Hey Everyone,
Wanted to update you that I've uploaded a 2024 edition of this tutorial. I've improved the workflows significantly and I believe this is a much easier way to utilize spec maps. Anyhow, thanks for all the support on this video over the years! Happy painting!

This is absolutely the best spec guide I've watched. Great job. My only critique would be not to say "paste" when you're coloring something with the bucket fill tool, as that made me second guess myself a couple times, but overall very, very helpful.
this was the one. I watched loads of videos on spec maps but this one actually made it clear. Thank you!!
Clearly an expert, I watched it about 20 times back and forth, got there in the end, mostly :) cheers
I dont do a lot of stuff in Gimp but that Video was really easy to follow and included all the important steps. I was able to create a Spec Map without any knowledge really before in about 90 minutes with your Video. Specially that you said what the shortcuts on the keyboards are did make it really easy to follow.
By far the best tutorial on the process. So thanks for simplifying it immensely.
Thanks for this tutorial. I watched other videos and just couldn't get things right. Your video helped tremendously! I am painting with ease now. I really appreciate it!
This is IMHO the best video on the matter. Thank you very much!
Thank you this video was a lot easier to follow than all the others i have seen
Fantastic video, thank you !
This has been a lot of help thank you so much
This is a great tutorial brother thank you! filled in a lot of the blanks for me
Thanks you sir! This is just what I was looking for.
Awesome video, Thanks
Great video
the best tutorial yet. still cant get it but oh well.lol
This worked a lot better than iracing's official one. Thanks a bunch!
I got my MX-5's merlot colour scheme to finally look like the actual colour used on the old mk1 mx5!
This is easily the easiest to follow tutorial on Iracing spec maps out there.
I have been unable to follow/figure out how to even approach this, but you laid it out in very simple to understand terms and went at a very appropriate pace for anybody to understand.,
I'm going to try this out after my NIS race today. I'm sure it will be trial and error, but I'm sure this will be fun!
One last question: For the numbers that Iracing assigns in ranked lobbies, is their any way to mess with those, or is that essentially a "this is what you have deal with it" type of thing?
Other than hitting alpha to selection, you can hit the alpha logo on the top of the layers tab and it does the same thing! Great video!
I use GIMP as well but have photoshop as well, I personally find GIMP easier, except for the spec maps, where it’s easier to make spec maps in my opinion
So I get everything right up to. Getting the car on iracing. I upload it to trading paints but I don't see no chrome. What am I doing wrong. How do you get it uploaded
Please show how'd you mixed the colors. 👍🏻 thanks for the cool video
Great tutorial..But question. Can you customize the number color with spec map if your non league racing, where iracing assigns a new number each time? Seems like that wouldnt work.
To make the car chrome I have to find the car document and replace it with the spec map if I'm correct?
Are the car_spec files just for on the fly testing? Or do I have to incorporate that file with the tga somehow to get it into TP?
I have a chome stripe going thru my number and I'm not using a custom number, is there an option to not have the stripe show up on my number without doing your eraser method and having a big number box square on the door? Made an awesome paint.... has dorky number box in the middle of it... or have number with a chrome stripe - both look bad..
is possible custom the random numebrs too? because looks like that u have only the number in ur design...
Hope someone can help. My paint keeps chaing back to default but the spec map stays. I drop the files into the right folder. It shows up in the iracing ui. Once i start up a test session its the default scheme with the spec map still on. Cant figure out what i doing wrong.
I have followed this step by step. I can’t get even the car to become chrome. I could really use the help to figure out what is going on. I have been watching multiple videos and not having any luck.
I made a car kinda shiny and now every paint I make is the same shiny. Who do I get rid of the spec map
I use this on every build. You’d think I’d know it by now.
Why did u paint the base paints couldnt u just paint the stuff from the folders
Hey man i have a custom number chrome scheme and i did the spec map scheme put in the files but it shows sim stamped number so i put the scheme in trading paints pro and i see the chrome scheme but my friends see the one without chrome did i do something wrong?
@@ClassicFuel i figured it out i didnt put the mip file in trading paints thanks
Hey man can u do a vid from start to finish by any chance
Unfortunately I cannot give more than one thumb up.
Save it as a new save what that mean 2:10
I'm more lost then I was before... how many layers do you really need? how many templates of the same car do you really need?? more complex then it needs to be. seriously I'm still lost... I must really be an idiot..
I guess I'm the idiot in the group. I followed this step by step over and over and it jacked up everything. You must need a degree in computer science to follow this. You go way too fast without showing what you are clicking on or doing. Like I'm sitting at your computer, but I'm not and my screen is too small to see what you are doing. Thanks for trashing my paint now I have to remake one
no, YOU CAN NOT EDIT the grill on the current nascars. the older ones, yes. but not the current ones. also why did he double every step?
not easy at all... gave up thrnfirdt time he kept saying "go to this page and get your id number" 500 thousands times
