Corrections: Marantz informed me the side panels are actually metal, not plastic. Both the AV 10 and Amp 10 come with a 5 year warranty, not 3 year as I misstated in the video..
So glad you are putting these on your bench! Can't wait for the measurements and review!
Although this stack is out of the reach of most of us, it is exciting (if only vicariously) to experience it. Fortunately the tech developed by statement pieces such as this often trickles down to more affordable products over time
Way nice Gene 😇
This is insane, when the boxes that the amps come in are that huge, we are onto something, exciting stuff 🤩
Can't wait to see the opinions and verdict. Way to go guys 😍
It was nice hearing you mention Hugo. I hope he’s doing well. The last update I read from you was sometime in 2020 where you mentioned that you really haven’t heard from him much. But that he’s ok.
I always hit that like button. 👍 @Audioholics rocks!
Another great video I'm now waiting for your test review before I push the buy it now for both these items in the UK
just by looking at them, I see *Quality*
Oooh cant wait for the directional lfe debate!
Thanks for the video
Take my money... Oh wait. Not enough.
Epic video as always.
Nice video! Also, love the guys in the background. :)
BTW, I wished Anthem would look at Marantz and Arcam when it came to connectors on the back (read: gold plated)
Kirk and Spock! My brother who passed in 2019 was huge TOS fan. So Gene is a gem!
I like the new look of these componenets compared to the older more curved look. Like you I I wish they had kept more legacy inputs such as component- looking at back looks like they also did away with the multi channel analog audio inputs. Bet it sounds awesome. Looking forward for review.
Gene, awesome preview. so far testing the x3800 tactile output it looks like it's LFE + bass from all other channels. I was hoping for an option to choose LFE only. That's what tactile transducer community is looking for. Maybe you could mention it to Denon/marantz when you run your measurements by them. Thanks!
Humm … my ten year old Marantz AV7701 has an LFE only option in the bass management setup. Looks like the “new” Marantz cost more but gives you less! The toroidal power transformer in my MM7055 (5-channels, 140wpc) is twice as big as that puny transformer in the 16 channel rig. Not to mention there’s no digital switching noise on the outputs of my “old” bipolar amp and no inductors required to filter the digital switching noise out of the output. Class D … how to go cheap and get away with unrealistic (B/S) power specifications!!
I have this setup in my shopping cart and debating if I should pull the trigger, but this review and these videos provided that little push I needed to go over the edged. We lost power earlier this week which took out my AV8802A (parried with 2 MM8807s) and was debating on fixing it (which I don't to do myself or deal with sending to someone and waiting weeks to get back on line), replacing it with an AV8805A, or upgrade the whole system to AV10/AMP10. Anyway, this series pushed my over the edge to bite the bullet and do the upgrade.
@@KevinFlory993 Dew it! Appreciate if you purchase from our channel partner to support Audioholics.
Hi Gene, I have been watching your channel for many years now and I must tell you that what you are doing is the very best. I LOVE your enthusiasm!!! You are so genuine and so excited in this video. It really shows. I thought it was also really cool that your two buddies stood behind you for this video. You went back to your roots for this one. I also think that it was very respectful of you to mention Hugo at the end of this video the way you did. I must tell you that I really like all of the newer guys that you have brought onto the channel- and that I very much enjoy all of their solo videos. You have assembled a great supporting team. Gene, I always liked Hugo. What happened to him? I hope he is doing well. Would you consider doing a video with him as your special guest? I think that would be nice and appropriate. Will these new Marantz separates remove your beloved SR8015 out of your equipment rack? I have the SR8015 also, and I am really enjoying it. I can't wait to see all of your forthcoming videos about these Marantz separates. I especially am looking forward to the Dirac and Audyssey videos. Best Wishes to you, Theo, Mathew, Andrew, and Mr. Dunn!!! I'm sure there must be many other special people behind the scenes that I would like to say Thank You to, also. God Bless all of you. I plan to keep listening. Take Care, Ernest
Hugo disappeared for a while and I see he's back on Instagram now. People asked him to collaborate with Audioholics again and he said he's too busy with real estate. I reached out, never heard back. That ship has sailed but I wish him well. We had great times, lots of laughs.
@@Audioholics Thank You for the reply, Gene. I also wish him well.
Listened at Milano hi-fidelity 2023, Milan, Italy on April 1, 2023.
They sounded great!
Thank you for the great overview! Cannot wait to see how these measure on the bench, especially the AV10 processor. Any idea when to expect your measurements?
This video spells ........W.A.N.T!
The reason a piano and a clarinet sound different, even when playing the same note, is the harmonic signature that each instrument has layered ontop of that bass note. In a surround sound setting, where we are bass managing, we can reroute some of the lower harmonic content from a surround channel into our bass management regime. It’s important for harmonic reinforcement to properly time align.
Which means all the delays of bass management matter, including the group delay of our home speakers and subs, and those of the mastering studio as well. With modern subs our group delay and the harmonic timing might exceed the carefully optimized delays of older technology in the mastering studio. But we can only do our best on our end to hit perfection, and then hope our DSP can be clever enough to bridge the gap.
Whether to do mono bass, zone bass, directional bass, or run the speakers full range. I feel the we need to remember that outside of the bass region, there are higher frequencies receiving harmonic reinforcement from the bass region, which may be sonically benefited by being channel specific in some circumstances, but may overwhelming be benefitted by overcoming room modes through other means, such as a mono mix, or subs located in different locations than the surround channels. Really I feel we should shape the room around these needs, rather than our needs around the room. Forming the room in a matter to align our optimal sub locations with our optimal surround locations to yield perfect harmonic alignment across the frequency spectrum, and perfect modal response at the listening position.
Great work with the channel... enjoying it! What Interconnectors would be good options for these units? And any recommendations for speaker wire? Running B&W 804 D3s. Thanks everyone!
I’m seriously considering getting both of these, just trying to get my finances in order and I’ll be good to go
Thanks
THANKS GENE!
I love that they are made in Japan. 👍🏻😎
Great review Gene. I can't afford these but I can't afford a Ford GT 700k super car. Doesn't mean I am not wishing I had one. 👍😁😜
For that price i would expect audessy with a proper calibration mic and metal stand.
I would expect it not to be plastic.
Finally, a pre/pro with extra outputs to satisfy Atmos "AND" Auro3D setups. BUT, it's $7000!!! I don't need 8K Video!!!! Plus, I agree on the multi-sub, I have 4 x 15" subs, one in each corner, I suppose if you could have 'both' worlds, a MONO output for LFE and the also 4 other outputs to decide what frequency range gets crossed over for the 'not so low' bass using the 4 Bass Zones, I suppose maybe that could be interesting...
In your last shot, I can see that the matt finish on the faceplates show finger prints, which my 8802A doesn't.
Hugo! Bring back Hugo for a little cameo , just for nostalgia
Hugo signed up to be one of the first to colonize Mars as part of the Elon Musk initiative. He's researching ways to retain his muscle mass in low gravity environments.
Sweet vid. Now question is avm 90 or av10 ??? Hmmm
Just a note Gene- you'd said no processor supports the full 48gbps, but actually Anthem supports the full 48gbps on their HDMI boards. Or they do on the AVM90 at least. It was advertised as such and I was so surprised that I checked with their customer support to confirm as much around Christmas.
Hmm I will confirm this w Anthem engineering and get back to you. Thx
@@Audioholics Please do! Now that I think about it, maybe I asked them about it much longer ago than Christmas. Time's flying by too fast. I can't seem to find it mentioned anywhere on their site now, and some google searches only brought up forum chatter (which made it sound like Arcam might use the same 48gbps board, as well)
Think I'm finally ready to sell a kidney!
Great video, Gene! How does the AMP10 compare to Legacy Audio’s ICEedge amps, specifically the iV series? Legacy has multiple 110 connections and a 220 version available to provide plenty of current on some models(Ultra, maybe). I currently have a Legacy PowerBloc4 into 4 ohm Legacy FOCUS SEs and Marquis HD center. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks again!
Legacy will have more power but less channel density.
You are correct that it is a good value for that much power but then again it is class D, which by definition are not linear, plus all of those switch mode power supplies are also noisy little buggers, 90% of that 7k cost has to be in filters. Like the car guys say, there is no replacement for displacement, give me a 150 lbs linear power supply with class AB amps and I will run 220 volts to it if needed.
Linear amps and supply's aren't appropriate for high channel counts. SOTA class D can perform as good or better than the best linear amps and do so much more efficiently and with less weight.
@@Audioholics - LOL, MORE BULL! How, exactly, are “linear” amps inappropriate for multi-channel? If you need 16 channels then two Marantz MM8003 amps are superior in every measurable and audible respect than a 16 channel class D amp.
hello is it worth switching from 8805\A to marantz av 10 are the audible differences evident ?? av 10 is much more defined musical three-dimensional than the 8805A ???
Well beyond my A/B budget😮 but very sweet😊
I got myself the cinema 60.. i run 7.2 settup and love it
Since you mentioned Hugo, what is he up to these days? Great video by the way.
Mission to colonize Mars
@@Audioholics first one aboard Elon’s ship.
What is the difference between maratnz pm and maratnz amp and av and which one is better for music
Had IcePower caught up to HypeX or even Purifi?
How is that 16 channel amp so light? My 2 and 5 channel Anthems both weigh more than that.
$7000.00 for class D amp.? Noo way.... Great review. Thanks, Yashin
Good class D costs more than comparable linear design.
@@Audioholics - BULL!
My Amp 10 is about 1 month old and I stii get a slight burning smell while in use. Is this normal?
Nice looking gear, but for $7k, I think I'd be wanting a metal faceplate. Unfortunately for me, Marantz and Denon are too dark sounding. They roll off the high end too much for my ears. I wish Yamaha would get back into the home theater separates market. Nonetheless, kudos to Marantz for releasing separates like this. If they'd also put out a scaled down version with half the channels at somewhere around half the price, they'd really have something.
When are we going to see the successor to the av7706
Since the amp is power line limited it seems like we would be better served by two 8-channel or four 4-channel amps on independent circuits.
Excellent point! No way you can get 3200 watts out from 1875 watts in!! Seven channels at 200 Wpc would be the absolute max possible taking into account some percentage of losses in the amp circuitry. Give me two MM8003 bipolar amps (150 Wpc all channels driven) .. way better sound quality AND power!
@Audioholics: Do you think AMP 10 is as good as Trinnov Amplitude 16? Is the buold up structure the same? Both use (different?) ICE power moduls.
No, the Trinnov has more power capability but it comes at a much higher price.
@@Audioholics "Only" more power or is it better in general?
Will there be a review of this against Anthem Avm 90 as mentioned in the past as one of the potential videos for a comparison?
Not direct compare, but we are reviewing avm90 as well.
@@Audioholics Thank you Gene for the amazing work
I wonder if Denon itself will ever do separates again.
Likely not
Wish Marantz would offer a class D AVR ..
I’d love to but this is to costly.
Hopefully I can figure out decent cheaper solutions.
Perhaps the Marantz 7706+ … idk..
Perhaps the 8015 replacement cinema 30 🤞🏻
@@shiranRSA oooooo that would be amazing!!! Good point! I forget technically the cinema 40 shouldn’t be the flagship! Here’s to hoping 🤞🏼
Shane Lee tested this combo recently. He didn’t like the high sound. The high sound was more like shshshshshsh rather than sssssss (more detailed). Can you look into this?
yep will be measuring the amp to see if I can determine what he's hearing.
That setup is straight up man cave material!
Is the remote backlit? Hubba hubba on this beeyut!
I've been into A/V equipment since the 80s and now find myself being priced out. I might be the only one willing to say it, but this stuff isn't worth the amount being charged. I understand R/D cost money, new technology cost money . But nowhere near this much. Just because you can get some people to pay crazy high prices don't mean you should. There's more regular people then rich. More money will be made that way ,which seems to be the goal.
High channel counts cost big money. If you don't need 16Ch go with lower models. It's not for everyone.
@@Audioholics evidently not
Can I use an extension cable when doing Audyssey calibration? Or will that affect the performance? My pre-amp is just a few feet too far from listening position.
yes i've done this but make sure it's a quality cable.
@@Audioholics thank you Gene, any recommendations?
Do these "flagship" AVR's/Processors have better phono stages than say the less expensive Cinema 40, 50, Denon X4800H?
Good question, will find out
Beyond my means
Hugo Shout out
Tech looks impressive. If I had a dedicated space I would be tempted. I definitely want to see how it stacks up in the space against the Big boys, Trinov and Anthem offerings.
Avm70 has a noisy and misplaced fan. So no more Anthem for me.
What happened to Hugo?
He passes away for the channel..... I think...
Upgrade option? High grade PLASTIC? At this price point? SERIOUSLY?
Read the correction note. Not plastic.
The price has gotta come down , its a processor with no amplification , Im a buyer but I cant part with 7K for what it is , if they want to lower the price to where it makes sence im in
BEST OF THE BEST > TEST RESULS ??
Hugo…. Where are the days…
Fist thing as usual he gets into bass😅
A “Dante” connection between them should have been great, 1 cable instead of 16.
That would be nice
The pre is outputting Analog, Dante is digital. Wouldn't make sense.
@@drdelewded Yes you are correct Dante is digital 👌🏼 that’s why you only need one cable.
Dante is a great way to connect processor and amps.
@@BigStreetCinema But then you'd need to put the DACs into the amp, sorta defeats the purpose of the processor. Unless you mean DAC in processor. Then an ADC to Dante in the processor THEN another ADC in the amp... thats a lot of extra $$, size and nonsense.
Actually, that's not even a thing. The pre amp to amps need to remain analog. AFAIK
If the processor was just doing the decode work without the preamp section, I guess that's a thing. But then you'd need to add preamp section to the amp AND the DAC
Where's Hugo?
Hugo was recently cast as Ben Stiller's stunt double in Dodgeball 2.
7k is a lot for an amplifier.
Somebody needs to introduce douk audio to these guys, as that company makes most of their money from selling lights and indicators for audio equipment. It does nothing for performance but trust me marantz, people still like guages and lights indicators etc. I know they were trying to make it aesthetically clean but............no.
Just get a wii U Jean
I think the industrial design of the new digital Marantz products is flat out ugly! Glad I have all the pre-United Audio Marantz gear I’ll ever need.
Actually I think these new pieces look stunning in person. Samsung has NOTHING to do with Marantz. You're confusing them with Harman.
samsung🤣
@@Audioholics- right. Fixed. I’m pissed off at Harman too so …….
$7,000?! Plastic? That’s unacceptable
Read the pinned note. I was mistaken. Felt like plastic but Marantz told me it's metal.
@@Audioholics ok ... roger that! I feel better ... lol
Man,, I wish I had $14,000.00!
Go fund me! Please!
What's in the Booxxxxxx!?
HAHA! I kept hearing that too.😄
Can the el cheapo industrial design get any tackier? Imagine if McIntosh changed their basic look every 5 ~ 10 years based on which cheap jap outfit recently bought them out!? After 50 years as a loyal customer, no more Marantz for me? They break and near impossible if not actually impossible to get fixed. My top of the line SR14EX (back in the day) dumped two of its 5 output amps which I had to pay to get repaired, never mind the unit retailed for $4000 when introduced ca 2000. Now I have a MM7055 that just started going into protect mode for no reason. To complicate matters, the only repair center in the southwest is in the sh*thole city of Austin, TX.
