Speaking of Unicorn Overlord it's so bizarre to see this game get ported to every modern gaming platform except PC. With almost every Xbox game being ported to PC for the last few years it's actually weird to see one that isn't. And it's a shame because we need more tactical RPGs on PC.

@Guy1980 Even if they don't have the resources internally for a PC port they could outsource it. Nihon Falcom is a great example of this. For years they were developing exclusively for PlayStation consoles however when their games get released outside Japan the ports to PC and Switch get outsourced to other developers (PH3 Games for example who worked on PC ports of every Trails game since Cold Steel 2 and did performance consulting for CS1). There's no reason why Vanillaware or Atlus couldn't outsource a PC port of Unicorn Overlord. In fact if you're correct and Vanillaware only develops internally for PlayStation and Nintendo consoles then the Xbox port had to have been outsourced.
I never said it was because of resources, they just don't put their games out on pc, it's their preference it would seem, and I never said they didn't develop the xbox version of Unicorn Overlord, they did, its their first xbox game, their last 8 were on ps and Nintendo systems as well as 4 remasters @@electricindigoball1244

I love GOG. When I buy a game, I put it on 2 backup drives, and they’ll work later without GOG installed. Amazing game preservation.
Same here! It's crazy to me it's not more popular. When I want a pc game I always check to see if it's available on GOG first. If it's not I buy it on Steam but with much regret lol.

I think many people would be more open to buy games on GOG but they are missing a ton of games (not sure if that's on gog or on the developers but i would assume that developers have either no interest in people "owning" their games or it creates some extra work for an audience that's too small). Either way i also buy games on gog if available but i wish what gog does would be the norm

You know, these people constantly cry how Steam is a monopoly.
We the PC gamers have decided Steam is the best place to buy our games. Not because we are forced to, but because overall, Steam gives us the most benefits for our money.
GOG has their DRM Free terms (which they tried to change once, but was hit with massive backlash so they stopped. Again, the power of PC gaming, we aren't beholden to a single company!). Which is awesome, but GOG doesn't have features Steam has, so I personally still prefer to buy on Steam.
Epic Games Store, is an "alternative", but they engaged in exclusivity to try and get numbers... Which angered many PC guys, so their store is relegated to Fortnite and the free game drops.
This is what happens when a platform is not beholden to a single company. It creates competition. And people gravitate towards what gives them the most for their money.
Larian Studio's games are drm free as well.
Speaking of which I bought Baldur's Gate 3 a few days ago and I just can't put it down, it's an incredible breath of fresh air, like a return to form of the old days of gaming.
You notice it’s mostly the companies (Epic, Ubisoft) who say Steam is a monopoly, and not the consumers. It’s because Steam is more in favor of players rather than publishers.

The biggest downfall with PC is the lack of physical media.
And one thing about developing for multiple platforms.
As a Dev who worked in the industry for 8 years now, and worked on AAA, AA, indie and even mobile, developing for multiple platforms is not an issue, far from it, it's way harder to port a game that's already done for only one platform, than to start making a game for all platforms, all the platforms are x86 based, and most things translate 100% between plaftorms.
TLDR exclusives are anti-consumer, development for multiple platforms is not an issue, developing for only 1 platform have 0 guarantees that the game will be better for that.

In my experience is the opposite, making a game for multiple platforms from the beggining not only makes the game run better overall, but also makes the games look better since we are forced to have an art direction that will make the game look good in all platforms, and that by itself will allow devs, artists, animators, etc... work with more optimized assets, even improving the time they take to make those assets.

Not everything they do is pro-consumer, but game pass and releasing games on multiple parties is a good start.
I would argue about that "everything" part, but let's compare them: with Game Pass you can play games via cloud even on lowest budget smartphnones on the go without owning any Xbox device. Apparently, they're BAD for that. Sony on the other hand releases PS Portal for $200, which can't be used without a $500 console, can't stream games via cloud, is compatible only with overpriced earbuds, can't connect with secured public wi-fi and they're PRAISED for that. Make this make sense...

Micro transactions are never pro consumer. As a game developer I can explain why. First of all micro transactions imply that I need to spend time designing/creating content which is only accessible in an intended way by the users/players who pay a transaction fee. So it means that I will spend less of my time improving the game for all players. That's already anti-consumer but I'll continue.
Second point is that it'll make the actual price of my work more obscure. The price tag on the game will not represent the cost because I'll expect a defined portion of the players to spend extra money on transactions in the game. If I don't get paid enough through this, I'll need to increase transaction fees or increase the psychological incentive for all players to pay extra. That is anti-consumer but I'll continue.
Third point is that all micro-transactions build on top of the idea that I can convince a portion of players to pay extra for some locked content to finance the game development. So that means I'll invest more time into psychological persuasion of players to pay extra instead of actually improving the game. Because the more micro-transactions I have and the more they finance the development, the less I actually sell "the game" as my product.
In other words to make the last point more clear: Micro-transactions don't offer gameplay in most cases. So I would actually sell you a non-game inside of a game when I should actually sell you a game, right? If the non-game I sell you makes more money than the actual game, am I truly a game developer anymore? I'd argue, no I am not. I'm just a salesman in that moment.
Reforge is a man suffering an ID10T error. I don't have a business degree and I know that more people being able to buy a thing equals more money.

When a publisher makes a game exclusive they are basically leaving money on the table. So it makes sense for these greedy publishers to try and make as many games as they can multi platform.

You buy a product, and it has a lifetime warranty. If it ever breaks, they will replace it free of charge. That is pro consumer. And that lifetime warranty still exists on hand tools. Anti-consumer is when you buy a product, and you have to keep spending to keep that product working. Reforge needs to stop. He is confusing the children that watch his channel.
