The crazy part of this is that they where entering their 40's when they recorded this, their 12th album. This was a statement. And the guitarwork is just next level.
@mr.brenman2132 Dio didn't even begin his solo career until he was in his 40s. During Whitenakes prime commercial years David Coverdale was in his 40s too.
Judas Priest was making a big statement with this song in 1990. Sicken and tired of hair bands and commercial songs labeled as "Heavy Metal", Judas Priest released Painkiller just to show us what real Heavy Metal was about... Thanks for sharing your great reaction to this amazing song! 🤟😎
I agree but it was more than just that, you’ll have to forgive the fact I can’t remember the band or mag that published it but someone back in the thrash days said old school metal bands couldn’t handle modern ( at the time) metal. They should retire. Priest’s response to that was basically hold my beer, they released painkiller, dominated, and put up and comers in their place and show respect. Wish I could remember what band it was that said that
@@cyrid-5786 No problem, I didn’t know about the hair band issue, like you said that explains a lot. Definitely find it funny that those bands have died and turned to dust, Priest, they just released a new album. Goes to show you don’t mess with legends. Thumbs up to you
I'm a huge Judas Priest fan, but I'm also a huge Hair Metal fan. Hair Metal gets a bad rap, the music is far better than the image. Not that the image was an issue in my opinion. Just different types of Rock/Metal and there was room for both. The 80s were the decade of decadence, and it was a glorious time to live through in every way with the bonus of amazing Hard Rock/Heavy Metal bands. 🤟😈🤟
I'm 60 and a lifelong Metalhead. The heavier, the louder, the better. First Judas Priest album I ever bought was in 1979. 45 years later and they are STILL releasing top tier Metal.
"What are they trying to prove?" Probably that they can still "Deliver The Goods" in true, face-melting metal - after 2 guitar-synth "sellout" albums which the fans did not warm up to (some even hated), Painkiller was the ultimate comeback/redemption album to prove they could still crush it. The whole album is like that.
I always think when listening to this, that the production on this song also is fantastic for its time, the guitar, and voice sound is just so clean and loud, and it sounds really good production wise..
With this album JP,,escape,,from their classic sound, like on Ram it Down or early albums...Painkiller is excelent album..like your reaction when make,,pause,,from brutal guitar riffs...
And they are still rocking today. Ofcourse they are old and I don't know how long they can keep doing it but they are still popular and still do big concerts.
I think it's probably fair to say that people were warmed up a little with the previous album RAM IT DOWN, but this album really took them over the top.. and that's the opening track.
painkiller was priests hardest album and one of their best every song on this album rocks hard. for some of their older stuff check out screaming for vengeance, blood red skies, and metal gods
Another song which came out in the same year, 1990, as 'Painkiller' is 'Holy Wars... The Punishment Due' by Megadeth. Since you have yet to listen to Megadeth, you need to check this song out.
If you want to hear the whole spectrum of the singer (Rob Halford) you should listen to "Diamonds and Rust"! It is a song from Joan Baez and Judas Priest made this Cover. The best ist live from the Epitaph Tour!
Record Company back in 1990 "Hey guys we need something heavy hitting to melt peoples faces off. Think you can do this?" Judas Priest - "Here hold our Beers"
Exist many Famous and not heavy metal band but JUDAS PRIEST is Heavy metal, the classical dress chain leather and studs " invented" They in 1978 KILLIG MACHINE.
"what are they trying to prove?". after "Turbo Lover" many thought they were washed up has beens. they took time off, got their s--t back together and came up with this. that's what they were trying to prove. long live the Priest!!!
Keep in mind that this was their first album following a much publicized court case in Texas where they were accused of placing subliminal messages which cause one suicide and another to become disfigured, ultimately taking his own life later. The album title and song has so much anger and energy. It could be said that it was therapeutic for the ordeal they, as a band went through for being falsely accused.
Do not listen to this while driving a fast car u won't feel ur foot slowly going down I made that mistake of doing that in my road runner on my way to Vegas topped out at 240 mph left a cop in the dust
hey kids never start judas flippin priest with painkiller, i would start with diamonds and rust live the video that says ant33, its a cover of joan baez's lovesong to bob dylan, their harder stuff like hellbent for leather, beyond the realms of death and the green manilishi with the 2 pronged crown all from epitaph after diamonds and rust, thats the way to go with priest
You guys think Rob is a demon? mhuahuahua... try dis guy: Will Ramos: To the Hellfire live one take ( to be found on his youtube ) , it will completely destroy you.... Rob and Ronnie James Dio were the two original METAL vocalists, period. The entire evolution of metal singing we have seen would not have taken place without those two... More Priest? screaming for vengeance live from the 1982 memphis video... there is a reason why Rob is called "the Metal God" that performance be one of them... Or try Devin Townsend from his royal albert hall performance, "deadhead" and "death of music" for example. the man has got a 7 octave vocal range...

Haha as if 40 is old
@@pauljackson1456 At one time in Rock and Metal it was ancient.

and dont forget they had Scott Travis as new drummer who was 30 at that time
They said that in the video already.
Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing were one THEE greatest rock guitar duos in history!

Hi John & Lulu, I'm a Musician and met Rob Halford at a bar that I played at also he has a house here in Phoenix 🤟🤟
they are still on tour actually, and just as good. the singer Rob Halford is known as the Metal God for good reason. 72 and still rocking out
I never get tired of these reactions, no one is ever prepared for the onslaught intensity of this song LOL
I've known this song since 1990 and have seen Judas Priest live 3 times
Rob Halford also does the best Christmas album ever made.

If you want more Judas, I think a good one would also be Touch of Evil, it has a very different feel to Painkiller and it's also incredible.
The entire album of Painkiller is just outrageously brilliant
Pausing the solo is always a no-no
Dokładnie to arcymistrzowie metalu

A total assault on your senses an absolute masterpiece
Metal is only to the strongest /,,/ Long live to the Priest /,,/
After this Rob left and formed a new group called FIGHT! You should check out "War of Words" and "Into the Pit". 😅😎
Real metal baby straight into your face, epic song so hard and furious, not for the faint hearted. 😀
Rob was around 45 years old when he wrote this album with a new member Scott on Drums from right in Virginia Beach and yes the band is still touring
He was 39 when painkiller was released.
I think it's probably fair to say that people were warmed up a little with the previous album RAM IT DOWN, but this album really took them over the top.. and that's the opening track.
I only got to see them live 1 time pfff On the Screaming for Vengeance tour. I would love love LOVE to see this live. Great reaction mates :)
I remeber the Priest in the 80s. Damn I miss the 80's

No Rob is the Metal God!!!!
Maybe you need eating Painkiller after watching the video haha 😂 great you guys reacted to Judas Preist 👍❤🤘
Once again, thank you Lulu

Excellent choice!
Halford is the only metal singer where you dont need the lyrics.
He articulates every word crystal clear while screaming insanely.
Yes, but "Freewheel Burning" is an exception lol
EPIC!

Freewheel burning
Rapid Fire
Love bites
Turbo lover

That is no rock but musivc genre is "Speed metal" like "Agent Steel" band or "Razor"
or Japan band "Diass " at 1988 year..
