Hey chaps! Should I stick with the 38" Ultrawide or 48" TV?
48 inch... The bigger the better... That is my moto
I think for a desktop, 38 inch is already large. Idk I get distracted by wide angles, so I'll prob stick to something I can see from edge to edge.
Nice tv
i think the 38 ultrawide is better
try seating yourself a little back
**Moms screaming from behind to not sit too close to the TV**
"You'll get square eyes" - Mums everywhere.
@@Thetechchap hahaha
The old tube televisions did give off radiation. It's just no longer the case with LCD.
@@Trazynn true, TVs nowadys don't emit radiation, they are just black xD
Actually sitting REAL close to a TV is bad for you eyes. You need to constantly change the focus from one length to another as we move our eyes
I bought this as my regular TV, this madman buys it as a monitor with his face planted against it :O
Ya that's what I don't get, back in the day we were taught to not sit too close to the television, lmfaaaooo and I'm probably younger than this guy lmfaaaooo 😂🤣 I guess he wasn't paying attentionn
@@Bushey4545 hahah so true😂
So how many hours are you sitting in front of your TV daily? VS computer....get it? Computer usage waay outweighs TV usage for almost everyone so it makes way more sense to enjoy this picture where you actually spend most of your time.
@@Bushey4545 high definition changed everything. Now the bottleneck that limits the viewing distance is not the pixel density of a screen, is human viewing angle, so you can sit as close as you want as long as that you don't have to rotate your head while working.
@@Bushey4545 to be fair tv's back there we TRASH and the cause of 80% of the population needing glasses. These days its so much eye care implemented into all of them
I have the 55" and using it as a second display with my MacBook has been amazing. Not to mention how great it is for gaming.
So much for the recommended viewing distance from a TV. Cause that's sitting REAL close to a TV. lol.
LWC not close enough!!! 😂
Its nonsense to stay so close. RIP eyes before the time.. :))
Id sit way further from than a regular monitor due to the size.
Also, does mobile phones kill eyes? Afaik, nope.
a decade ago my parents would scream bloody murder if my face was that close to the "TV"
@@drakdivin It doesn't damage the eyes at all. Keep the room well lit and you are okay, there is no toxic radiation coming from OLED or LCD screens. It was a concern with Crt screens, but even that wasn't really justified i guess.
I just got this tv a few weeks ago and I don’t think I can go back to ips monitors. It’s too beautiful and the perfect blacks are amazing.
Yeah monitors look like crap after you play on a good tv.
@Paul Miskimmon I moved to this from a Acer x34p iOS panel, and can confirm it looks like crap compared to an oled
Yeah my ips used to look great. But compared to my c9 it's not even close.
Yup. Bought a 55 LG C9. Totally different league from a monitor. Just incredible for all uses. But for gaming it’s mind-blowing.
Bought the B9. Amazing even at 1080p and 1440p 120hz.
I've been using this OLED since it came out and it's been excellent as a monitor. But since you are one of the first in the world to have the combination with HDMI 2.1 could you might do some testing on 4:4:4 chroma and also VRR functionality? We're all dying to know!
I agree! Everyone is looking for options now for next gen gaming ad monitors are limited in the 4k HDMI 2.1 area.
OLED as a monitor? No burn in?
zZiL341yRj736 Nope, I also have had it since it came out and also had the C9 since it came out before this. Not a single bit of burn in.
soldier555555 , you may want occasionally display a full screen of 50% gray to check.
@@tech-utuber2219 if he doesn't notice while using than it doesn't matter if there's some faint burn-in :D I wouldn't mind it unless it's noticeable at all times
4:20 it's clear from the video footage that despite being set to "RGB", there's chroma subsampling visible on the text and your TV isn't actually in RGB mode. Go check it out, it's a current bug with the LG CX.
I recommend using this in a dual monitor setup. I have this mounted on the wall and then have my regular 24" below it. This obviously gives you more real estate, the more the better, and allows for gaming with multitasking, and it helps with burn in because you can edit on the other monitor.
32" 4K OLED monitor would be perfect (for me at least)
I'd love a 40/42" one of these
Same I am using 38 ultrawide but if 32 oled came out I am ready to switch stupid LG who still try to sell ips monitor for more than a oled TV witch are bigger
Just make the 38WN95C with an OLED display (and eliminate any chance for burn-in) and it would be the perfect monitor for me.
I have a 34" 3440x1440 and a 28" 4k. For gaming/movies I can't see any difference at all. So, for sitting at the desk, I'm thinking the best/biggest size would be a 38" 3840x1600 ultrawide. Regular 4k isn't really worth it for the desk as the screen would probably have to be like at least 40"+ to see any noticeable difference, which is just too big for sitting desk distance.
32” and 4K is unnecessary 1440p is fine at that size
I picked this up back in July, and have loved it ever since!
Same
Just got this tv as part of my nextgen setup. Love the 48in option for an oled
Thanks man.. now I need one of those :( RTX 3080, PS5, reverb G2.. I will be bankrupted by the end of the year

Just purchased one of these. Its absolutely beautiful!
Hell yeah!
Man these look awesome. Really tempting to get one of these
Wish the next iteration of the TV will have a 42" model, now THAT would be perfect.
That Gulag win at the end was pure flex 💪
i just want to thank you for introducing me to this beautiful monitor! gonna try to grab this baby & match it with either a 3080 or 3090, thanks! looks good
Really good review. Great work.
I need 32" OLED LG!
Or a 40 inch OLED to be a small TV.
change ur windows n browser to dark mode , will help prolong the lifespan from burn in
The same idea. Or install dark reader extension and adjust the settings to pure black background.
Good point!
i have had a 55" for over 8 months 12+ hours aday and nothing yet. its not the white that is high risk of burn in its colour Red thats the worst. i play wow Poe other games for 12+ hours months in a row not a sinlge burnin yet - fingers crossed
@@silverbulletin846 You're probably at around 800-1200 hours of screen-time. Burn in on older models started appearing at around 2000-4000 hours of gaming or static logo's here and there. If it happens it'll be another year for you at least ;p It's not plasma burn in, it's cumulative (uneven-) wear and tear.
@@silverbulletin846 I have burn in on my c7 from CZcams bar but none in my c8 yet. Burning happens but sometimes it hard to notice.

@@scottmjohnson1980 Fantastic, TV looks great and works with my Xbox good too. The built in speakers are also amazing.
WE NEED A 32 OR 34 inch VERSION OF THIS !!!!!
i play on the 55 inch version and it's fantastic !! don't need smaller size (and it's cheaper were i live !) just don't stay too close, you need a wall mount to realy enjoy it and can use it also as a tv/movie screen
so... a monitor?
Just purchased one and at first I was like whoa this thing is huge but you get use to it fast. And you're right the screen real estate is crazy! Definitely need a good amount of desk space that's the only thing.
switched from 34" uwqhd to the cx9 and its amazing!
As I said in other posts, LG needs to release a 32-34" 4k 120Hz OLED.
Yep, that would be an insta buy from me.
Exactly! The sheer power of the backlights of a real tv set for hdr...and the perfect sizes for desktops... now with 2.1 hdmi, there no more reasons not to! ) ...but that would break the pc monitor market too and i guess those major companies have interests in having pc separated markets brands...or maybe new brands will emerge and propose that quickly now...... seems the best combo indeed.. :) little typical old tvs 43'' format (now considered too small for the 4K living rooms..) would be fine too.. but that would already be a maximum... work on desks do require a minimum distance with big screens, or eyes fatigue is guaranteed.. but on some setups, with the correct distance, would already be great for sure..))
I think 40" is perfect for a 4k monitor. At 32-34" most people still have to turn on Windows scaling which isn't the best.
Yeah then you'll be happy to notice some months later your taskbar permanently marked on your screen

Turn off energy saver and eye comfort mode, and the dimming should go away.
and you will get eye issues in no time. OLED will kill your eyes
@@zeus1117 Wrong, OLED has pretty much no flicker like other LCD monitors, it is actually better for the eyes than other conventional monitors, also way less blue light.
Have you gone into the WebOS Dashboard and changed to PC mode? You have to load up the dashboard and in the upper right there is a cog, click it and find the settings to change the NAMES of the inputs. When you do you can go down all the way to the bottom and select PC. This puts it into PC mode that enables you to change the color profiles of the TV such as Standard/Vivid/Filmode without changing the latency of the profile. It also changes the way the text looks.
There’s also another option in the picture settings that dims the pixels of logos and task bars that are static to prevent burn in using the machine learning engine.
Definitely would stick with the Monitor for sheer PPI and size would be too large for me that close.
yep that's more reasonable!
@@Thetechchap If it is then are you going back to a monitor?
Burnin says hi
@@liftusup9208 Yes, that would be my biggest concern.
That's fair. But an OLED shits on literally any LCD screen/monitor. By design.
This is the tv i'm looking at for my RTX 3080 set up, but i'm just not sure if i can sit in front of a 48" monitor at my desk. How is it, after having it for a month or so?
I am running a 40inch 4k monitor currently and no issues at all. Face 50 cm from the screen. I think 48 might be pushing it unless you had a deeper desk and could get say another 15-20 cm away from it
I concur with lag monsta I run a 40 inch and love it. That extra 8 inch is sizeable though.
I mostly play single player so for me having a larger screen you need to move your eyes across is more engaging in a fire fight. It also makes you boss in strategy games that allow proper scaling
Idunno I have both. A 34" curved ultrawide, and an LG C9 65". My PC is connected to both the TV and the monitor. I just switch between both displays depending on my mood. But I have to say it wasn't as satisfying as I thought it would be, yeah the OLED makes even my IPS monitor colors look flat at times, but I recommend having both if possible. If not, just stick with getting a monitor. The monitor is just so much more practical. The TV is really more for entertainment/leisure purposes.
@@gomezalejandrog I needed that perspective thanks.

Oleds black is black, amazing colors and true HDR, you can’t get those with 1200€ monitor or anywhere near that. Good to hear your experience! I'll give turning off screen shift a try - thanks!
Have this exact setup (OLED). Only complaint if you could call it that, are even with a deep corner desk, 48" feels a little big. 42" would be perfect. If you're worried about image retention, buy from BestBuy and get their extended warranty. It's one of the few that actually covers burn-in.

I have one question, OLED TVs (all made by LG) due to there pixel structure struggle with text, how bad is it while using it as a monitor?
I was going to ask the exact same question (had heard it elsewhere and gamestreaming to my 65" B6's nVidia Shield I don't think the text is as good). Shame it hasn't been answered here.
As I was waiting for 48" cx pricing to settle a bit, I tried 50" tv as a gaming monitor. The biggest reason why I prefer my ultra widescreen over the 16:9 tv is the wider fov you get by using ultrawide. I actually used res 3840x1660 on that 4K television and liked it much better. I'm spoiled by ultrawide ☹️
I find a curved 32" 2K monitor so much more practical on most desks and idk why I can't get over the curve, it does the same thing for me as a big TV which I have.

get yourself a vesa stand you can stick behind your desk. I have one with my 55 inch that I'm using as a monitor. It helps you get some distance from the screen, and also get the massive TV off your desk. Its really clean and it doesnt take up any room under the desk. Also, the counterweight (the base of the stand) is all in front of the stand so there isn't a huge gap between the TV and the wall behind it. Look into it! It's worth it!

Is there any reason why smaller OLED sizes haven't been manufactured until now? I'd love a 38 or 43 inch OLED for my space. There's certainly a market for small TVs especially in urban areas, and I'm sure people would pay a premium for the space saving thinness of OLED.
Great question and I'm not sure!
Id say it probably comes down to decreased demand, the fact the OLED production costs are too high for it, and the fact that at those sizes, 4K isnt really that noticeable.
Matt Burkart If they were sold as monitors there would be a huge demand for them. What’s more they could simply use 1/4 of current 55 inch Oled panels to make 27 inch 1080p oled monitors. Might not have the highest res but 1080p is still king especially for fps, and you’d have unbeatable contrast ratio.
Yes actually it's because OLED production can not scale so small. It's a limiting factor in the fabrication process. It's maths not the intent of people or anything nefarious.
Lex Sanders Bullshit. There’s countless different smartphones with oled screens of all different shapes and sizes.
I would love to hear your feedback after some long-term use. I am highly considering selling my current monitors and going with one of these. The low input lag at 120hz is incredible and i just love OLED. Burn in doesn't seem to be a major concern anymore. I would be using this for 6-8 hours at a time, often with static content on the screen for extended periods of time.
Already have your ultrawide for some time now; love it. Oh and went the Stadia route for playing games; tired of upgrading hardware every few years.
Bought a B7 about three years ago now for my room, still going strong, love it and i'm not going back to peasant LED anytime soon... but using an OLED as a PC monitor is a bit bonkers. Regardless of what others say, you will eventually get burn in, the pixels degrade over time to give off that effect, how you use it will determine how long before it happens. A sensible person who did their research will know to vary your content, don't leave it idling on one screen and not have the OLED light whacked up to 100 all the time and it'll last long enough before you want/need the upgrade. The general noddy who buys one will be the same person complaining because the Sky News banner or the screen HUD from COD starts showing after several months.
Lmao I agree, and that last sentence is so true. People that don't know any better are the first to complain. Just do some research before you buy anything

I’m 561hrs in with mine and game a lot. No burn in issues whatsoever. Great job LG.
I'm waiting for a 27” OLED with all these baby issues fixed and connect it to an Mx Mac mini
MicroLED and 32”
The 49" Samsung QLED Q80T does NOT support HDMI 2.1. This is the smallest TV that supports HDMI 2.1 at the moment.
U right is the 55 from samsung that supports 2.1
But Chroma 4:4:4 doesn't work at 4k 120Hz on this TV.
Correct!
I did the same, had a 3080 tuf on back order, so decided to get a 43 inch 4K TV to use, works great, like you I set the scaling to 150%.. Don't think I will ever go back to a normal monitor :)
best review about using a TV as monitor.... congratulations...
You can't use OLED screens as full time desktop monitors. They have image burn in. It's not a big deal for occasional games, but with displaying your desktop, like the same icons, or wallpaper or start menu for long period of time, it will burn that image into the screen. OLEDs are really only good as a second monitor that you don't leave static images on
That's why you use something called a screen saver. There's also built-in features that combat that this, such as dimming static parts of the image over time. I would argue that you can't use LCD screens as full time monitors, because they have bad PQ and ugly contrast, which is always noticeable compared to the fake burn-in issue.
@@GamerWordDotNet ya but the built in features don't really protect it very well. And the screensaver isn't going to do anything when it's not active. So that time spent using your desktop for everyday use will be detrimental for burn in. I have this exact screen and it will burn in an image in as little as 80 hours of the same static image.
If you want an awesome tv for a monitor just get a Samsung QLED. They are almost as good image quality, they are cheaper, they have 4k 120hz, VRR, GSYNC, and don't have to worry about burn in.
@@jcdentonunatco Used OLED with a PC for 4+ years, no burn-in. Sold the set a great price when upgrading to my 77" CX. Couldn't imagine using anything less.
@@GamerWordDotNet well sounds like you probably were very careful about not using it on the desktop very often. I use my OLED with my PC too, just not for everyday desktop use
JC Denton , I hide the desktop icons and the taskbar with Win10 set to dark-mode and a black background as well as moving static windows around around while working. You can feel the warm areas of the screen when lit by a bright program window after a short while so just shift them.
No, the 49” Q80T is not equivalent to this TV, because unlike the bigger models, it has a 60hz panel and no Freesync support
It has freesync but not gsync or vrr
So Tech Chap, whats the update on preference using this vs the 38 ultrawide? Nice job on the review!
You can use a service remote to turn off the dimming. Think it voids the warranty but it turns the tv into a beast.
So, the kind of Moms that always shouted "Don't sit so close to the TV" just wanted to stop us from living our lives, right?
Everyone talking about burn in meanwhile I’ve been using this set up for 6 months gaming more than ever. No burn in 🤷♂️.
I am using my B7 for gaming for 2.5 years no burn in.
What pc specs are you using... currently waiting for my CX48 to come in.
David Durrani You can’t tell how many years it will take to have burn in. Rtings tests are running the tv’s for 20 hours a day and displaying the same content. No one does that in real life.
David Durrani I think you can hide the hud in fifa. Do that if you are really concerned.
Im not saying you will get burn in but people need to realise that even if you dont have it now you might get it later. But they are for sure better than plasmas when it comes to burn in. I had a C8 which i basically abused and left the playstation menus on for a long time without playing etc and after 1 year it was still fine, i sold it a while back though because i got a C9 instead
Hey, great review! May I ask what the dimensions of your desk are? I'm considering getting one but I'm worried it may be too big for my desk.
I use the LG C9 55" with a 3090. It's mounted on the wall about 4 inches above my desk and I have a very deep desk. There are still some minor issues with the new LG firmware (5.00.03) but GSYNC / 120Hz / HDR all work now. I recommend auto hiding the windows task bar, and using Wallpaper Engine for a always in in motion background and turn a screen saver on. After ~7 months of use, no burn in and I'm using this thing like 6-10 hrs a day. Text is fine, surprisingly so given the large size and PPI. Games look absolutely ridiculous.
