Is it crazy how xbox are the only ones that gives a damn about game preservation and backwards compatibility while sony and nintendo don’t, Shame on playstation & nintendo for not caring.
Too true and I will even say, their solution isn't perfect or as great as it could be, but it's far better, than practically nothing from the other 2 console makers.
Yup that's why their first party games comes on disk and hellblade 2 has a physical release as well. Very good preservation.
They care enough to have you pay for them

It’s great to see Sarah’s first big move to quell the fears of those of us with a 20 year old library on their consoles. I find it particularly hilarious Ponies are using the all digital future to attack Xbox when it’s Sony deleting peoples paid content rather than renew a license.
The Tsaltnami is coming…
HEAVY HEAVY Facts my dude
Simple Sarah is an incompetent post turtle and no one wants your shit dead platform.
that is why she should tell sony with our money . we want a disc version of the games. they can delete digital versions of the games off your drive. but they can not delete the game disc in your hand. unless they block the install\copy disc option from the system. when i was with xbox i was all digital . until they made me change my acc password. and wait 13 hours for ther system to update the change. that was 13 hours on my one day off a week i could not play any of my xbox games on the series x. until i was able to log in again. but i got a ps5 installed my games did the updates. the next week . my internet was out for a week. and guess what . my one day off i had no problem puting the disc in . installing the game and had a great time . playing horizon on my ps5.
@@cdkrabs You can play Xbox games offline after you have followed the same steps you did for your ps5. If you are unable to login to your account on your ps5, you will have said the same issue.
There is a place for preservation for both digital and physical copies, especially with digital become more popular, it's important to be able to access your content on multiple devices.
Everyone says Xbox is dead and infinite is dead, it takes me 30 sec in the looking for group to find people who want to play tactical slayer, I play on pc just pointing out that Xbox is very much alive

It would be amazing, however the huge challenge for something like WoW is just the lack of buttons on a controller, you’d have to get M&K & plug them into your console

I bet that this new team is working on an specialised Xbox/x64 emulator for ARM. The FTC leak confirmed they were looking at ARM and they are going all in with the Snapdragon X Elite on the PC side. If this Xbox handheld is an ARM PC/Xbox hybrid (with Steam) Microsoft can take my money now!!
ARM is the future of gaming, X86 brute force has never worked and is breaking AAA games at an alarming high rate the recent years, its unsustainable. PC x86 gaming is dead, handhwld hybrids based of ARM are the future, mix it with XR glasses and its a wrap
☝🏾And I approve of this message.
You're half right, MS is getting ready to put all their slop on OEM hardware so they need to make sure it works. No one wants a gimped Steam Deck (that won't have Steam) with a Shitbox logo slapped on it.
Me too! Would be better than a Steam Deck!
The fact that She is focus on Backwards compatibly is fantastic, the only reason i own an Xbox is to play old games. If they can get more old games to work in BC then Xbox will become way more successful. Lean into being the console that preserves your childhood games, and not destroying them with awful remakes that cater to modern audiences. Give me Def Jam Vendetta, the old Wrestling games, Nba games, old RPG games, PS3/Xbox360, PS2/OG Xbox era games.
they might bring more old games. but they might do it like nintendo. only with subcription/gamepass....
With windows being incorporated in the Sega Dreamcast and those two company working together for years it would also be a fantastic thing to let Dreamcast games into that library.. Maybe one day if Microsoft were to acquire Sega this could be awesome.. After all there were some great arcade games on the Dreamcast which ran at one quarter of the power of the actual arcade machine and the Dreamcast did this exceptionally well..
Then again from recent news Sega are remaking some of their older classics ie, Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi ect ect..
It would be nice.. wouldn't it.

since we already lost nintendo wii / wii u / 3ds store. shows that game preservation is more important than ever
As an Xbox user, I 100% want more backwards compatibility. Ever since the Wii can play GameCube games just by putting the disc in, I think it should always be a thing that most consoles don't do nowadays.
I'm playing KOTOR right now and would love to get into Morrowind. So having more games accessible through backwards compatibility will make things way better for consumers like me (until my internet crashes).
I really need to stop with these essays. 😂😢
I know my copy of Baldurs Gate 3 deluxe is going to be on 4 disks when it arrives and be fully updated when it shows up. It will be wild seeing it download fully from the disks
I would really want that xbox handheld held. I've been a console guy my whole life, but I finally saw the light and built my first PC. I don't see myself buying a traditional console again, but I would love the xbox handheld. Recently, I got a Rog Ally, and the thing is really impressive. I play older titles that I missed over the years running at 100 plus fps. You can't beat it.
Great video and a fresh things to just have you talking about things you care about!
More fundamental than that, we should be keeping an eye on consoles as pc users. it informs us how good our ports are likely to be based on how much console systems are catching up.
Consoles can do whatever tf they want, it's not going to affect us PC gamers and our ports. If a game is badly optimized on consoles that doesn't mean it'll be on PC and vice versa.
@@DragonOfTheMortalKombat Ehhh that's not really true. Each generation of gaming console hardware sets a level of fidelity, performance, optimization to be pushed forward through that gen. The majority of well funded studios and publishers make their games intended to play on playstation and xbox consoles and PCs, with either a majority of rhe sales from consoles, or at least a sizable chunk of the sales. We are not going to see major or fundamental changes for a PC version of a game that's being made compared to its Xbox and Playstation counterparts because the game at a fundamental level needs to be playable on the other systems.
Of course there are outliers to this, but on average, PC ports hit a cap of improved fidelity and performance because at a certain point it's almost like they're making completely different games.
Another thing to keep in mind is that game engines that these games run off of are made to run on consoles, not just PCs. You can only push a game engine so far until it starts to show it's age and needs to be updated or rebuilt. The PC user base is way too varied and is difficult for a current gen game being built to target a specific level of power a machine has , to target a baseline or soft ceiling for the game on the PC side, so that's something consoles allow studios to do, while no do7bt being able to probably safely develop their game to give some other bells and whistles and a decent nit better in fidelity/performance for higher end PCs to take advantage of. But it's going off of what the consoles can do.
We would have a sizable decrease in innovation within the gamesphere without consoles, in-terms of impressive and demanding features, fidelity, dynamic and reactive experiences/gameplay, quicker and larger rendering and building game worlds with either larger worlds in scope or deeper smaller scaled worlds/games
oh my god please please please include Brute Force in the backwards compatibility catalogue! game's kinda silly but we used to have so much fun with it back in the day.
Alex have you seen Ross' call-to-action video where he's talking about game preservation? you could find it interesting. the video is from channel "Accursed Farms" and titled "The largest campaign ever to stop publishers destroying games"

I want Red Dead Redemption, Sonic Unleashed, and Banjo-Kazooie. Because right now, Xbox is the only platform you can buy these games on.
Added some *QoL* *improvements* for my Steam Deck 512 LCD over the weekend….
*Redream:* For some reason, this won’t launch from the EmuDeck/EmulationStation. I was stuck using Flycast and didn’t like how some games ran from it. I needed Redream to be a standalone emulator but still launch from the Steam library.
My other big issue with Redream is it won’t remember the path if the Dreamcast ROMs were placed in the folder where EmuDeck reads them from. So I had to separate all my Dreamcast games from the big emulation folder. It’s now in the internal storage next to the Redream files and it can now remember the path. Also, changed redream to redream.exe from the actual file name because Steam can’t find it if it’s the former. Then edited the name again in the Steam gaming mode menu.
Dreamcast games plays closer to flawless again. Dreamcast is my 2nd favorite console of all-time and it bothered me that I couldn’t use the emulator I wanted until figuring it out over the weekend. The only thing is the games won’t show up in EmulationStation anymore. I can live with it as long as I can play the games nicely.
*Pluto* *TV:* Since getting the Pluto TV and Tubi apps about 5+ years ago, I rarely use Netflix anymore. Pluto TV is a Paramount service but three of my favorite sitcoms are on there. All I want from it is a channel that plays The Golden Girls all the time. Maybe toss in Martin, The Wonder Years, Doogie Howser MD, and another comfort soup show like Northern Exposure.
Doogie Howser and The Wonder Years used to appear on ABC, so they’re more likely owned by Disney. I do love the Price is Right channel during the Bob Barker era. Watched a little of it the other night. It’s the game show I’d watch if I wasn’t in school or during summer vacation. I can live with the ads as long as it’s free and they have a great selection of content which they do.
I personally don’t need any of them on any streaming service since all I do is use torrents and then save them on my Google Photos using an old Pixel 3 which has unlimited storage saver for life. The limit is 1080p. Everything from Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, Loki, WandaVision, Andor, The Mandalorian, The Boys, Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head, Stranger Things, Cobra Kai, Heels, Ted (2024), Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, they’re all there uploaded on my Google Photos.
This June is going to be packed: House of the Dragon S2 vs. The Boys S4 vs. The Acolyte? I think HOT D wins out. The lore is more interesting. But I do love The Boys.
*Tubi:* If you know movies like I do, Tubi has superior content over Netflix. I have an account and basically keep adding movies on my watchlist. Tons of foreign and softcore porn movies! Has many of the Showa Godzilla movies. Has my Gilligan’s Island too while Pluto TV covers I Love Lucy, Three’s Company, and Married…with Children. Pluto TV + Tubi are practically unbeatable since they’re free. Just need to live with the ads. Rewatched Get Out (2017) again on Tubi the other night.
*Kodi:* So I couldn’t really create an app to add to Steam for Google Photos using Microsoft Edge. So what I’ll do instead is download some movies and TV shows from my Google Photos and save it onto my Deck. Then will have Kodi play it. I was going to use VLC but it doesn’t seem it can be added onto Steam. And Kodi seems to have a much nicer interface.
I have over 1400 movies and tons of TV shows in one of my three Google Photos accounts. But the only one downloaded for the Steam Deck is video game related. It’s a documentary called Console Wars (2020) which can be found on Netflix. I read the Blake J. Harris book back in 2014. I may include 8-Bit Christmas (2021), both live action Sonic movies, and the recent Super Mario movie for it.
I really want a complete set of the animated Shenmue series on my Steam Deck. I use magnetdl and I can’t find it complete. While I love the original Final Fantasy VII game, I didn’t care for Advent Children. That movie dragged. Most of my favorite TV shows and movies are on my multiple Android smartphones.
The other ones added are CZcams, Gmail, Reddit, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge. That’s a total of 10 non Steam apps if you include the 4 other ones mentioned earlier and EmulationStation. I set every app / website launcher to the native resolution of 1280 x 800. Looked through Google images to crop box art for each of them. What really boosted my experience was finally figuring out each controller template. Set most of them to web browser and it’s like browsing from a tablet with the left stick as a scroller and right stick as the mouse.
This thing can be used for a decade if you really wanted to. Just replace the battery every few years. When I got my Deck nearly two months ago, battery health (which can seen under desktop mode) read 97%. But I’ve been using it so much, it’s down to 92%. I honestly thought I would barely use it after the initial honeymoon phase wore off but it’s been the complete opposite for me and I carry it with me every day since I’m a gig driver.
The Steam Deck is frickin’ amazing. My Vita and Switch are collecting dust. If I’m bored playing games, I’ll use the Steam Deck to do something else like watch porn or read Reddit posts. I only bring one smartphone now because the Steam Deck is so complementary to any smartphone whether it’s iPhone or Android since it’s essentially a PC as well. It’s the G.O.A.T. It made me less interested for the Switch 2. F Nintendo! Cheers to Valve! 🍻

If they do a handheld I would love that, especially if all xbox and newer games run on it
I'll probably always own an Xbox. My "digital library" and what not... but Alex done sold me. Imma try and build a PC
If it's the first time you are going for pc, I would suggest going for a mid tier pre build from a well known corporation to make sure you get the correct parts and have a balanced build. There is so much to learn about what hardware to use with each other to not be bottlenecked and have a horrible experience. I have been building PC's for decades.
On PC your are able to play even "ancient" games. Sometimes you need to "deactivate" the DRM mechanism. And you are able to play emulator games for different consoles.
The PCSX 2 emulator is even able to load custom HD packs now. Like Alex said, made by people in their "basements.". As fan projects, no money involved at all. Big companies have NO excuse for missing backwards compability, except greed.
if youtubers can sell you that means they can convince you hate something too... no one has their own brain anymore.

Good video, sir. I personally would love a next-gen Xbox console which allows me to play a game through any Xbox 360, One or older console discs.
*Nostalgia*
I remember Arun Maini (Mrwhosetheboss) believes all video games get better but it’s our nostalgia that’s clingy to our past. I think he could be right since video games and smartphone tech does improve year after year but this doesn’t always apply with movies, TV shows, and songs.
So I was playing some Shenmue yesterday on my Steam Deck via Redream. The first one which I didn’t necessarily love as much as Part II. Man, it’s rough to go back after playing Part III using Unreal Engine 4. I know Shenmue III is considered by far the worst entry, but it’s not that bad compared to the first one. It’s only clearly worse in terms of overall story since it didn’t progress the overall arc of it one bit.
It’s making rethink if I should place Shenmue II far lower than being regarded my 2nd favorite game of all-time? Maybe I still love it strictly from my own nostalgia? The dialogue in Shenmue can be so laughably bad, and most of the characters in it aren’t all that likable and sometimes come off as downright annoying. But I will keep it in my top 5.
Most of my favorite games come from archaic IPs with archaic gameplay that might have been amazing to us over 20 years but looks and plays outdated today. Some of these thoughts has also got me rethinking on where I should rank FF7 Remake?? Maybe the Remake really is superior to the OG but I keep holding onto “old feelings” during a time when I was easily impressed at the age of 16.

Wait a minute, how could I have Final Fantasy VII Remake as my 2nd favorite game ever when I’ve constantly criticized it being a hallway simulator with FF7 skins with B- anime cutscenes? While I initially felt it was mid, I’m considering 100% the game. My first attempt to go platinum.
I believe in 20 years, the modern reboot trilogy of FF7 will be viewed as the definitive versions in the franchise. These games is how we should think about in terms of the FF7 story is presented and how the characters looks and act. But since they’re still newer and hasn’t built enough nostalgia yet for a newer generation similar to the Star Wars prequels, it’s still viewed inferior to some.
I got a feeling since Disc 2 of the OG FF7 was my favorite part of that game, Rebirth will rank high and definitely higher than Remake after I play it which I probably need to wait two years to do. Remake was only Midgar and mostly using the OG Big Three in Cloud, Barret, and Tifa. The Yuffie DLC did help Remake gain more points at the end and improved her character. FF7 Rebirth might be the best FF since X.
The big omissions on this new list is dropping MK: Double Dash!! and Super Street Fighter II. I think Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the GOAT Mario Kart game. I tried playing Double Dash last week and realized how outdated the graphics already looks. And the control feels more slippery as you can sway easily from left to right. And I dropped SSF2 because I felt Capcom nerfed Sagat’s tiger uppercut.

consoles though not as strong and customizable, they are good for gaming pcs. the more advanced 1 system gets the stronger the competition needs to get or get left behind and shutdown.
When she say a big leap i think is features ,features that consoles dnt have now that like quality of live, remember when they said that they had a patent where u could put a number on the disk in a digital console and u could get the game online, maybe they found a way of how to do it,cus ppl could buy a game download the digital and sell the phisical copy, maybe a way to make that work is to ask for the number everytime u going to download the game so ppl dnt try to scam others sellin u the physical and u cant download the digital
Handhelds are awesome as long as they run the games offline ,ie not streaming and especially not streaming from your other turned on living room consol. I want to use my handheld on a train that runs in the Himalaya mountains or on a submarine landed on the bottom of the ocean in the Mariana Trench.
You can be a PC gamer and be interested in consoles. I have a decent collection of retro stuff, a pretty solid PC and a PS5, for the interest with the new consoles is from a hardware perspective. I find the custom nature of the hardware to be pretty interesting. If I had to guess though what Xbox are doing is trying to make all their games be playable on their next console and services. Similar to how Steam is. It doesn't mean that you will necessarily own the titles in the same way as something you purchased on GoG or pirated but you will have access to it and not worry about new hardware not being compatible with the older games. This is good. How the execution turns out remains to be seen though.
I've been a diehard PC gamer for decades and recently got back into console gaming in earnest. Got a PS5 for some new and old exclusives, and just bought a Series X for the robust backward compatibility of games not available on PC. Always had a Switch for its exclusives.
@@matthewsmith3817 Yup same. I have a Switch too, two of them, an OG one with the Tegra exploit and an OLED one. Also a TON of physical games for it. I am a Nintendo handheld fan. The Switch satisfies my collectors itch and it is really the only and probably last most traditional console. Game is in cartridge, insert cartridge and play, no updates that are a must (for the most part), no install needed. The PS5 is kind of similar, I grab physical media mostly used to play and ad to the collection. It's also my 4K blue ray player in the living room.
Never got a Series X or S because I have my secondary (backup) PC in the living room with an RX 7900XTX so it kind of didnt make a lot of sense although I do have a lot of Xbox 360 games so maybe in the future.
Backwards compatibility and a truly next gen system (handheld or console) would really be a good thing for the industry. Actual games that play at or over 60fps is what we want.
@OhNoItsAlexx
Just wondering, would you really actually buy an Xbox Handheld? I feel like besides having native Game Pass available, you would probably be jist fine with your Steam Deck or Steam Deck 2 by then.
Big hope for some older Act/Bizzard games coming back to consoles
Idk how I feel about an Xbox handheld. Given that we’re spoiled for choice in handheld PC’s, there’s really no reason to buy a Switch let alone a portable Xbox.
Since I got my Steam Deck, I’ve been building my own library there in preps for getting an actual PC. I do have an Xbox with a substantial library, but I don’t see myself owning 2 handhelds. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

I'd love that, at least, my digital Xbox games collection would be fully available on Xbox PC app and not only the few branded as Play Anywhere. And after that, if they go all digital, a way to get a digital licence to use my disc games in that future. Also that "no exclusives anymore" (maybe just temporarly, like 6 months / 1 year) trend that might happen would be awesome for someone with a 700€ budget to invest in hardware every couple of years or so. In the meantime I have to stick to multiple pieces of plastic that get obsolete almost after I'm able to save the money to get them 😅

@@ryanb3908 ..yeah I still have 3 Xbox-360 systems, one day I'm going to turn one of them in to a emulation box for fun
I think a Microsoft handheld would be cool but im skeptical we will get something like that unfortunately. I think Microsoft has done excellent with backwards compatibility so far so I'm expecting great things in regard to that heading into the next gen console.
Nvidia or Qualcomm will probably make the new apu processor for the next Xbox. And advanced A.I. graphics rendering technology along with ML & latest in cloud-rendering technology will be built in.
I see them moving away from AMD as well. Microsoft is also designing custom HW for their servers. But on the gaming side of things they will have to stick with 1 of the big 3. They will have to create an ARM emulator for their handheld and go with qualcomm.
Always pay attention to how much unified memory the consoles use....it'll be a good indicator of how much video ram you'll need in the not so distant future.
24GB 4090, and 64gb 5600 DDR5....I'm fine for the next decade
@@glenmcl couldn't get your ram to post above 6000. Lol. 7xxx ryzen...right? Lol
I suspect the next console will be digital only and I'll be OK with that as long as they allow for an external disc drive to play the physical disc's. Knowing microsoft they like to allow their accessories to continue into the next generation we can keep that disc drive for the future.
If xbox does exit the console market Phil made a comment a while ago about how they give entitlement for PC and Xbox when you buy a game I suspect this new team will work towards expanding the xbox ecosystem on PC possibly through emulators to allow your whole digital library to be playable there.
The next Xbox might be a dual-boot system. They know that Xbox HW will continue to sell poorly and have to find a way to incentivize PC players to buy their hardware.
@bosskey23 I don't know... I feel like a PC gamer is there because of the power, ability to customize, while a console gamer plays there for convenience and affordability. A duel concept I think might just offend everyone.
Also I don't think xbox has any motivation to really push pc gamers towards xbox hardware when they are just as happy selling PC gamers windows and pc game pass.
@@timmybarr6434Xbox might struggle to sell 40M consoles this gen. So where does that leave them for next gen? The Switch 2 and PS5 Pro will draw more attention away from Xbox as well. A Xbox PC will still have devs optimizing for that HW. So it will still run better than most PCs. I feel that Xbox wants 1 store front instead of a Xbox and Windows store.
Xbox will still have all their loyalty fans from the console side buy there next console regardless. But they will draw in millions of PC games as well.
@@bosskey23Console optimization is not a big thing anymore. Consoles no longer use customized hardware anymore.
@@ZackSNetwork devs still like to have fixed HW specs. It gives them a baseline and console are good for that.
Man I have a huge PS 3 library both physical and digital....sucks that it's stuck on there....do have RPCS3 though
I really hope this is true. This goes against the live service game and microtransaction models though. Maybe we will get in game microtransactions to our classics, wouldn't that be great.
Many people need to understand that original games on disc wear out and the coding written in the disc deteriorates after 25 years, i have a few OG Xbox games in perfect condition yet on a few of them the cd reader cannot read certain information which can make the game crash, and its not down to the cd reader being old..
Many people forget cd's/dvd's wear out eventually.. so what then.. i suppose the games can be copied but that takes away all originality of owning the original game.. sooner or later no matter what the gaming industry will become 100% digital that is a fact and that realism is probably about ten years away minimum.
There should always be the option to buy physical. Since it helps with pricing. Especially, with new game releases.
I have said it before and I'll say it again. The next gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles will be all digital systems.
@@Donald_Allan we know there will definitely be at least two more Xbox consoles in the future and Xbox have stated this numerous times, I think the next console will have a disc drive but not the one after.. just my thoughts.
@@bosskey23 I understand and agree with you but there will come a day when consoles no longer exist in the future,
People will have to use older consoles to play their physical games.. I think Sarah Bond and her team is now currently prepping for a time physical games will no longer be available.. it's unfortunate but it's the way gaming is going in the future.. corporations value money over anything the actual gamer wants and those savings they make for self gain will always come first..
Which again is unfortunate for us the gamer.
halo wars 2 is on xbox app on pc
IIRC, there was something about the 360's architecture versus the OG Xbox's architecture that made backwards compatibility difficult, but they seem to have that figured out as of the Xbox One and now the Series because every game that is backwards compatible runs well and in some cases better than it did on the original hardware and every game that can be played on the One can be played on a Series. I'm just wondering why they don't just have an official emulator for the OG Xbox and the 360 for all the games that they didn't add to backwards compatibility. I understand not every game can work - games that require Xbox Live and/or an external peripheral such as the old Steel Battalion games, for example - and I don't know how they'd handle Phantasy Star Online requiring a controller password just to play in single player (I still remember mine, but does my Xbox Live account?), but still, there's no reason why I shouldn't just be able to put in a disc for, say, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, Aggressive Inline, Fatal Frame, Fatal Frame 2, JSRF, or Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 and just have it work.
I had to let my Xbox go when I moved to Thailand last year. Just sticking with my steam library was a much safer bet.
The series X was just a damn good looking system. Now that I am full on PC gaming only, I cant go back to console though. I have a beelink mini PC that literally plays my entire steam library.
But I sure as hell kept my elite series 2 controllers!
Console is a 3rd place platform and that will be the case till Cloud gaming takes off. It'll be Mobile, Cloud and PC. I think they have a chance to do something real nice if they go that Switch like Route. Gaming just needs to get their shit together, they get till April 7th
3rd place while it generates around 10 to 20 billion dollars in revenue. I'm sure Microsoft is so worried about being in "third place", Phil is crying, wiping the tears with all that money.
I heard that both Microsoft and Sony is going to push handheld next gen as a lower end entry level system like Series S and PS5 Digital right now.
@@Xyler94 I don't think he meant Xbox is 3rd place and more with console in general being behind mobile and pc with the exception of the Switch. Based on PS5 and Series S/X tracking below their predecessor.

About the Xbox plans; I think they will come with a PC handheld, and in around 2 years give or take .. with a Zen5 based X2 console. I'm not really into handhelds, but imo it would be or could be a substitute for the Series S. Xbox needs do 2 do things besides what is mentioned in the clip .. making sure that the potential handheld can be connected to every monitor or screen, and making sure that they have a shell installed, windows based. so that every game, or every library of whatever store you have your games on, can be accessed within seconds. If, and this is a big if .. Xbox could also doing something like that on their next gen console, adding more stores, or getting to your steam library, that would be insane. We can come up with a lot of what if's or speculations and idea's. Although it's good to see that Xbox continues with their hardware, in whatever form, and their services (like game preservation, backwards compatibility etc). I'm sure a lot of PS fanboys have something to say about Xbox rumored plans, but isn't that always the case. I rather have a Xbox PC handheld, where I can play everywhere, connect to everything and can play everything then a lousy Portal for my PS5 imo, that can't do sht. Just saying 😉
If they achieve digital preservation and digital consumer rights. My loyalty will be bought.
If the next xbox console has complete backwards compatibility back to the original, ill get one, 100%
didn't they already give up with the 360 and og xbox?
I just want a Xbox pc handheld with a custom window os system
All I hope is that the old titles are preserved as is and not censored, changed or straight up not preserved on purpose due to 'modern sensibilities'.
*Streaming* *Future?*
What if the 10th generation of gaming involves mostly streaming? Sony and Microsoft eliminates physical copies for games. But the focus is mostly streaming and digital downloads for offline stuff? Would you buy them? I won’t. Now I’m aware many gamers who collect games and prefer physical copies frown upon digital games. I’m not one of them. The last time I bought a physical copy of a game was with my Wii.
Ever since the iPhone revolution in 2007, I prefer all my entertainment in digital form including books. I prefer not own a lot of things since I move around a lot and hate clutter or needing to drag physical copies of any media to my next home. I’ve been a digital download fanboy since the latter days of my PSP phat when I used to legally purchase PSOne classics for it. Then I modded it and put emulators onto it by late 2010 like I did for my first gen iPod touch in mid 2008. Napster back in 2000 started my fandom for digital copies.
Our 5G networks for game streaming is not ready for the type of games we play. It’s not like movies and TV shows where we can stream mostly flawlessly with very little hiccups. And what if you’re headed into a desolate place or you go camping? This is when digital downloads for offline use is still important. Streaming can not be the main focus even if Sony and Microsoft could turn their stores into Netflix by charging subscription fees to their streaming.
We know Microsoft already focused on streaming thanks to Xbox Pass. ROG Ally and Legion Go are basically Microsoft Xbox handhelds and not simply Windows PC handhelds. And streaming does save storage space similar to what Google Photos does for me using an old Pixel 3 with their unlimited storage saver. But I think there are still issues if the focus is mostly streaming in the next gen and not everyone in the world can afford unlimited data plans or are tethered to a computer or TV.
*After* *I* *get* *the* *Steam* *Deck* *2,* *should* *I* *keep* *the* *first* *one* *or* *sell* *it?* It could be a maybe or maybe not for me. I may keep it for sentimental reasons. My brother gave me his PSP slim and I still kept it even though I have a Vita slim that does everything better than a PSP. I kept the PSP simply for the smaller size and what if my Vita dies or gets stolen? PSP has most of the games my Vita has and makes a great backup.
With game sizes getting bigger and bigger, the old Deck would make a great backup to some of those games that may not fit on the successor. And the OG Deck can still be used as multimedia device and a Linux PC. Seems like 2 TB may not be enough to hoard many AAA games. Even PS3 ROMs are huge. Perhaps you delete all the Steam games and only use Deck 1 for retro emulation or for movies and TV shows? It might seem pointless to own both a Deck 1 and 2, but you can find usage with Deck 1 as a great backup.
I may do the same with my Switch Lite even though that does far less than a Deck if you want it beyond playing games and CZcams. I think after I get a Switch 2, I’ll still keep the Switch Lite because I do enjoy that form factor and size. There will be a few unused handhelds in my room being kept in case the latest one breaks. And Switch 1 games will look better on a Switch 1 since it was originally developed for it. Playing PSP 272p games on a 544p Vita can look very blurry.
Doubt Nintendo will give us an upscaling option on a Switch 2 without charging you first or they’ll likely be re-releasing these old Switch 1 games on higher resolution if they want more money. This is why Nintendo and Sony doesn’t give a flying f*** about video game preservation. They want us to keep buying the same games over and over in every new generation. Then they’ll close down their digital stores in order for you to rebuy them again from their latest digital store.
I’ll probably stop gaming by my 50s or 60s. The Steam Deck or it’s successor could be my final gaming device purchase in my life if this is where gaming is headed: mostly streaming and lack of video game preservation. At least I got to play a Shenmue game and Final Fantasy VII games with modern graphics before my imminent retirement from gaming. But what a way to go ending my gaming hobby with a Steam Deck 1 or 2. I started with Nintendo but I’ll end it with Valve.
Ideally, Xbox would come out with a top tier next gen console AND a handheld capable of decent performance. Basically, what they are doing now but make the Series S compact and have a screen.
Xbox should just come out with a duel boot PC with Xbox/Windows and get Steam support.
Alex you're forgetting something, remember those leaks? There was a mention about the next Xbox NOT being X86 but ARM. Could this all be PR talk to get everyone relaxed? MS so far has not done a good job with their venture to ARM. With rumors of them considering it for their next consoles gives me great pause.
There's no software or even hardware issue that stops them from allowing you to just pop in a old disc and play the game. The only thing holding this back are 3rd party publishers and licensing that blocks MS from doing it. They had to stop the original BC program because they couldn't get any other publishers to agree/allow their games to be added, for whatever reason. At this point MS should just let their new console run everything, make it a VM, if you don't want to call it a "emulator", for legal and licensing reasons. Pop in a old disc and then it'll load up a hyperviser with the correct settings to run said old game, and done.
FPGA technology is the only true way so far to really play these older games. Look into it, you gonna be amazed from projects like MiSTeR and Analogue.
I say true way as even in back compatibility titles on Xbox there is latency introduced
I would like a handheld too really. And I hope Microsoft really knock this one out of the park. The backward compatibility initiative really does have me hoping.
Alex gets it! even though consoles are always behind PC its always interesting to see new tech and how efficient it can be like the steam deck using 45 watts is amazing for the experience it delivers.
This is all bs by Xbox unless they plan on using a Ai chip in their next console. If they are pushing BC then their next console will probably have a disc drive.
If true then not only we get to play the new games, we get to play the old games from the PlayStation 2 era. One thing Xbox has done well since the 360 era is the ability to play old games on their newer hardware. Something PlayStation and Nintendo don't do at all especially Sony when they stopped emulation on their later PlayStation 3 models beyond. Granted PlayStation 5 can play PlayStation 4 games but even that's not enough to preserve older games from the PlayStation 1 era.
All they need to do is make the steam deck that can have Game pass and EA play pass native on a portable device and they'd make a killing.
If a company says out loud they wanna work for preservation, as much as I generally despise them, I'm listening.
You have both Xenogears and the Xenosaga trilogy. My guy, you dont have to flex that hard.

Great video Alex, I really want to have preservation and equality.. bring Steam (most games not all, ones that are applicable) and epic stores to xbox and bring rest of ALL xbox, (fable 2, gears2,gears3, halo 5, halo4? not sure I think that's part of MCC on pc my bad.) and a couple other key XBOX example should come to XBOX pc game pass or on Xbox store on PC duh.. haha I get it Alex good point!
They could just hire emulator programmers to write it for them. They seem to have the skills for it. Since it is more or less an x86 it could be a program you launch inside the console to play older games.
If I can have one Xbox that can play all the games from every Xbox Gen.. that would be wild. The one Xbox to rule them all.
As a game collecter Xbox should keep physical games for people who want their games on disc.

I remember a month ago how a hacker got the PS Portal to run PSP emulation. Only for said hacker to sell off to SONY a day later after announcing his supposed "months of hard work" to fully patch it out of integrity (which I find sus), something I guess might be a trend and eventual problem for the emulation community. As for Xbox I really prefer Backwards Compatibility upscaling consistently, it's simpler cost and effective than spending for remasters that often times is a hit or miss (FFX, AC2, etc.)
