  • The 1981 nailbiting encounter between Wales and England in its entirety. Wales, led by Steve Fenwick, were looking for revenge after suffering an injury time defeat the previous year at Twickenham while England, led by Bill Beaumont, were looking for their first victory in Cardiff since 1963. This match was to prove equally as dramatic as the previous year's game at twickenham with Wales not scoring the winning points until two minutes into injury time. England still had an opportunity to record a famous win in Cardiff when they were awarded a penalty in the 4th minute of injury time but the hero of a year before - Dusty Hare - was unable to convert from 40 yards out. It would be another 10 years before England would finally beat Wales in Cardiff

    What a delight to see JPR at 21:30, showing what he was all about - legendary. R.I.P.

    So nice to see scrums not having to set and re set (repeat loop 5 times), no box kicking and to me the game flowed far better than constant stoppages you see nowadays! It would be great if, as a one off, a Rugby match were played under the rules around in the early 80's. You've got to bear in mind the 'Steve Thomson' scenario with tackling, scrums etc - so probably very unlikely.

    Gareth Davies had a superb game. Classy outhalf regardless. These games are much better than the modern fare. Phil Blakeway having to play at loose head!

      He was awful. He could kick from hand but was hopeless with the ball in hand. More concerned with his carefully coiffured barnet and his immaculate white shorts.

    At 6:26 JPR diagnosed Geoff Wheel's injury! Useful to have an orthopaedic surgeon on your team...

    The Welsh almost decended into rough-house . . . almost. But what great refereeing!

      Some would argue that England had 8 years of dross before the 1980 Grand Slam too. There were some shocking performances from them in the 1970's!

    The game once had this flair to it that isn't there today. Today it's about defense lines, line speed, phony rucks where the opposing players don't even have to make any contact, mauls that have legalized obstruction, goal line drop outs.

    • @zabaleta66
      @zabaleta66 Před 4 měsíci

      Agree entirely! One remedy for fixing the game to make it proper rugby again, and not this hybrid rugby league nonsense, is to make the ball the offside line in the mauls/ruck (back foot of the maul/ruck for those not attached) and give scrum put-ins to the side going forward at mauls! Also outlaw decoy running ahead of the ball; get rid of the stupid goal line dropouts too; should be shoulder to shoulder at lineout time too; replacements only for genuine injuries as well, though able to use them all if it's warranted.
