and incorrect information DO NOT subscribe or watch.
You are on fire with your content, it makes people more aware and actually gives us something to think about! Thank you.
I am blown away by the insightful observations you have presented. You are spot on in your narrative. I've seen a definite trend in influencers lacking integrity.
Here's the thing. If a influencer feels like They can support kvd , or Too Faced , I'm fine with it. I simply don't watch that video.I can't expect people to not like a brand because I don't.
Thats kinda where I'm at. I just don't want to support them supporting the brand if that makes sense lol
wait what did too faced do?
@@smokey_glow it's more , I won't support them , just not that video. For example : I love Tati but I can't stand James Charles. I wouldn't watch videos she did with him.( Not that it's a problem anymore )
@@halien6384 loong story. Google too faced. Jarrod Blandino is a horrible person.
what I hate about people buying "problematic" brands is that sometimes they act like they're such a martyr for not being part of the "cancelling"" crowd, like idc if people continue to buy kat von d on their own, but I've literally seen a couple people say stuff like "yeah i'm going to keep buying her stuff and all of you are just gonna have to accept it" it's so childish lol
So? They can buy whatever they want. What's your issue?
Alienor The cockiness and fuck you of it all.
"A pro-life feminist"....ummm could she be more hypocritical?! Lmao what a joke
The abortion industry is doing a lot of harm to young women. I know a former student who had four abortions by the time she was 17. And her abortion providers did nothing to find out why/ help the LITERAL child that was suffering. These type of situations are where pro-life feminists exist and have valid concerns.
I found this video to be very thought provoking and insightful. It gave me a lot to think about and I appreciate that so much. I love how open you are with your thoughts, but fair.
I don’t understand why people would not disclose ads. That’s just unethical! It drives me crazy!

I called about a beauty influencer on it and she said, well sometimes I mention it sometimes I forget. My thought was : I bet you wont forget to collect your paycheck though
That's the true tea ☕
@@smokey_glow ❤
I always got that vibe from Rachhloves, but I guess I wasn't paying attention! She can hop right off with the "it's rarely medically necessary". So many people end up having abortions for medical conditions that we've never heard of until it's happening to us & we need that HEALTH CARE to save our lives. Thanks for making this video.
it doesnt need to be medically necessary smh women still need them. i hate that argument sm
According to the CDC only 1% of abortions are performed past 21 weeks. (IE “medically necessary”)So technically I guess that does mean that it’s relatively rare compared to abortions performed earlier in the pregnancy.
@@danaeddins5590 That's also because a lot of people are aware of their health issues and abort quickly before it becomes a problem. I'm very safe with my husband, but if something happened I would have to abort. I already know my body can't handle it. I wouldn't need to wait for a doctor to tell me to do it.
Lel Nope I get what you’re saying. I was specifically mentioning late term abortion since roe v wade says abortions after fetal viability cannot be restricted when medically necessary. My point was that it’s apparently statistically rare for that to be the case in the third trimester. (I stay far from twitter, so I don’t know the context of the original statement). I guess across gestation, that percentage would be different. According to a Guttmacher Institute study, 11% of US women undergoing abortion stated medical necessity for themselves OR the fetus as the reason they sought abortion. That figure was for abortions performed at any point in the pregnancy. It did not break down the percentage as to fetal abnormalities/maternal health.
@@danaeddins5590 It's still 1 out of every 100 women that need abortions for medical necessities. That's a lot of women. That would be hundreds of thousands of women *needing* abortions. And there's always pregnancies that need to be aborted due to attaching onto the fallopian tube instead of in the uterus. This would occur much much earlier. So basically even if It's not after that many weeks it can still be an abortion out of medical necessity and there's always other necessities for abortion like financial and mental.
Just read your most recent comment, if it's really 11 percent that's 11 out of every 100 women. It's more than 1 tenth of women physically needing abortions. I wouldn't say that's rare or use it as a way to down play the importance of abortion. That statistic shows how needed it really is.
I just get this feeling from watching you that you're a really nice person. Thanks for doing your videos.
While every other channel covering the beauty community are drama channels, you're here asking the big questions and provoking thoughtful discussion, I love it!
As for the mean personalities, this is my theory based on what I observed while working at a PR firm. It's possible the beauty guru's saying horrible things on Twitter are horrible people IRL and that's why they need the validation on SM to fill the empty void in their soul..but it could also be them trying too hard for "shock value" in order to be noticed ("bad publicity is still publicity"). It's no different than when a politician or business person cracks a non-PC joke thinking they are being really edgy but it backfires and they have to issue an apology the next day (if they aren't fired). Generally, speaking professional comedians like George Carlin, Eddie Murphy, Tina Fey, writers at The Onion, etc. are the only public figures who can get away and even enjoy success when they deviating from PC protocols and there's a reason for that: they've spent years honing and perfecting their craft.
I NEED to know who these mean mid-level BGs are...
I literally never comment on videos EVER but I just need to say I love your videos. Such a well spoken, intellectual queeeeeen
Yes she is!!
Yes! I completely agree with the youtube to twitter conversion!!! I used to love Arnell Armon and then I saw the problematic stuff she posts on twitter and couldn’t support someone like that anymore
Please( !!!) do a video on sarah therese (may have misspelled that lol) so that more people will know about her... I was subbed to her for a hot minute, while she was doing boring makeup talking about how she's literally having mountains of babies (which is fine, whatever), but then she started talking about how animals were created to serve us and that they have no souls and women who get abortions are sinners, and I got out of there faster than a jeffree star tweet. she also said that people who criticize her have sad lives or something :))
I've been following rachhloves for years and I think I've only heard her once talk about being pro-life by saying that she would never get an abortion but she doesn't think it's ok for other's to tell you what to do (I think...). Her tweet - not great. But I do see her as a rich white lady from canada who couldn't even begin to understand why a woman who could carry a baby to term would choose not to. I'm calling her ignorant, but I also know that I'm probably biased cs I like her...
Wow...so she believes herself to be above critique? I won't subscribe, but I've got to check out this vision of holiness.
I think she really doesn't know how other people live and what circumstances force them to abort. She was always homeschooled, married young. I have to say that she worked as a hairdressers so she did get out a bit. But I think her views were never challenged. She's just continuing what her parents showed her.
I agree on rachhloves :) I've followed her for years and i think she's a little ignorant, but the prolife thing has never been a huge point that shes ever emphasized... I'm a lil biased too tho :)
Same! I subscribed to her after seeing a video on having a minimalistic makeup routine, and then suddenly I felt like I was in the twilight zone - because it was all cute food! Cute house layout! I AM MY HUSBAND'S SERVANT. My skincare!
Jen A that was genuinely the funniest comment I’ve seen in so long holy shit
yay! a smokey glow video! loving the consistent uploads
love you so much!
You are spoiling us with another video! I definitely agree when it comes to ads. FTC should crack down and these companies/influencers need to feel the repercussions. Love the content lady! 💄💯👸🏼
Hi! A friend introduced me to your channel a few months ago and I’ve loved all your videos since! I love hearing your thoughts on these topics that affect so many people. Thanks for being willing to start thought-provoking discussions here!
When I saw the title for this I thought I'd have already known about or heard of most of the things you mentioned but you've definitely brought up a bunch of stuff I hadn't ever heard of or seen. Great research 🙌
I understand people being mad about people doing ads for kat von d, I don’t think I would love that. I did see people calling someone out for getting a kat von d mascara from influenster, but then she said she didn’t even like it. I personally think that’s ok, she didn’t buy it and wasn’t promoting it at all, but people on reddit were arguing that she shouldn’t even mention any kat von d products ever again or she is supporting them.... I don’t understand that personally 🤷🏼♀️
Ok last comment, one thing that I think is important to mention is christin Dominique (and others, I know she’s not he only one), posting pictures on Instagram that are horribly edited to make themselves look crazy thin. That’s really problematic for me personally, I feel bad if she is suffering from body issues but she shouldn’t be using that kind of imagery for her brand. But maybe that’s just me 🤷🏼♀️
I find her pics on IG off as well. Her "curves" are not naturally proportionate especially for having a kid
And she also edits tf out her skin to make it pretty much 100% smooth. A Sephora ad aired for her without editing and it was SO different than what she advertises
She talks about the procedures she's done because she felt insecure about her body after motherhood. I think we need to judge less and understand more in these situations.
@@Lillianeee I am not judging her, just asking her to disclose filtering/editing on pictures. Especially when it makes her look like a completely different person and contributes to unrealistic beauty standards. I am not even asking her to disclose cosmetic procedures, just heavy editing.
Thank you for raising these issues for discussion. I personally have no issue with people using products from 'problematic' brands/influencers and see a distinction between using the makeup and supporting that individual and their actions (though I can definitely see why people think otherwise), but not disclosing sponsorships (or even trying to hide them or lie about them) is really annoying for me, whether it's smaller or larger influencers. I know it's slightly off topic as she's a bigger influencer, but I really think that Nikkie Tutorials flew under the radar when she lied about that sponge. A lot of smaller influencers get away with problematic behaviour, but I think a lot of larger influencers do because they're popular/likeable/talented too and a lot of behaviour is excused because of who they are.
What a brave video to make :) I also love how respectful you are here!
P.S. I don’t get twitter.
I love that you have hotline numbers in your description. Thank you!❤️💯
Honestly Twitter is a cesspool & I stay far away from it. Keeps me away from problematic people pretty effectively
beautilushious Right? I never had and never will have a Twitter-Account.....🤮
New sub over here, I found you because of the video you just did with Jen. You my dear are a fresh breath to the beauty community and there's nothing wrong with having an intelligent conversation about sponsorships and people misleading their subscribers. Can't wait to watch more of your videos
I can't stand Sara Therese! She's just holier than thou all the way around. I quit liking her way before knowing her stance on abortion.
Thank you for bringing the RachhLoves thing to my attention. I’ve been subscribed for a while but rarely watch her videos because, frankly, I find her kind of boring. I just unsubscribed from her channel. I’m sorry, but you can’t say you support women and then say you’re pro-life. True support for women is supporting their right to bodily-autonomy.
I’m not ashamed to admit that, if I found out I was pregnant today, I’d schedule an abortion tomorrow. I have a couple chronic illnesses and the medications I take to make my daily pain level mostly tolerable would severely affect a growing fetus. I’m not ashamed to say that I value my own own life and comfort over a clump of cells.
I was in the same boat as you before I hit menopause. Pregnancy was contra-indicated for me also because of health and medication issues. I've had people tell me that I could adopt (as if I was too stupid to know that this was an option), but my health issues also precluded becoming a parent, especially my major depressive disorder. I have had more than my share of scary moments when I thought that my birth control failed. I'm not ashamed to say that I would have had to have an abortion if I wound up pregnant. ~Anastacia in Cleveland
PS- I do love kids. I love to be "Auntie" to other people's kids if I am given permission to do so. I'm sad that my health does not allow me to make commitments such as teaching Sunday School at my Unitarian church or participating in children's charities. 😞
In the UK and Europe influencers are getting into trouble for not declaring ads. They even have to say in Europe if the product was PR. The first ones publicly shamed in regular news media all ran with 'I didn't know what the rules were'. In future there will be more severe punishments issued, publishing their names allows their audience to know they were lied to. When you spoke previously about the big beauty gurus I know you forgot about Nikkie Tutorials (Tati has never made it into the top 3 gurus) maybe you don't watch her, but she now has symbols for ads, PR, and bought it myself. Which is a really easy way to deal with the problem and keep things clear with subscribers.
Honestly, it has gotten to the point where if i dont separate the brand from the face of the brand, there are so many that would be considered "problematic" that there would be no one left to buy from. Too faced has had issues, huda beauty has had issues, kat von d, jeffree star, tarte, lime crime, i mean, i could go on and on. Even bigger very well known drug store brands have had their issues. So even though, i understand the thought process behind wanting all beauty gurus to avoid all "problematic brands", it may very well become impossible to entirely avoid those brands.
I recently discovered your channel and have been binge watching your videos. I really admire the way that you explain everything so rationally, you’re not bashing anyone but actually explaining facts.
Rachluvs makes me so mad bc she thinks every woman has to be a mom or it somehow devalues motherhood as a whole. Not everyone wants to be a mom and that’s okay. Rachel should stay in her own lane. Another woman’s body isn’t her concern.
Cambie X Exactly!! I'm happily child free and that's ok!! She needs to stay in her damn lane.
I didn't know she was pro-life or conservative until Hannah mentioned it. Did Rach state that viewpoint in her videos?
Amen honey 💁🏻♀️
I had no idea that was her opinion. She things every woman needs to procreate? That’s a weird thing to think/believe. I wonder why she thinks that ... esp when it has absolutely nothing to do with her.
Wow I agree and I'm a mom of one myself. I find that unfair and bias, my bestfriend raised all of 5 of her brothers and sisters. She was never a child herself. Shes now 33 and doesnt have any biological children, but she was a parent before her time. Parenting and birthing are two very different things
I have a couple things to say. First of all, thank you for the Rachhloves information. I’ve been watching her videos for about 3 years and I had no idea because I don’t follow her on Twitter. I’m glad you mentioned this before I bought her palette. Next, I loved this video, but can you also put a positive spin on this and do a video recognizing people who use their voice for good. I have a lot of respect for how you manage to bring up topics like this and not be rude or insulting, it’s just a discussion.
Love that idea!
I started tapering off of Rachh a while ago. There was something about her channel that grew to feel really inauthentic and contrived, but I kept watching until the anti-abortion stuff came up. She’s entitled to her opinion, but I’m not supporting her with Adsense dollars,. And then there was a very tiny channel where I went back and forth with the creator because I said I found KvD’s anti Semitism to be too problematic to continue to buy, and the creator gave me flak for it with and tried the I’m “punishing her employees” line, and there was a whole “it’s just makeup” thing, and I didn’t want to be in an argument, but it felt so stupid to be dealing with someone who felt that in a competition between racism and makeup, that it was worth going to the mat with a stranger for the makeup. I just quit that channel and didn’t look back. I just can’t with some of these channels.
I agree with some of the comments mentioned below.... it’s related to ads. The influencers who push misinformation about how they got their hair, skin and nails to look so wonderful or how they lost so much weight.... desperate consumers who want that quick fix seem to buy almost anything.
Hey! Your videos have become part of my routine! Love your real and honest personality😁😁 watching from Ireland!
To the people who say "I don't care about beauty gurus' political/social views, etc." or that what's considered problematic is subjective: it's a PRIVILEGE to be able to live a life where certain issues don't affect you and you're able to look at them from such an unbiased viewpoint. Unfortunately, plenty of people do not have the luxury of living in that bubble and that's why talking about this stuff matters to us; even more so when it involves people on CZcams who have an audience who is influenced by the things they say. Thanks for bringing attention to this! I've heard about some of these from Reddit (esp Rach) but many of them are new to me.
I think you make excellent points here. There is a lot of shenanigans that fly under the radar, especially if you're not looking for it.I only found out about the RachLoves situation after seeing people discussing it on IG posts talking about the Pixi collab, and it really took me by surprise. I've followed her for a couple years ish,but only recently started using twitter so wasn't aware of anything at all.
The most annoying part of undisclosed sponsorships are the viewers that give youtubers crap for disclosed sponsorships, while praising the "honesty" of those that don't disclose.
I don't think influencers are controversial because they promote controversial brands on their social media. I like the way Jenluvsreviews does it, in every review she'll tell you about brand controversies, so it's up for
the viewer to decide if they want to purchase a product despite the controversy. It's annoying tho', if influencers praise controversial brands without mentioning the controversies or offering dupes.
Ok but I LOVE THIS MAKEUPLOOK and I am glad you talked about this topic!
I just found out Rachh pro life today. I just don't understand why she is not make her stand on youtube too. I won't support that but she can have her own opinion. Just why hide to majority of your viewer, it's baffled in my mouth.
I do know that Rachh is very religious, I believe she's Catholic IIRC
So I never comment on videos or even really engage at all (working on it as to support people who deserve it) you are one of them :). I’ve become totally obsessed with your videos! you’re style of commentary is something to be admired and praised. you clearly do your research and although your videos come off as pretty drama centric, I appreciate that you showcase a very tactful way of going about your rants :) You deserve your clout, recognition and growth in your channel. your honesty and is SOOOO refreshing and genuine :) keep doing what your doing cause you’re doing it right! ❤️
Your makeup looks so good here. Loved your perspective on this! You have a very classy way of approaching drama..
Love the sexy pale vampy goth look
Also I'm learning the pretty people of CZcams are endlessly problematic
Another excellent video Hannah! My entire family are medical professionals and to see these lies being spread about abortion just enrages all of us. Sarah Therese is also of the mindset that men are above women in every way and it’s our job to serve them 😡 I also agree I will never buy a product from KVD, or Too Faced as examples. People do support their ignorance with their dollars. These are important issues and I swear, If I had daughters I’d want them to be just like you and Zara (dishwashingliqwid) I’m so happy you started a channel, this is a special place 💗
I watch most of Rachel's videos and I have never heard her say anything really political....
Personally I believe that if your still using a problematic palette or makeup product that is okay bc it’s money and you don’t wanna waste it. BUT if you are still buying there stuff after they are cancelled or whatever or promoting their makeup that isn’t okay
i don’t think that all opinions should be tolerated. if your opinion marginalizes and dehumanizes people, i don’t think it should be given space.
feministfairyprincess uuuum, If you don’t think somebody should be given space because their opinion differs from yours regardless of the specifics, that IS marginalizing and dehumanizing somebody. You just contradicted yourself and you sound like a hypocrite. PROBLAMATIC!!!!!
Wow, I had no idea about the Rachel situation, I just started following her recently... Thanks for that information, I'll have to look into it more! :O
Again, I don't think it makes her a horrible person, but the way she talked about it really rubbed me the wrong way! Glad I could inform you 😊

I only recent started watching her. But every video seems like an ad to me
@@gigi2k326 she's just really enthusiastic. She's a lot like Tati where if she doesn't like a product she will always bring up good things about other products the brand makes to even it out. It actually has lead me to a lot of favorite products. :)

Loving the consistent uploads! You have quickly become my favorite channel to watch; I love that you’re not afraid to call people out by name if they’re being problematic.
Im binge watching your content because you are so well spoken and I really enjoy hearing you speak, even if its about people i dont even know! Haha, keep it up girl you have a real talent for this!!
