Live on Whidbey Island, WA. We had gorse planted on Cliff sides as a deterrent from invaders in WWII. Now the gorse is considered an invasive species that must be removed and destroyed. My mother cooked dandelion leaves in bacon. A delicious dish that is high in good vitamins. I purchased a gingko, and three other trees that bear berries for the birds last fall. Now that ground is moist and we just have all the Spring flowers, elderberry (red), even the weeping willow has started to bud. Love the beautiful jumper/sweater your mother made for your birthday--a very Happy Birthday. My Aunt Madeline, also my namesake, had a sewing basket. It was fun to see packaging from the 1940-1960 in it. All the pins and needles were rusty as the basket was in her home in FL where the moisture level is high. Be safe out in the weather changes. 😊

I could taste spring watching this lovely post. Its the first day of spring today for me 1st of March. My favourite season. Green and growth. Beautiful. To make do and mend, to a certain point, is in my blood. Its how i was brought up. Seeing you using that strange darning device was fascinating. I'm more used to using a darning mushroom...but haven't used one since i was a teen. I don't ever seem to get holes in jumpers, but do quite a bit of sewing. Its good to see mending going on in this throw away society we seem to have. I do think maybe times are slowly changing. What goes round comes round. Vintage seems very popular. Mending might just become a new trend. 🤔 😊 Awe and to finish on the busy bee's recovery was lovely to see. 🐝 xx
I love that you want to mend things and keep using. I like to do that myself. Wish I lived closer I could teach you to knit a patch right on your sweaters. The woven ones work just as well though. Fleur your knitting skills are great! What a lovely jumper. I don't do color work and I've been knitting for about 20 years. Bravo! I am sure the bee thoroughly appreciated the drink! My sister has exactly the same metal darning tool and I've done a few dreadful repairs on one of my pairs of trousers with it 😂 We also have the same black compost bin that is about 20 years old now... We get really good compost from it and TONNES of worms and wood lice 😂 Such a sweet bumble bee! We had a cold bee the other day too. They just need a rest every now and then this time of year until the sun warms them again.

I've just bought wool tapestry yarn to mend my wool sweaters, so this video is just right for me. I haven't darned sweater holes, my grandmother had a darning egg. I have seen small dried gourds used as darning eggs also. Thank you!
