Let’s be honest. If Nolan directed The Avengers it would be a great film, not an admittedly entertaining but nevertheless shallow superhero flick series.
Nolan is notoriously famous for avoiding interviews, so having RDJ bring out a more fun side to him is really heartwarming.
He seems to have crawled out of his shell a bit more for Oppenheimer which is great. This was just a perfect match and a great way to see a less serious side of him.

I don't know if they were faking it or not. But this was one of the best interviews I've enjoyed. Maybe because Mr.Nolan is so very serious all the time.

you cant just fake this type of interactions. You can tell Nolan's reactions and Downey's jokes were on the spot and genuine

This is proof that RDJ did not just play himself as Iron Man, but he actually had to tone himself down to play Tony Stark, which must've taken a tremendous amount of effort and restraint.

I really hate this sentiment with people recently with how people accuse RDJ and Ryan Reynolds for just "playing themselves".
@@nem3732 it's because they stopped showing their range, when you look at their smaller movies you can see they are plenty talented but the big movies they do sometimes only show one single side of that talent. Tbh it's less true for RDJ now that Oppenheimer has been released, but Ryan Reynolds hasn't gotten out of his comfort zone in a bit.
I cannot believe RDJ is 6 years older than Christopher Nolan. For someone that struggled with substance abuse for a long time, he has aged miraculously well.

The thing I've always loved about Robert Downey Jr. as an Actor is that despite his growing age, he never ceases to tone down his inner child. Truly an amazing actor and person.
The fact that both Iron Man and The Dark Knight came out in the same summer and both changed the game for comic book movies, when RDJ was kinda in a weird spot in his career where no one was really wanting him, now years later sitting with Christopher Nolan talking about a film they did together, its the circle of life.

They are the embodiment of a pair of extroverted-introverted friends 😂. RDJ is talking to everybody in the room and the camera (an endearing performer he is), and Chris Nolan just talks directly to him. RDJ throws all kind of fun stuff in the conversation and Nolan, the man who's always behind the camera, just answers with the most important part and listens and laughs at RDJ's jokes. This is such a great pairing.

Interesting thing is the way Nolan casts movies we could be seeing RDJ in quite a few of his movies if Nolan sees the fit. He uses so many of the same actors multiple times for good chemistry. Granted RDJ might be too big for constant use.

God i wish this interview lasted for an hour. These two men are genuinely amicable and open minded as you can see. Downey's spirit is just hard to not like. For the first time we see nolan being quite chatty and having fun

I think RDJ says it best when it comes to Nolan and how everyone sees him: He has an air of mistique and seems so imposing because we all see him as "one of the best movie directors in the world" and we forget that he's just a man doing what he loves, the best way he cans.
This video helped me see what RDJ was able to experience by working with Nolan.
"Oppenheimer" earned Christopher Nolan his first Golden Globe for Best Director!
It's kinda wild to see these two working together, since their movies seemed to be constantly competing directly against each other for over a decade.

Well Nolan had only worked on The Dark Knight trilogy and produced Man of Steel (2008-2013 if going by when the MCU started) so that wouldn't really be a decade of competing with Marvel.
Seeing Nolan laugh and smile over and over is wierd but surprisingly wholesome. Only RDJ can make anyone laugh that much without being annoying. 😂

Chris was amazing, when we were at school, he was always silent, never answered any question, we thought he is weired, but I thought, that this man will be genius in a specific field and today he becomes one of the best directors that been in our history. Helloya Chris.
These men did an amazing job delivering us one of the most impactful, thought provoking films of the summer. It was a genuine pleasure to watch this film and see the cast and crew create magic. I was genuinely glued to my seat and enjoyed every moment of Oppenheimer. Thank you!

RDJ is a master at disarming people. Maybe because of what he hes been through and he wants to be that light for others. I aspire to be that kind one day. Nolan just opened up immediately.

Never seen Nolan laugh during an interview. Got to say Robert Downey Jr is a friend you need who does all jokes and Nolan as a friend who laughs on them. I even love when Nolan imitates RDJ while throwing the board. 😅
All the interviews with the whole cast of Oppenheimer have all been fantastic. They all seem to have loved making this film. Chris Nolan seems so down to earth, a smart man but seems like he could have a conversation with anyone. And RDJ is brilliant, funny and also seems down to earth. Can’t wait to see Oppenheimer at the movies tomorrow.

wired autocomplete never fail to have some of the most interesting and entertaining interviews and there isn’t an interviewer it’s all them answering the questions we all think when we see them on screen or something they have created
RDJ is so honest and funny, Christopher is a genious
I never realize how much I miss RDJ until he comes to do press for a movie that’s actually very good
It’s nice to see RDJ having that relaxing effect on Christopher because he’s usually quite shy and quiet and you can see how more at ease he is with Robert sort of taking the pressure of him by being funny and taking most of the spotlight
Just saw Oppenheimer last night finally. RDJ seems to have the supporting actor Oscar in the bag. He was incredible
