    A great video to watch , the hornby locomotive looks very robust and a credit to you keeping them running .

      Hornby-Dublo locos of that era are indeed very robust : I still have my 'City of London' loco from the late 1950s , along with a Class 20 Diesel , both of which were part of the train set my father bought me as a child ( I'm 65 now ) and both still running perfectly . Alas , my young son ( aged 14 ) caught the bug thanks to Thomas The Tank Engine and some of the Hornby models from 10 or so years back ; then he moved on to models of actual locomotives . Unfortunately the modern Hornby stuff is not nearly as well constructed as those of yesteryear , and he has , amongst others Mallard , Tornado , Flying Scotsman , several other A4s and other locos ; most of which were purchased new as part of complete train sets , and have not been abused , yet they suffer from issues with the pins holding side rods falling out , running issues due to poor pickup or motor faults ; yet my 60 year old locos just keep on running ! Of course the same is true with cars and many other things - alas everything nowadays is made to a price .

    A fantastic and very informative video , applicable I would imagine to most electric locos . While my own couple of locos are Hornby-Dublo 2 rail models from the late 1950s , and my young son has a lot of more modern Hornby locos , much of what you have shown should apply to many of them . I recently bought from you the magnetiser , which has helped with some locos which had been in storage for a while and lost their magnetism , but the tips shown in this video will help me to further improve the running of some of them .
    If , I may ask , while my son's layout is entirely 2 rail , I believe some people have converted 3 rail locos to run on 2 rail track . Aside of the purist position ( as with classic cars ) of keeping things original ; could you comment on the process of conversion , and whether the original pickups etc can be put back if one wishes at a later date to restore a loco to original spec ? I could be minded to obtain some 3 rail locos ( which can still be bought relatively cheaply ) and convert for 2 rail operation , as long as I would not be doing irreparable damage which would prevent them being returned to original spec at some point in the future ?
    Might this be something you could do a video on , or can you point me to an existing video ?

      Hi, Thanks for your kind comments, converting from 3 to 2 rail is not so easy as the wheels need to be isolated on one side as I only run 3 rail I have never done this although I have converted 2 rail to 3 which is much easier.

    Hi Ronald good evening, sorry to bother you again I have started to laying my track the locos at the moment will not run using the gauge master controller I have been watching your channel on track work which has help me out a lot on track work if you can give me some advice on what I might be doing wrong many thanks Colin.

    • @Raedodd5
      @Raedodd5  Před rokem

      Hi Colin as long as you have power to the track (to check your controller use a multi meter or put the wires direct to the pickup and wheel of your loco) then there may be a short circuit in you track, see my 'trackwork' video, although I only do 3 rail.
