I made exactly the same statement when my husband died and just over a year later one of my precious sons died . Both were accidental deaths and I said to my children “ why not us , would we wish this tragedy on another family “. I have faith that God has a plan and I have no idea what it is however I know God knew my family was strong enough to endure these tragedies , never get over them but go on carrying the pain as we all do in our own way and lives .

Jesus himself God in the flesh was tortured and crucified. Why didn't he save himself? That's exactly what the romans said similar to your remarks. You have no understanding of god. This is why Jesus while being crucified said " forgive them father for they don't know what they are doing".

I did look very critically at the idea of a God. I also looked very critically at atheism. I grew skeptical of skepticism. I found myself feeling very cynical about cynicism. I did what all good mathematicians do: I turned every situation upside down, and checked my math. In the end, I found that atheism is the height of hypocrisy. Every detrimental criticism that atheism uses against Christianity is equally detrimental when applied to atheism itself. It just didn't hold up to scrutiny.

The word salad comes from being critical cynicism and sceptical of scepticism. Real scepticism would be to ask how a book inspired by a supreme being was used to establish Catholicism but has been used to split that church into 30,000 different denominations. I have said for years the real war is in the church not on the church. Atheism is growing because the God of the gaps is shrinking not because atheist are asking question.

Truth always holds up to scrutiny. Nothing that is true has ever been proved false. But truth is sometimes overshadowed by lies for a very long time.
I have faith in salvation in Christ. What I was trying to get across was that I also have faith in the love of God. You said yourself that you once knew God. You said you wanted to get closer to God. That kind of love is true, and powerful. So I have faith that it can have subtle strength over your doubts about Christ. I've seen it work.

People rarely listen to someone who is not teaching from their world view. Usually someone who has experienced God will never be talked out of it. and someone who does not want God will rarely be talked into it. In the bible Jesus taught in Parables for the very purpose that those who desire God will understand and those that don't will be confused. It seems that God reveals himself to those that desire him and won't be found of them who don't

The "punishment" is crazy harsh. But it is also self-imposed. People CHOOSE to go to hell. Nobody was ever sent there against their will. Nobody. Everybody that is in hell got there because they made a choice to turn from God.
Putting somebody in "reahab" won't help anything if they don't want to change. If 60-100 years of torment on earth doesn't convince somebody to quit doing whatever they want, and turn to God, what makes you think that 100 (or 100k) years of torment in hell would do it?

What is before the Universe? God would have to be such a being. Space & time were not there, so immaterial, unchanging,& timeless. Powerful since He started the Universe. He also would have to be personal (if not you are talking about a natural law).
That is a fair description of the Christian God. The only thing lacking is moral goodness, but that comes for the moral argument. Since there are objective morals that exist, there must be an objective law giver. This is the maximally Good being. These laws flow from His nature. This is God.

Who are we, the creation, to talk back to our creator? God allows what we call evil. As creator that is his right to do so. We do not have the knowledge and wisdom of our creator. We are to submit and obey our creator, and experience the Vastness of God's Love.

Uncontrolled desire is how sin becomes destructive, not only against you but others as a whole.
The concept of love come from God. the commandment love they neighbor as they self is simple. its the practice and ones on desire that is in conflict.
Then add what Paul said was the greatest gift, it was not love, he said charity towards others, either believer or pagan nonbelievers. its not up for debate or our interpretation. we simply have to act on it. then see what the results are.

It is true that people are turned away from Christianity because of Christians' behavior, but here is was said that they turn away because the Christians' confession is so different from their practice.
I have thought much about this, and I find the error in religion. Our confession isn't the problem, it is that we treat people so contrary to our confession. So what is the Christians confession? I don't know what yours is, but mine is that "I AM A SINNER IN NEED OF A SAVIOR, AND JESUS, THE SON OF GOD, IS THE ONE AND ONLY SAVIOR."
So then, why are we so hateful to sinners. Could it be that we feel superior to them? This is the message that the world gets, so when they see Christians sinning they see it as a contradiction to our confession. The sinning Christian is a shame, but It is not a contradiction to his/her confession.
Nothing good that comes from me is due to me, but is due to Christ in me. I am a sinner saved by grace, righteous and justified by the death, burial and resurrection of the Savior, Jesus Christ, the Lord.
Christians, let's remember our confession, and let's love fellow sinners, the children of wrath, so that they might see and know our Savior and experience His grace as we have (Ephesians 2:1-9).

On miracles... Jesus was not a big fan of them, for he knew that people who depend on miracles to believe, have a very shallow belief system. Once the miracles are gone, they are too. At his baptism, he turned over control of his attendant celestial hosts to his Father. So, when his mother comes along and wanted him to do something about the shortage of wine at the wedding in Cana, his human self wanted to please his mother, but he had promised himself not to use any of his creative powers, and to win people over purely based on his humanness. But the simple moment of wanting his mother to be happy, created an opportunity which his Father used to green-light the angels jumping in and manufacturing the wine. Jesus was as surprised as everyone else at the sudden supply of wine.
People today are the same way. We love the miracles, but rarely stop to say 'thank-you'.

Well, I personally wouldn't count you out as hell-bound just yet. My grandpa served in the Korean war, and a couple of atheists he served with got VERY religious when it came time to die. The fact that you know the Bible and once believed in God is enough for me. I don't feel the need to evangelize to you. I trust the power of God enough to let it do the work that needs to be done.
You see, it doesn't matter if you believe in God or not. He believes in you. And that is what changes you forever.

I only asked you if you knew any amputees that have prayed for a restored limb. Or are you only making a baseless assumption.
What obligation does God have to heal amputees? Where in the Bible does it say this?

if God truly is omnipotent, why not change reality? I believe there is a God, and the only explanation I see is "God enjoys pain". But we can go a step further, "God wants people in pain to reach out to him and establish a relationship with him through that"... but what about those people who don't know him? And why not just appear to us before pain appears in order to start the relationship? Oh, right. The problem of sin... and the cycle continues...

God is infinitely more able to handle reality than you or I. Thus, if God does it this way, there is a clear reason. Asking the unanswerable question will never prove or disprove your claims here. All you know is that it is, why is beyond you. Start with solid answers from places you can access & then go on to these after exhausting those.
I would wager that you never get back to this question. There are so many you need to first answer to begin to tackle this.

Like John Lennox said, a follower of Christ is defined by Christ as those who DO as He directs His followers to do. This does not seem to be something that is being recognized or absorbed. This matters. Because the Inquisitors certainly were working on a political agenda and disregarding the way of Christ, thats is, if we read Matthew, Mark, Luke or John of the New Testament . Its very important to come to the reality is that the boundaries of our human mortality does not define the boundaries of our life beyond this temporal age. This age is but an apprenticeship for the ages to come and we daily are making a choice of whether we will stand alone in those ages or be an eternal part of the community of Christ.

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
    Matthew 10:34 kjv
But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.
    Luke 19:27 kjv
I believe that during the time of Jesus, He was bringing His kingdom to earth and Peter may have been the first servant. Jesus' kingdom was not yet set up on earth.
When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.
    John 6:15 kjv
But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.
    Matthew 12:28 kjv
Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
    John 18:36 kjv
I believe Jesus was not a rebel, so He did not allow Peter to fight for Him and He then healed the priests ear.
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
    1 Samuel 15:23 kjv

All these guys that are Apologetics ,..believers and love and trust God and Jesus,...they are all
nice guys ,sincere, smart ,studied........my only problem with them is that they get too involved in an answer when someone asks a question. After a few minutes I'm all confused ...most of the questions are pretty simple and common sense. I really do not wonder, have no questions what I don't know I leave it like that,...one day I'll know all I want to... Jesus was asked a lot of questions at that time by the people,...and He was pretty simple about it.Today is another ...world...I'm very.....SKEPTICAL about everything.
