He nailed it when he said he tried to change things too quickly. He charged in like a bull in a China shop, making no objective observations of the players, just insulted the lot of them and expected them to play for him. He was a young, rash and immature manager at the time. I only wish we’d got him when he’d had a few more years under his belt and was wiser and more mature
He was right about Leeds being dirty. The Leeds players who are supposed to love their club deliberately played badly , like spoiled brats .
Also this led to years in the wilderness for Leeds.
@@leehogg6248 we made the European Cup final that season. Our squad was ageing and we were never able to adequately replace them. The next generation were decent but eventually faded into a Second Division side. If you buy into the delusion for one second that a hatred for Brian Clough is what caused the club’s demise, I feel truly sorry for you
@@Josh-cm9jw an aging but capable squad who, as you say yourself lost in the European cup final. Clough saw to it and brought in 3 very capable player's . One who went on to captain a double European cup winning side who the loving Leeds fans booed and players ostricized. It's simple. They threw their dummies out of the pram which showed just what prima Donnas they had become. This cost Leeds almost everything.
@@leehogg6248 they reacted that way because of the disrespect from Clough. At this point, he’d had just the one title at Derby and stormed off because he didn’t get his own way. His success with Forest was after Leeds, so what we ultimately got was an immature man child slagging off players who had won a lot more than he had at that stage. You can’t do what he tried to do at Leeds without the trophies to show for it. It is only in hindsight you can say the players should’ve listened, in the context of how things were at the time, any other group of players would’ve treated him with the same indifference and mistrust
The funny thing about this is when Forest won the league they did so losing just three games like Clough says in his argument with Revie
Plus a 42 match unbeaten run.
@@deputyVH minimal chance but you'd hope Forest could do what Leeds have done so they could at least recall, if not rekindle the Clough era rivalry with Liverpool
He arrived at Derby and Forest when both were at a low ebb - therefore they were willing to buy into what he was offering and that worked. He arrived at Leeds when they were at their highest point (league champions) with star players who (probably rightly) felt that 'if it aint broke, don't fix it'.
I good video….the chairman was weak, so the players had too much say.
Yes Clough went about it the wrong way but, he should have been given backing by the board. Most of the players were old and stubborn and thought they were the club.
Look at what happened to Leeds as a result and how did Clough turn around Forest??.
Leeds were dirty and did result to harassing the ref and I’m a Leeds fan

It was a bad fit. I think Clough would have been much more successful at Leeds with Taylor. But I think Clough took what he learned as all great managers do. Look what he did at Forest.
Leeds loss was definitely our gain. Forest have never came close to replacing the great man. I'm not saying he was the best but he was in top one percent .
If only Cloughie had brought Peter Taylor with him. Duncan Mckenzie was a brilliant player for Leeds though good signing by him.
Big Mart Matt Busby, Revie, Shankly, Clough proper managers that took struggling clubs to be empires without buying trophies like Chelsea and Man C
Clough 2 European cups in two years . Leeds missed out in the long run.
If Brian had taken Peter with him to Leeds things could well have been very different, but with the gift of hindsight it was a blessing to Forest.

LEEDS SQUAD AT THAT TIME WERE PAST THEIR BEST , HOWEVER ITS THE DIRECTORS TO BLAME THEY SHOULD HAVE APPOINTED JOHN GILES AS MANAGER THEN THEY WOULD HAVE EVOLVED LIKE LIVERPOOL DID AFTER SHANKLEY

Don Revie turned Leeds United into the best team in England, but also the most hated. And for those who didn't live through it they were not hated because they were the best, far from it, they were hated because they surrounded referees, played the game as win at all costs even over sportsmanship, and were a very dirty side. In addition there are many rumours that Revie and indeed some of his senior players were involved in bribing other teams to letting Leeds win games. This is how they became known from Glasgow to Southampton and from Newcastle to Bristol as "THE SCUM". In their favour they were cheated even worse when they played in Europe, having terrible decisions go against them in the ECWC final of 1973 and the EC Final of 1975.
Pretty obvious by many player's responses that they decided not to play their best under Brian Clough, purely because he pointed out the bleedin obvious and they resented his honesty. Feet draggers and sore losers!
CLOUGHIE without Taylor; no good.
That’s why I think it’s inaccurate to call Clough a great manager. He was part of a great double-act.

Leeds-united were probably the best footballing side in Europe in revies era. Plus they could handle themselves and always stook together... So don't talk bollox 😉😅
