When I played the track for the first time in 2010 or so, I thought during the track overview cutscene that the track would go through the penguin island and the giant penguin was an obstacle you had to dodge, like the wigglers on Maple treeway.
Was a bit disappointed to find out that wasn't the case D:
The fact that this game still has secrets so many years after its release is insane.

Well, this is a software modification. It’s not that this is a vanilla feature and that there are new secrets being discovered.
As does almost every game. Only difference is more ppl are passionately about this one

There should be a coconut mall styled battle stage in the next mario kart or even in this one, using the space of it just like the unused part Troy was in the beginning

You can't drive on moving objects with the mod, because of that you couldn't get on the pinguin or the skilift
