    That whole monologue from Mark Ruffalo on how RDJ has done it all and doesn't have to prove anything to anyone is honestly some beautiful stuff to hear from a friend.

      Hit it on the head. RDJ basically saying, if you think you’ve done it all you have nothing left to do and reach for. So, you have to go int a new project you’re keen about with the mindset, you haven’t done it all or you’d just wither away. That goes for a lot of things. I didn’t realize they have known each other for so long,

    I love when rdj stops cracking jokes and becomes serious for a second. He’s so well spoken and smart and appreciative of his colleagues and says so many interesting and insightful things. Yeah he is probably Tony Stark forever, for us and for the next generation and he probably realises this. But the fact that he keeps pushing himself higher and higher when as Mark said there’s nothing left to prove is admirable and inspiring. He was so open about his doubts to act out of marvel again and he did a freaking amazing job. He deserves this Oscar as no one else this year. And coming back to the old theme, his story is undoubtedly the greatest redemption arc a man could ask for.

  • @pingumon3581
    @pingumon3581 Před 5 měsíci +173

    The part where Mark compliments Robert on how in Oppenheimer, he plays a character that is so different from what he usually does, I think that holds a lot of significance. Despite proving to us countless times that he is an actor who is more than capable in his craft, Downey still is ready to push himself and do more characters, it strongly lies in in his core to be an actor. I think the most frightening part of being an actor is when people start looking at your characters as a version of your off-screen persona, like the time when boundaries between him and his character iron man was so blurred in general, it was evident that nothing would be able to surpass his time as iron man. When an actor plays a role, they want to be recognized as that character in that particular film, then move on to the next part. But I can't even imagine the kind of turmoil a passionate actor like him had to go through when he played this character for such a long period of time. The magnanimity of tony stark was befitting to Downey's real life personality. He basically made that character as an extension of himself. I love tony stark to death, he has been an important figure throughout my teenage life and adulthood, his character is almost reverential to most of our generation. It was very difficult to evade the imposition of this character on to Downey's real life personality. To have one singular act counted has your legacy as a thought can be scary. But then he turns around to play Levi Strauss and it was phenomenal, easily one of the best performances of the year. So when Ruffalo mentions that he delivered that performance with all the details packed in with a crisp, basically us audiences not seeing the character for HIM but for what the character is, I think its a huge compliment. Its true that his cultural footprint will be huge as a part of the marvel franchise, but it won't be limited to that only. He has delivered some of the best performances that need to be revisited again and again, and I think that is essentially what makes him one of the finest actors around the world.

    Honestly my favorite part of this interview is towards the beginning, when Robert and Mark are talking about feeling like they have to prove themselves to people. Mark tells Robert that he doesn’t need to do that, Robert brings up his Dad, and Mark says that he did and in a beautiful way. I don’t know why that moment sticks out to me so much. Maybe it’s because it’s comforting to know that even this great guy I look up to who is almost in his 60’s still feels like he needs the approval of his parents and is still at least a bit insecure about it, or maybe it’s because Mark was being such a caring friend in that moment saying that he did get acceptance from his Dad and that the documentary Sr. was a beautiful film. I haven’t seen many people talk about that moment, but it stuck out to me so much that I had to get my thoughts out there. I love these two, this interview was amazing, I hope they work together again soon ❤️

You can see that they are more than friends They are part of each other's tribe. And yet the conversations they have about the art of acting should be required viewing for young actors who want to create great characters, not just make movies and money. You can hear in their voices that both of these actors are so grateful that they got to be a part of the larger industry movies But that their hearts are in creating characters with depth that make you question everything.

    I love these guys in the Infinity Saga don't get me wrong, but I am so happy Zodiac was talked about. RDJ was awesome in Oppenheimer ofc, but him in Wonder Boys is mad underrated. Mark is obviously a powerhouse. His performance in Spotlight still sends chills down my spine.

    One of the most beautiful, genuine and deep conversations on the channel. Enjoyed every minute of it! :)

    its so nice seeing Robert Downey Jr AND Mark Ruffalo in an interview again. God it feels like a lifetime ago Endgame came out. 2008-2019 was a fucking blast!!!!

      Im still in mourning. I watch the infinity saga as my comfort movies. Super long story why. But I love them so much, they have truly saved my life these last two years. It was so nice to see these two step out from those roles though and just be themselves and relax. Such a fantastic interview.

      End of an era. Film historians will look back on that as the most successful run of comic book films of all time.
