  • Need to change the spark plug on your four stroke motocross or enduro dirt bike? My 2012 Kawasaki KX450F could use a new spark plug so thought I'd share a video with fellow CZcamsrs :D Enjoy the video, let me know what you think and anything you'd like to add. I’ve got some issues with this bike bogging on open throttle - I need to inspect these areas, but have you had any issues like that ?

    • @EnduroSkills
      @EnduroSkills  Před 5 lety +2

      Nah, she pulls like a beast at wot but that sucks. I'd make sure air filter is clean, put a new plug in and even test compression while you have everything taken off. If everything checks out then I'd be looking at testing the coil pack and visually inspecting the wire for damage. Since the bike is fuel injected and the problem started recently and only at wot then spark would be the first place to look at. Assuming you're running ethanol free 91 or 94

    my bike is getting harder to start a used to be two to three kicks now it takes a lot more and sometimes I got to give it a little gas right at the end of the kick its a 2012 I cleaned the air filter and change the oil and still does not start easy once it's warmed up starts first do you think changing the spark plug will help

      Changing the spark plug will definitely show some improvement and should be done on regular intervals but that symptom points more towards the valves needing to be adjusted. I'd change the plug out, make sure gap and torque is good then just hook up the fuel tank to see how she runs. If its all good then you're set but if it is the valves needing a shimming then you just unplug the tank and connector and you're ready to take the valve cover off. Hopefully this helped, good luck 👌

    Do you need to disassemble the connectors to change the plug or can you do without.

    • @EnduroSkills
      @EnduroSkills  Před 3 lety

      There's the gas tank connector, could maybe shift tank 90 degrees to get access but removing tank definitely makes life easier

    what is that slim black wire on spark plug?

    • @EnduroSkills
      @EnduroSkills  Před 4 lety

      Thin black wire gets wrapped around the ignition coil. It's an aftermarket hour meter that picks up an electrical signal through induction off the ignition coil while the bike is running to monitor the time you've ridden. Helps to simplify maintenance and I highly recommend one of these at minimum on any toy. Trail tech vapour would give you way more parameters but also way more expensive and more work to set up

    what's the trick on getting the spark plug cap off? I pulled hard and it's not popping off. Do you have to turn it or something?

    • @EnduroSkills
      @EnduroSkills  Před 6 lety

      Micco The Service Dog yeah turn it a bit, groove needs to line up if I remember correctly. using a flathead to pry up also helps

    • @miccotheservicedog5559
      @miccotheservicedog5559 Před 6 lety

      Ugh it broke already, had to order a new cap. It would not come out no matter what I did.

    • @EnduroSkills
      @EnduroSkills  Před 6 lety +1

      Damn, it probably seized up in there

    • @miccotheservicedog5559
      @miccotheservicedog5559 Před 6 lety

      Enduro Skills - yeah I don’t think the last owner ever changed the plug while he had it. Rubber cap was really stuck in there. Oh well, she’s getting a new cap and plug.

    • @miccotheservicedog5559
      @miccotheservicedog5559 Před 6 lety

      Enduro Skills - I might put some lube on the cap this time, maybe that will keep it from sticking so bad in the hole.
      That sure sounded strange! Lol

    Damn 2 stroke is so much easier

    • @EnduroSkills
      @EnduroSkills  Před 4 lety +1

      Yeah way easier but also needs to be done more often because of oil fouling the plugs. On 4 strokes it's good to do it at least once a year but can go a few years without changing them without major power loss depending on how often you ride. I'm sure the newer fuel injected 2 strokes plugs should hold up better though.
