- Completely updated for the 2023 model year, the Kia Sportage is Kia's longest-running nameplate here in the States and is now among the largest in its class. Add to that additional size a hybrid powertrain that increases the power and efficiency over the gas-only variants and you have an appealing package.
We sampled this SX-Prestige Hybrid AWD trim and quickly found a lot to love.

Just bought the 2023 plug in hybrid at MSRP no markups or addons. It was the matte grey one as well. We freaking love it :)

Thinking about buying this vehicle but NOT when the local dealers are marking them up several thousand dollars!
Its a great vehicle. I understand about not wanting to pay markup. Hopefully supply can meet demand sooner rather than later and help alleviate this issue.

$3k per car isn't going to magically get the dealership more cars. They are price gouging plain and simple

@@GTGarageTalk I get that, but dealers are getting more and more ridiculous with the amount of markup they are putting in. 3k on a Sportage 5k on a Telluride is too much. I want one but I'll just go without before I pay that.

How do you think this stacks up against the Honda CRV Hybrid (Sport Touring)? Have you tested that?
We have not tested that yet.
Honda definitely has the better reputation for reliability, but at this moment we cannot speak from experience between the two. Soon…

Sometimes I say it that way for fun
The obvious alternative would be the EX or EX premium trim, which gets you the same basic platform, minus some of the gadgets and features - only one 12" screen instead of two, no blind spot camera or 360 around view, no cooled seats, and some other stuff. It's quite a bit cheaper.

@@sakettalware6923 incorrect. As I drove this model I can testify it does have adaptive cruise, or as Kia calls it "Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go"
@@GTGarageTalk I thought only the SX Prestige trim had the adaptive cruise control. The lower trims don't. That's really good if those trims have adaptive cruise control.

This is the same exact engine in my Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid. I did want this Sportage hybrid in the top trim in Red but the nearest one was 2,000 miles away from N California. I also wanted the hybrid Sorento, but it only came with the third seat option(which is stupid of Kia) I went with the Hyundai limited hybrid and never looked back!
But what MPG did you actually get? I can't find anyone who actually gets 38
We only had it an hour. No real testing of the mpg. We’ve requested a test vehicle from Kia.

@@nathankeel4308 I ordered on June 8. I haven’t received it yet. As of 2 weeks ago Kia hadn’t even began building it yet. I’m told October is probably when it will arrive.
@@nathankeel4308 The dealership I borrowed this from gets multiples in each week. Trucks arrive multiple times a day and their lot is full.

Similar to the EV6 we tested. However, we did not have this vehicle long enough to do a thorough test.

Nice review but you need to sit in the back seat since most people buying a vehicle like this the backseat room is very important.
Unfortunately this one sold while I had it, which cut my time with it short. I tested another one though and had more time with it

I want to like this, and I do like it a lot as a car, but I don't believe Hyundai priced it right. The hybrid is definitely the one to go with. However, having to go up to the upper spec trims in order to get some of the safety features that we're seeing as standard on common cars is a deal breaker for me. You have to really like the Sportage to buy one at the upper spec level...there's just too many other good car at that price point.
I guess you are speaking about Highway Driving Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist-Parallel Exit, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist, and the Blind-Spot View Monitor, because most of the true safety tech in the Sportage Hybrid is standard at the $27,290 starting MSRP.
@@GTGarageTalk I don't know what you mean by "true safety tech" considering Kia themselves lists all those under their Safety category. Also, almost all those rear detection systems(blind spot, rear traffic avoidance, exit assist, highway assist, etc) are actually run off one detection system that manipulates data for different safety aspects. So it's not like you're optioning different safety systems when they are all run/powered by one module. Kind of like how you can make a backup camera switch angles, but then advertise the car for having different backup camera options. It's all one system.
One thing I forgot to mention before, the Kia Sportage DOES NOT have a true adaptive cruise control, no matter the trim level. The Navigation-based cruise control only works on very specific federal and state highways. You can't use it on normal connecting freeways or even streets like you can on a normal adaptive cruise system similar to what you see on their competitors. It's a VERY limited system that has a LOT of issues. Just google "kia navigation cruise control problems".
@@iggibars oouuu thank you cause now I will do my research. Adaptive cruise control on my civic works even when I’m on a 30 mph residential street. The adaptive cruise control on the sportage will be make or break for me
