- Many can skate, but not all can handle the stick. The importance of being able to handle the hockey stick is essential for any successful hockey player.
PA Puck's hockey instructor takes you from the basics of stick handling to specific drills which can help improve your stick handling.
I'm 37 just started skating and hockey 4 months ago, I'm learning from these kids :)
This kids are going to be great! I'm an adult relearning hockey after a few years away and this helps.
I have to say. I've been watching a ton of videos and this one is really close to the top. EXCELLENT job explaining. It is important to note that when an adult is explaining things they often take for granted that kids know what they mean and what they are talking about. That is not the case- this coach spoke clearly, specifically and didn't assume that the watcher of the video knew certain skills coming into watching the video. WELL DONE!
Always love your video PP!
Keep up the great work here!
Pav.
Why you here in a Pennsylvania Puck comment section?
I tend to disagree with the bottom hand being that high. If you watch the best stickhandler on earth (Patrick Kane) you'll see his bottom hand is a fair bit lower than what is suggested. This adds strength to the strick, allowing you to rotate the blade quicker, as well as keep strength in the blade. I see a lot of instructors teaching it this way, and I have to say I don't really understand it.
I thought you were the best stick handler in the world? 😂👍🏻
i agree with pavel. i have never seen a player play with his bottom hand so high its much harder takes alot more work and is not very effective
Hey pavel what's up
Pavel Barber for me I tend to use both hands( or it feels like it) but I used to be horrible now I'm the best on the team
Pavel Barber couldn't agree more.
great video! such clear and concise teaching skills....makes me want to try them out : )
jesus! these kids are amazing..sweet hands at that age..WOW!
how can people dislike this video. 32 haters that are not happy with their own life or kids hockey ability. awesome video and good coaching information.
KEGADONSE bots
awesome, holding the stick the right way actually helped me improve my wrist shot as well.
Thanks Pennsylvania puck. Great video education for this hockey mom just starting out
Let’s go Pa puck for representing the state big I’ve got a lot of appreciation for you ♥️👍
Great video. Way to go Jake.
Now I wanna move to Pennsylvania to learn from this guy !!!
Very helpful
Awesome vid
im about 6"0 to 6"1´ what length of stick should i use, im new to hockey and i know its all about preference, but should i only get a Sr. stick or could a 57" intermediate stick also work? considering they are a bit cheaper.
ZUFFAHD i know that method, i was just wondering if there was a way to find out before you try them
+thatoneguy! it would usually say the age group at stores likes junior and intermediate
GREAT VIDEO!!! On an unrealted note, that guy kind of looks like Bill Murray, lol
cool
The kid in the black jersey is amazing
Yup he is in the nhl now
I have Ben practice this all summer
Thank u sooo much
Scott Cook your welcome
Which way should the blade curve for a given handed player? It looks like they are right handed, right hand at top, blade curves to right, shoot from left side. It "appears" that a right hander uses a "left-handed" stick. However a few players I know told me that's wrong, and the "strong" hand goes at the bottom, and shoot across body from right to left if right handed, with a blade that curves to the left. So which is it?
Do you only have to keep one arm bent and the other straight
WONDERFUL
GO FLYERS!!!!!
The Sheriff is a great coach!
nice drills and pretty good for their age... but you need to teach them Heads Up Hockey. If they continue to skate with their head down looking at the puck... They are only setting themselves up for an open ice hit, and possible injury.
That kid's spin-o-rama move though... ouch! Bet he can REALLY burn some opposing players with that in a game.
starting 4:16 what is the name of the background music?
They have some great hands for a bunch of small kids.
I’ve looked at modern-day tutorials and none of them make sense. This is actually good..
i know how to skate! it's just i can't do a stick handling which is i'm learning right now and also thanks to this video :)
Man, I played this in elementary school and I remember being good at it, but we never did anything like this. we just played 1 on 1, no technique required. This looks really hard to learn.
thats where i play
green guy is better at stationary dribbling, orange guy is good at doing them while in action :)
That kids pirouette fake was boss.
🔔👌🏾👌🏾👍🏽👍🏽
it's the opposite for me I learned to stickhandle well in my basement but can't skate for shit lol...
nOOb1hunter lmao sameee
they re all in black jerseys.
Why are you always red?
Why are you brown?
I play Midget House League and these two kids are better than 3/4 of my league ahha
make sure you don't have spatula hands
that was the joke, I'm surprised no one got it.
ah.. ahaha... hahaha
I think the stick handling hand is the bottom hand
Trent Ultimatcx you think wrong. But your bottom hand definitely shouldn’t be as high as his
Trent Ultimatcx Totally wrong. The bottom hand is your power hand. You shoot with your lower hand.
they can probably outplay play you
interesting points ,if anyone else trying to find out off season hockey training program try Skyarza Hockey Coaching Star (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my friend got cool results with it.
