  • Hello Shiny Crafty People and welcome back to the channel! I'm Tim Totten and today we're transforming two Pioneer Woman placemats into a super easy and fun casserole carrier!
Have you ever gifted someone a pan of brownies or a lovely homemade casserole and wanted a better way to present it? Tired of losing your best casserole dish? This entire ensemble cost just $13 in materials and makes a great item you can either gift or not worry about getting back if they forget to return it!
Here's a breakdown of what I used to make this project:
2 Placemats (Pioneer Woman Patchwork from Walmart): $6.94 for two
1 13x9 Metal Pan with Lid (from Dollar General): $5.00
1 Strip of Hook & Loop Fastener (11" pieces): Less than $1.00
    Matching thread
    Sewing Machine
    Scissors
I've made two more of these since recording this video and I was able to complete them in less than 10 minutes each!
What an easy way to coordinate with your own decor or to complement the decor of the person you're gifting to! Imagine seeing a special design on someone's gift registry and getting additional placemats to make gifts like this to go with it.
Thanks again for joining me and, until next time, stay crafty!

One of my favorite sewing tools from the Dollar Tree is masking tape. It is great for holding things in place when I am stitching, and I can even sew over it and then remove it with no residue or tiny bits left under the stitching. It is quite easy to sew right next to the edge of the masking tape, pick it up and move it to the next section, especially for quilting straight lines.

I love how simple you make projects for us. I also and so thankful to see your errors in process. While you were initially sewing this I was saying you were doing it wrong, (and I am a novice sewer). I giggled when you realized your error. So much like how I work when sewing things myself.

Boxed corners can be sewn on the right side, folded over and held with a button. Then add buttons to the top flap where the sides are folded in for the style design, or rather, as decoration to match the other end, even if Velcro or another closure is used. I don’t trim away the triangle when I make boxed corners, because the triangles add support to the bag.

I like the idea of what you did so many things you could add to it. Even some lace sewn in would be very rustic and cute. Good video I subscribed. I’ll chk out the rest of your vids. Sys

What a great idea ! 😃I'm definitely going to try this one. It's might also be adaptable to other sizes. How cool would it be to buy someone a beautiful casserole dish & lid then make make the carrier. However, when you bring it over have some food in the dish. Could be brownies , a casserole or a crumble. Almost anything would work. I think it'd be a really nice gift for newlyweds or a new home. I've always thought it'd be nice to buy some of those beautiful placements & sew them together like you did in the 1st step to make a runner for your table or as a gift. Anyway, first time on your site & a great experience. 👍 kj from Florida 😊

If your threader is not working, it’s an indication that your needle is not placed all the way up before screwing it on.
