Simple Matte and Chrome Tutorial - Cisco @ iRacing

- A more down-to-earth and informal explanation of the new Spec Layer files in iRacing and how to create them. I try my best here to simplify the language, but again, don't hesitate to ask questions and I'll do my best to help.
The paint we make here is what could be considered MAX Matte effect with MAX Chrome/Metallic Effect. Remember, play with your brightness percentages, and we may be able to put up a chart with the various paint material types and the number combinations for them....in theory.

Also, if you want to learn more about the actual process this goes through, read the full article on spec maps here:

Finally, if you want some more help, Andrew Cardinale IV streamed himself going through the process, which you can find here:

i wish u would of slowed down there how to seperate the colors cause i need damn help here
I followed your tutorial till right after you delete the base layer and then you go to the top of the page and click on something then over to the tools and click on something else and that's where you lost me. It was so fast I didn't have time to see what you did. I wish someone could slow done so us newbies could see what happens and slow it down. I guess I will never be able to do a spec map .
2 years later and this is the first tutorial I could get to work for chrome and matte, thankyou. I had looked at some other vids for separating colours so was able to implement that. Thanks for your efforts. Alot of negative comments in here but hey atleast you put in a huge effort to try to simplify the process. IT IS NOT A SIMPLE PROCESS. But you made it work for me , cheers mate
yoou shade to black it out but it came out be white still.
Simple and effective many thanks Cisco!
Thank you! This one made much more sense from a workflow point of view.
Cant wait for spec maps to be implemented on the helmet skins too!
THIS video made my life easier! :D Thanks alot Cisco :)
so screaming THANK YOU! Now i get it and it makes sense to me now!!!!
wow
ok
please do just 1 color to Matalic and explain what and why you are doing all those paint overs
you do two many things in the video without telling us WHY
This can still be simplified to a 5 minute video...
This was much easier to follow, thanks mate!
Wow that was amazing bro
Awesome, thanks dude.
You say separate the colors from the template but your just clicking like a mad man and not tell how. You’re doin it, maybe tutorials isn’t your niche
yeah this
Maybe plane your vid first and the film. Thanks
Yay! I did it! Thanks!
This is unnecessarily complicated.
helped a lot. do have some issues. the chrome on the side of the car went over the number and is there anyway i can do this process on a previous paint?
Biggest Question: Do you have to have trading paints pro for this to work?
I'm also using Photoshop Elements and some of the commands aren't the same (When you and I hit the Fx icon, I get a bunch off different images instead of a pop-up window with the color picker).
Could you help me out with why when i use a spec map car the chrome appears as white?
Hi, uploading to iracing's "paints" folder, I don't need to upload it to trading paints?
5th video today... still lost...
I clicked on the tabs under Custom Spec Map ie (Red Channel, Green Channel) etc. and the colors are wrong, anybody know why that might be? The red channel is a light blue, the blue channel is yellow etc. everything in the layer style window is exactly the same as what is in the video except the colors.
Hey ! Very great vid, but I had one question... I don’t have the green folder, is that normal ?
Question, what would be the GIMP equivalent to “Color Overlay”
Does this work out for trading paints?
Thanks for the tutorial really helped out a lot. Was you going to make a new video about how to export the file needed to Trading Paints?
Thanks for the tutorial, it worked. Are other people also able to see the metallic layer or do we have to upload a new file?
I know my way around PS and done quite a few liveries, but this video is still very confusing. You're doing too many things at once and to quick. And some steps seem to happen on another screen. I'm pretty sure there is a much simpler way of explaining all this in less than 5 minutes. I tried following your steps and now my creamy'ish coloured car turns out metallic red. Still can't figure out why and what to do so that this doesn't happen.
Couldn't agree more. The video just makes me angry.
Thanks!!
I am still confused but getting it slowly thanks for a great vid. (I will get this even if I pull all my hair out😄)
I just wanna know how you’re viewing the car while painting
All chromium cars incoming to a trading paints near you...
Thanks Cisco even though you really speed through the commands to achieve the results Yours is the only tutorial that helped me.. What I don't understand is if your seperating out the materials for the different effects why do you put all of them in both red and green spec folders..
i just wanna dchrome my numbers. i have them down to one layer help....
How do you get that photoshop?
It's too complicated.
Is Paint.net able to do this? Thanks
this is a brain scramble omg lol
How did you get such smooth camera movement at 17:10?
i got you! Step one in replay hit CTRL - F12 then hit CTRL - Z.... Space bar to remove hud then its WASD and mouse to move camera. Left and right clicks of mouse zoom in and out. Happy screenshot taking because that what i use to get some nice pc background shots!
Easy! Do what Jay06 did, and then go to the config menu at the bottom and map it to a Gamepad (Xbox, Flightstick, etc.)
you must be using photshop cuz there's no chrome settings with GIMP
still trying to make certain strokes chrome in logos but thats all im struggling with
whatever u want to have chrome, it has to be white in the car_userid.tga
All over the place
do you need trading paints pro to upload spec maps?
no just click on choose paint and add spec map
I give up..
How do you seperate the rgb on gimp
you can't as far as i know
Thank you very much man! But holy shit minute almost 9 and you are only now starting to explain it lmao
still too fast.. and skipping steps. Not sure where I am going wrong. I need a for dummies tutorial.
its just alot of "tutorial vids " use short keys and never say what they are doing.. leaves many with the wtf look on there face
@@Dirtytechnique Would be nice a wrote tutorial. but is iRacing obligation, not his.
So you do need trading paints pro to use these maps, right? I tried selecting a paint in general on trading paints and it didn't show up. If that is the case, it's pretty fucking lame. lol
no just click on choose paint and add spec map
You lost me right at the beginning when you broke out your car pattern into the three colors (red, green and blue) I wish you would have slowed that part down a little. I have been painting in photoshop for a few years and I don't do that normally so I am completely confused!
SImplest way I can put this.
1. Press W, or click on Magic Wand Tool.
2. With everything hidden except your base paint design (with the different colors) select one of the colors. It should put a sparkling line around it.
3. Right click on that selection and select 'Similar'
4. Right click on that selection and select 'Layer via Cut'
5. Do this again for each of the colors on your BASE color scheme layer. His base colors were blue, green, and red. Yours might be grey, white, and blue for example.
Doing this for each color separates them into their own layers.
If this isn't helpful, I suggest you watch this video.
czcams.com/video/LKZz4lXDjuE/video.html
You can do it with magic wand, or in my case in the video, I use the "Color Range" feature (Select at the top, then color range, then click on whichever color in the vinyl layer you want to separate, and make a copy of it, or cut it from that layer)
czcams.com/video/Xk8nJfwOqJc/video.html
Thank you very much, simple works for me!!
I need help. I don't know why, but I can't use the fx function on any folder. fx is grayed out and cannot be clicked
You don't have multiple folders selected, right? That will grey it out. And make sure you don't have any pixel locks or any kind of locks on them either. That will also disable it.
@@Vertscarz Only one folder selected. Locks are off.
@@Vertscarz fx can only be used when I convert a folder to a smart object, but does not convert the folder in the video
@@pavelsuchacek1005 Yea, I can throw effects on folders on my version. I'm not sure why yours isn't.
@@Vertscarz What version of PS do you use? I use the PS CS5 version
You forgot to show how to get the .mip file format that Trading Paints requires for upload.
put ur paint into your folder in iracing and it will make one for you the first time you go out on the track, then you can use it for trading paints.
@@JonSorensen Thanks for that - I found I had to have iRacing running at the same time to see the mip file. When I closed iRacing the mip file disappeared.
Simple... Give it up, will you?
Slow down you are faster than a 12 year old who just tried drinking a whole case of redbull
lol you made such a simple thing into a ant farm
Please answer your iRacing messages. Someone is trying to yell at you for wrecking them when it was their fault
YES PLEASE! Do it on gimp.
we made one for gimp users that is a bit easier to understand and create
SRTV Network Man thank you so much.
@@SRTVNetwork Did you upload the video yet?
@@Digital_504 yes it's available to watch
"Simple"
So metalic layer is in red channel, matte in green channel. So you make red color in matte, and blue/green in metalic. Not confusing at all. ..... Completly useless tutorial
Thanks but way too confusing to follow
glad i didn't watch the complicated video
lost interest @ 8 mins. confusing af
Just copying what iRacing's tutorial said smh my head
Ridiculously complicated........;((
Thanks!!!
