  • Winner - Animation Category of the 2020 NZ Bright Awards.
I wanted to make an animation to raise awareness of organisations that assist people who have survived human trafficking, slavery, or abuse. Having grown up in Afghanistan, I realise it’s often not possible for people to tell their own stories publicly, due to the stigma that unfortunately exists even for survivors. I approached an NGO that helps survivors of such abuse, in Afghanistan, and they were keen for me to animate a story.
This story of “Maryam” hopefully demonstrates the amazing work done by many NGO's and the phenomenal resilience of women and children who have suffered enormously.
I created this in 30 days, part-time, and with it, I was fortunate to win the Animation Category of the 2020 NZ Bright Awards. Thanks to all that supported me, your encouragements and critique were invaluable.

Great animation and heart felt story. I like your use of graphic symbolism. It is a shame that these poor girls could feel their innocence could be taken away by anyone, but in the world where this girl lived, others would see you as dirty or unclean, following something that was not under your control to avoid. Keep it up Sketchy. Incredible work.

I hope you win! This is is amazing work, and to be done in 30 days, wow! the animation, color theory, character design and the story are very moving. You have a very stable method of animation, I look forward to seeing more videos of you! it is nice to see animation that talks further than just the aesthetic side. A message is always the most valuable thing you can get out of a story.

For some reason the thumbnail was instantly reminding me of Breadwinner (the 2D animated movie by Cartoon Saloon) and I guess that makes sense given the setting if not quite the topic. Some of the realities in that movie certain align with the realities presented in this video.

If you alt right-click on an object, moho will select that layer. This removes a lot of the hassle of sifting through layers that seemingly has no name, or a cut off one.

@@rshawn4303 nothing is wrong with Moho. This being said, I would rather support free and opensource software, given the choice. Also, blender has many advantages, even as moho does. I still use Moho for quick animations that I need to make fast, but I think that Blender is improving so fast that I would love to see how it affects my work. Hi Khader. Due to my lack of experience with GP, I decided to use Moho primarily for this animation. Although most of what I achieve in this animation could be achieved in GP. The future of Moho is uncertain at best, So for my next few projects I will be using more of Blender and GP. The transition will be difficult, but I believe I'll be better because of it.
