  • In this video series, I walk you through step by step how to paint your own unique and one-of-a-kind paint to use on iRacing. Don't be afraid to give it a try, it's not complicated!
Spec Map "Cheat sheet" - gabirmotors.com/specmapping
Part 3 - Spec Maps! Finish off your one-of-a-kind paint by adding special paint effects using "spec maps". Create matte, glossy, metallic, and chrome finishes, and layer them to create a unique look that will take your scheme to a complete different level. Once you've got the look you want, you upload the scheme to Trading Paints and add the Spec Map using the MIP file, and you are done!

Never one to leave comments but for this series you did, I thought I should. As a designer myself, I always found the part having to separate the design and getting the spec map for iracing the most annoying. You really simplified it & made it so easy to understand. Well done!! Now I know a great video to refer people to

Always can appreciate totorial videos on things like this. However. This can be extremely simplified. Also CTRL click Creates a pixilated layer in the alpha layers. Just CTRL J the layer you want and move it into the position you want. And just color over lay it.

Next time I’m painting I’ll have to try that! Thanks! Always more to learn.

if you use Trading paints, but design the car in gimp, and upload to TP it will only show the custom number if you have trading paints pro right?

Is this the same process for Adobe Illustrator as well?

I have noticed that the colours in the iRacing viewer especialy chrome do not look the same as when in game. In game they look more like you expect them to be.
I never got to the end of this video, I should have as it would have saved me time in getting the stickers correct. I ended up cutting them out of the spec map part. It worked but not as easy as you showed here. So thank you very much. Still my goto series to paint car.
I would like to see how you would start in photoshop if you had a blank canvas template, adding the stripes and graphics etc. I am not super proficient in photoshop I am more of and illustrator man,

Yeah the Viewer really isn't great. The lighting doesn't really translate at all. Best you can do is getting close then load into a Test session and look at it and see if it's exactly how you want it.
