With the New Jubilee coming soon, new units of this style are unfortunately becoming more and more rare. To those of you that have thought about purchasing or just to those that wanted to see what the process looks like from unboxing, to wiring, to listening, this video is for you. One of the very last of this style Jubilees and we are pulling it out and putting it together just for you!

Speaking as a relatively new Jubilee owner since September of 2020. Everything in this video is right on. Cory and crew are fantastic, all I had to do was make a phone call, give a CC number and they appeared at my home. I feel very fortunate to have the Jubilee's.

Amazing is an overused but appropriate word for a Klipsch legacy product! I assume the imaging will be terrific with a 2-way, time-aligned design. What is the low end response to this? Most of your products seem to roll off below 35 Hz.

    • @TopShelfAudio
      @TopShelfAudio  Před 2 lety

      An excellent decision.
Better than the amp powering a passive crossover which soaks-up up the timing and dynamics.
You can still run a SET amp, the x/over is already done and the amp controls the driver directly - like God intended.
Of course another amp drives the other driver - even more flexibility.
I always discard any passive crossovers, programme my v expensive DSP to the speakers’ requirements, feed multiple power amps and connect directly to the drive units (actively).
I would never go back to passive crossovers - they suck the hell out of the music.

Or even a light bulb....a 12V bulb would work fine.. that would start limiting the level (compreson) to about 14 Watts. At some point after that the bulb will blow and protect the driver. IF you use a resistor, you need a RDX90 polyswitch in parallel with it. It is a current limiting device and should be about right for the 3 inch driver. You can always go with a 24V bulb. Yes, protection is important.

theoretically this is correct. however do some calculations on two windings with a 4" diameter wire. Even if the windings were tight and it worked as if it could be an issue, the frequency in which the treble would start rolling off would be approaching 1 khz on the bass bin, at a 6 db per octave slope. Seriously doubt you could ever tell the difference in this situation even if you actually measured.

I know your not asking me but...
      Apples to oranges .
The. Cornwalls which i own the mk3s are rated at 103 dp sensitivity and a fairly stable impedence of 8 ohms.
I dont know the exact specs on your fine focals but im sure they arent above 92 db.
What it breaks down to is what your powering them with and the music you listen to.
Me I prefer pure Class A and the stable impeadence helps my Solid State Plinius Sa 102 125 watt class A remain in the sweet spot . Its a very versatile amplifier with a class ab or A switch .
I also have a Cary set integrated pure class A with Western Electric 300b at 8 watts per channel.
And a 80 pound Dared VP 845 18 watt pure class A integrated with nos 1942 RCA 845 tubes had to go to Viet Nam to get these on like new condition.
All my listening is largely small accoustic sets with Jazz or soft contemporary and alternative rock.
Female singers like Natalie Merchant, Eva Cassidy, Amy Winehouse, Etta James, Patricia Barber, Stevie Knicks, Amy Mann.
Music from Van Morrison, Nat King Cole, Johnny Hartman, John Coltrane, Bill Frisell, Bill Evans. Fiona Hawkins, Beth Orton, Dianna Krall, Lucinda Williams Dave Brubeck,
And bands like Mazzy Star or todays Cigaretts after sex for dreamy atmospheric soundscapes.
The Klipsch Cornwalls high sensitivity allow the loww wattage of these set tube amps to drive these speakers effortlessly which only accentuates all the beautiful instrumental tones and singers vocals while presenting it all on a visceral 3d soundstage! And as previously stated the stable impeadence of the Cornwall is what helps my solid state Plinius stay in its class A mode as its current delivery can drive virtually any speaker load
So really it all depends on your musical tastes .
I also have magneplaners, JBLs, Mirage speakers some for hometheatre and some for classic rock with class ab amplifiers.
Not sure a comparison is appropriiate.

Speakons are nice for stuff that is taken down and put back up often such as bass guitar cabinets and PA speakers. For permanent installation, speakers such as these, like what you'd see in an actual pro cinema, that is not the norm at all. Look at the back of a huge JBL 5742 stack or even the 300 pound JBL 5674 and you'll see the same thing. Krix and Dolby uses some proprietary connectors but even they don't use Speakons.
Terminal / barrier strips are really secure and it's one less connection which theoretically means less noise / loss. You're not gaining anything at all by screwing the wire onto a Speakon connector then plugging that into the cabinet. The only thing I dislike about these in particular is that the strip is a little narrow, it works fine for bare wires but it doesn't even fit standard spade connectors. A little more space and we'd be golden but as it stands, bare wire is the only option, which sucks for the guys who want to use nicer pre-terminated wires.
That being said, the new Jubilees coming out later this fall will have some super fancy terminal cups that are more in line with the current Heritage models and should look super nice. They only cost over twice as much.
