I updated some of the distortion measurements in my bench test since I posted this supplementary video. I had an improper setting in my test gear that resulted in slightly elevated distortion levels (ie. 96dB vs 101 dB SINAD). Although this is inaudible, I wanted to update to properly reflect just how clean the preamp section is in the Marantz AV 10.
You can read the updated report here: www.audioholics.com/av-preamp-processor-reviews/marantz-av-10-15.4ch-processor

Would love to hear you, Gene, and Matt Poes' review of the Bass Management features of the AV10. Specifically, how it would relate to running 4 corner multi-sub. If all 4 subs are working as one, using phase and delay for better room mode response, etc. How would it work to then use this "sub zone" routing? Sounds like it's an "either/or" proposition, not both? It seems there's a lot to cover since this is "new ground" for Bass Management, etc. Which would be 'better'? Can you take advantage of both?

Can't tell you how pleased I am to see the iconic ole US manufacturers name "Marantz" making a statement measuring product like this !!!
Also I want to thank Audioholics, along with Amir at ASR for doing and publishing these in-depth measuring reports. Just a couple years back the AVR & Pre/Pro products were the
red-headed stepchildren of audio. Most measured quite poorly and had audible weaknesses
because of that. But in recent years the manufacturers feet have been held to the fire with
the results being things like this Marantz along with some very improved lower cost AVR's from both Denon and Marantz. I'm sure other builders won't let the moss grow over their
toes and in a few years we should see these type of improved products becoming the norm rather than the exception.
With the explosion of multich sources on streaming and SOTA optical products along with newer software like Atmos, Sony's 3d, and Auro, the future for music reproduction's so bright I gotta wear shades.

Nice! I've had one since January. I have 16 channels of class d in 2 enclosures so I didn't go with the amp10 but I think I made the right call. Dirac vs audyssey will be interesting. I've been testing all sorts of dirac vs audyssey(multeq-x) and the bottom line is that audyssey does not do a great job with subs regardless of the 4 preouts. If I use 4 preouts it won't tighten my bass very much. If I do a little tuning with a minidsp and feed it as 1 sub it makes it so much better. Audyssey is ok if you are flat to begin with, but dirac does a much better job at correcting large inconsistencies

It’s so interesting that we now have this 4 zone bass control emerging. With most atmos installs aiming at 4 ceiling channels. And 5.1 being basically 4 channels plus a center. It’s like the second coming of quadraphonic.
    Imagine a 4.4.4 system.
Imagine how that could be easily packaged in sets, so you get a sub a tower and a ceiling speaker all packaged and sold in the same box. I know it’s a cookie idea, but sometimes money talks, and if it makes economical sense for manufacturers and conaumers to package a trio of speakers like that, then who knows maybe we’ll turn to a quadraphonic world of 4.4.4 with phantom centers and incredible bass.
I could even see the form factor of the speaker cabinets conforming to the idea of packing all 3 together. Maybe even making for tall subwoofer’s.
Or maybe compact pairs of satellite speakers sold with subs. Two sets being enough for a 4.0.2 (alternative to 5.1) while 1 set being enough for a stereo setup. Which allows for flexible inventory for manufacturers, and flexible upgrade paths for consumers. The art being the ability to pull off a compact satellite speaker thats both small enough to be happy on the ceiling, and large enough to be happy to listen to. Which undoubtedly would lend itself to leaning heavily on the subs to help carry the midbass.
Which is kinda the idea, that 4.4.4 would have allot more budget spent on subs than a 5.1 or 7.4.2. The idea really lends itself to having copious amounts of bass coverage relative to the other channels in the system.
But maybe they’re not woosy satellites, maybe they’re sleek towers that when on the ceiling look like beams or rails. That esthetic may be even better than port holed in ceilings. Especially if you let the wife paint them.
A system could even go up the wall and across the ceiling in one continuous cabinet. So like two square arches that look like architectural supports. You probably would need to custom order the exact dimensions, but maybe still the basic elements could be in a single standardized box. In North America most everyone’s ceilings are 8-9’ tall. So a box of 8’ speakers, for both wall and ceiling would just need a few special order trim pieces to customize for deviations. Maybe even have the packaging materials double as acoustic panels. And of course you got an 8’ tall subwoofer in there too and a bottle of aspirin for the UPS guy lol

LFE Bass Routing - Have watched a lot of your videos and find the reviews useful. One thing you got incorrect in this one here is the claim that this feature is a first for a Japanese receiver. I would like to point out that the lack of LFE Bass Routing in previous models of Denon/Marantz was precicely the reason I ended up buying the Yamaha RX-A2080 couple years back. In fact I have a Yamaha RX-595a fron 1997 which also is does LFE Bass Routing out of the box. I wanted Marantz/Denon for a change but was shocked to find out what I considered a basic feature. I did call them and inform of this and perhaps it was heard finally. FYI, in Yamaha, all you do for LFE Bass Routing is to setup Subwoofer as NO and Front Left/Right as Large and the receiver will do the right thing and route LFE bass into them. PS. Even Onkyo/Pioneer I believe does the same thing but don't hold me to it as I'm not 100% confident about that.

No Yamaha product to date does LFE routing to un-bass managed channels UNLESS you turn off the subwoofer channel. In that case, it will route LFE to the front main channels. Onkyo/Pioneer is the same. NOBODY has this feature right now other than Denon/Marantz and if you step up to Trinnov or Storm Audio.

@@franklintorres1440 For me all day long I will go with the denon. The money saved will allow you purchase superior amplification or more importantly speakers with the money saved. Peopl talk about balanced connections being superior.....balanced connections only matter when running long distances between processor and amp. The denon has 4 balanced xlr which can be used for 4 subs which may have a reasonable distance from the A1H or AV10 which ever you choose. Also note that you can assign the 4 XLR on denon to be front and center channel outputs if you wish. I currently run my fronts from xlr 1&2 to a class d amp for my fronts. XLR 3&4 to my 2 subs that have xlr input. And use RCA for subs 3&4 in my setup.
Dont forget you can also reassign all the amps in the denon too. I am using the 2 front amps in my A1H to bi-amp my center channel.

I would consider myself happy with values well over 100 dB SINAD, 'clean' THD+N at 4 to 6V output, in full frequency spectrum on both RCA and XLR outputs (XLR outputs which are not in fact true balanced outputs = cheap approach, as you said also). Also...80 dB channel separation? This is an allover cheap, compromise tech solution implementation in AV10, not worthy of a flagship name.
