    Isn't it exciting when the fruits of your hard work pays off. Getting edibles and flowers home grown...there's nothing like it. Plus the flavour of home grown is so much more nourishing.
    A job well done, both of you. Xx😊 🥕 🍅 🍃 🌸

    We are finishing up our planting. But in the meantime we caught a mother ground hog and her six babies and we released them down in the woodsy area on the river side. Town is no place for them and they will be happier in their natural habitat. They are notorious garden destroyers. We was able to catch the mother last fall but she managed to destroy what was left of our garden.

    Rather than using weed soup for tomatoes my Dad used to put some nettle leaves in the hole before planting the tomato on top. When the nettles broke down it would fertilise the tomato.

    Morning glories can easily become a noxious weed if you don’t keep it under control at least in the US. In my 50+ years of gardening I have never seen a carrot fly. We just plant them and let them grow. Thinning and weeding is a hard task with the carrots.

    So fun to watch! You planted so many plants I’ve never heard of before, either because we don’t commonly grow them in the US, or because I live in a place that gets so hot and dry by late July and August. Or because the non-indigenous who first settled this area weren’t from the British Isles (they were primarily Scandinavian and German).
    I’ll have to watch again and write down names to look them up! 😁
    I’ve certainly never heard of a “red dandelion” - and thank goodness for that. It’s Gigantic!!! 😱 I have a horrible problem keeping dandelions to a minimum, so giant ones might send me over the edge. 🤣

    You ladies have a wonderful garden! I planted a container garden and I am so chuffed, everything came up except the peppers. I will have to reseed those but that is not bad. Only one of my okra seeds sprouted so I'll have to reseed those as well. All in all I'm happy, I will have to post a picture for you to see. I have beans, okra, tomatoes, yellow cucumbers, lettuce, kohlrabi, zucchini and blueberries. Thanks for sharing with us!

    I love your garden and all the things you have planted! wonderfully done! If I may suggest with red dandelion , Try making a bacon dressing with it, you might like it better. I cube boiled eggs and onions and slice mushrooms along with frying the bacon and I use vinegar, honey and a dollop of milk at the end to make the dressing. that's Pennsylvania Dutch style. :)

    • @MudlarkingWithKitCaboodlers

    • @debrabrooks6138
      @debrabrooks6138 Před 3 měsíci

      Also the older the leaves the more bitter, best picked young and growing in the shade. I use bacon dressing for most wild greens, garlic mustard, field mustard, dock, yellow Dock, Field cress and penny cress, they are called bitter greens or greasy greens, I would love to try wild ramps, haven't found any yet. Do you pick wild mushrooms? They make a leaf ID APP and a Mushroom ID App now, ehh I prefer to learn on my own and take pictures of plants, flowers and herbs.

    Fleur, there is a specific knot that works for tying a tripod. Don't know what it is, but I have seen it. I'm just learning the knot that is used on the clothes line so all I'll have to do is pull on the knot to tighten it. Who knew, huh?

      We put the earth down on cardboard that is why we had to use the pole to pierce it. Putting down compost first reduces the need to weed and keeps the soil moister :)

      For people who want to grow flowers/ herbs/ veggies who may not have the space on their own property or live in an apartment. The local council provides a piece of land which is divided up . A bit like a community garden except each individual has their own allotment. Sometimes you have to go on a waiting list. Sometimes there might be a small rent.
