I get why 'Painkiller' is often suggested, but it doesn't come close to showing Rob's range at all. Agree... I like "Painkiller"... I like "Painkiller" A LOT, but I think there are better Judas Priest songs that showcase Rob Halford's vocal range and the musicianship of the rest of the band better, like "Hard As Iron", "Blood Red Skies" "A Touch of Evil", "Victim of Changes", "Out In the Cold", "Desert Plains", "Metal Gods" and "Devil's Child".

If I want you to get why Rob is held in such why esteem, Painkiller is only one of the multiple songs I'd play you.

In the late 80s, Judas Priest went to trial over a lyric that allegedly caused a young fan to commit suicide. It was a year of bad press, and court dates, and finger pointing that resulted in producing the aggression for the painkiller album.

    • @onsesejoo2605
      @onsesejoo2605 Před 2 lety +1

Yes, and the decision was that there were words present when played backwards, but accidentally due to various sounds mixing together, such as cymbal noise. In the court the band itself presented accidental words that could be found when the record was played backwards. One of the lines was "I asked for peppermint cola". The documentary film made about it might be available somewhere.

    • @Rikrik1138
      @Rikrik1138 Před 2 lety +1

@@onsesejoo2605 oh yes, I remember it well. I was merely remarking how these factors were why Painkiller was a much heavier and more aggressive album than their previous work. It was kind of a middle finger to everything they went through.

That idiot Tipper Gore's P.M.R.C. on full throttle. I think Painkiller came out a good while after that incident though. Wasn't Painkiller after Rob came back into the band after Ripper Owens?
In any event, Rebecca, Handshake From Hell, Arch Enemy's new single is out. Alissa does some cleans in it. Not to be missed!

I feel lucky being a teenager in the 80s we had Prest with The Metal God Rob, KK, and Glenn then Maiden with Bruce, Adrian, and Dave. Two of the biggest bands in the world still

Scott Travis is Judas Priest's drummer, and according to certain different websites he's either 6'4" or 6'6".
    Either way, he's a double-kick drum beast.
And he turns 61 in September, making him a few months younger than I am.
And yes those insane drums at the beginning of Painkiller are indeed real, and Scott played the Hell out of them.
As he does on everything he plays.

One of your colleagues has expressed an interesting idea, that Rob as a vocalist has been kinda made to sing with electric guitar and he basically could vowel sing the guitar solo from this song. This thought seem really close to truth)
Thank you for your reviews, it’s very interesting to listen, keep it up.
P.S. Halford is absolutely fantastic in so many aspects of singing, that it seems unreal

#RebeccaFacts. Rob Halford and Rebecca went on a tour of a glass factory and while wondering away from the tour, got locked in the building for the night. The only way they could escape was breaking the glass windows with their super high octaves and they listened to Blind Guardian-The Bard Song/Valhalla (live from Wacken 2016) on the ride home.

HELL, Just Reading the Lyrics Alone, Give You a Sense of the Intensity to Come.. PAINKILLER
    Faster than a bullet
    Terrifying scream
    Enraged and full of anger
He is half man and half machine
    Rides the metal monster
    Breathing smoke and fire
Closing in with vengeance soaring high
    He is the painkiller
    This is the painkiller
    Planets devastated
    Mankind's on its knees
A savior comes from out the skies
    In answer to their pleas
    Through boiling clouds if thunder
    Blasting bolts of steel
    Evils going under deadly wheels
    He is the painkiller
    This is the painkiller
    Faster then a laser bullet
    Louder than an atom bomb
    Chromium plated boiling metal
    Brighter than a thousand suns
    Flying high on rapture
    Stronger free and brave
    Nevermore encaptured
They've been brought back from the grave
    With mankind resurrected
    Forever to survive
Returns from Armageddon to the skies
    He is the painkiller
    This is the painkiller
    Wings of steel painkiller
    Deadly wheels painkiller
    He is the painkiller
    This is the painkiller
    He is the painkiller
    This is the painkiller
    Pain! Pain! Killer! Killer!
    Pain! Pain! Killer! Killer!
    Can't stop the painkiller
    Pain (pain)
