      He wants the judge to make a comment about just that. That would instantly become a mistrial. If the judge acknowledges what he did as fact before the verdict, the lawyers will say the judge is biased and has a pre-determined agenda.
      This is an absolute last ditch effort, and the risk of being disbarred is worth it to the lawyers, because if they actually got a mistrial, every school shooter will want these lawyers thinking they too will get a mistrial.
      Unfortunately for them, the judge is well aware of what they are trying to do. Although, it almost seemed like she was getting very close to slipping up there for a second. So, She needed to take a breath to clear her head.

    Nobody should be defending this. It doesn't matter if they don't want to be there or they're stressed. There is an expectation that they act professional in a court of law. If you don't understand that, you have no business being an adult, let alone commenting on someone's professional conduct. These people were making a mockery of the trial, and for what? To get a mistrial, at best? They are legally and morally required to defend the defendant to the best of their ability... ethically. But intentionally aiming for a mistrial by trying to get the judge mad goes beyond responsibilities as a lawyer and, at best, is trying to benefit from a high profile case. Even if they did get a mistrial, it would just start the process over again. There was no winning here, so the least they could do was have some respect in such a terrible case. But no, they were laughing with the *school shooter* like he was their friend. This right here is the reason so many people think lawyers are terrible people, and that defence lawyers are self-serving scumbags.

    Like with any school shooting the trial should be whether or not the shooter leaves the courthouse to prison for life, or put immediately into death row. Any legal team disrespecting the judge should be kicked out and their licences revoked and their client receives maximum penalty. Especially when it's all recorded.

      He's already gotten his sentence, 1, the penalty phase of trial is over, that happened a few weeks back now. He got life in prison. 2. That idea is ridiculous because of how easily it'd be misused. 3rd. given that legal representation is a right of the client and can be assigned if you cannot get it yourself. how on EARTH can you expect a client to be held accountable for their lawyers behavior like that. plenty of people already get screwed by bad public defenders let alone if they could just get punished by proxy because of bad representation in RULE. not everyone on trial is guilty, thats the whole point of a trial. fck.

    • @alexmatthews3419
      @alexmatthews3419 Před rokem +1

      @Lol Lol Two reasons; its the trial wrap up, the verdict is the clippable part for news coverage that is typically followed, but there's also the core thing that you can even hear going on in the clip. The victims have a chance to speak to the defendant in what's called a "victim impact" statement. While many of these people were people who testified on the stand, an impact statement isnt being offered for the jury in their decision so its done after the fact. What the defense attorney is upset about is the fact that in these impact statements they're issuing threats to their families specifically because the defendant got life instead of the death penalty. The judge and prosecutor didn't have a hand in them, though, but there's other mess in the trial going on that's led to a generally hostile environment between the two parties (state, defense) and the judge.

      @@NeoBluereaper It's one highly publicized trial where the defendant in question was unquestionably wrong and plead guilty. That's my high school. I was already out of it when it occurred but I grew up in broward county. If we'd still lived in Florida my younger brother literally would have been in that building when it occurred. I'm not challenging the horror of what took place there.
      but thats not what I'm talking about. There are literally hundreds of so-called open and shut cases where because of lazy police work or shoddy prosecution the wrong person goes up on the stand. And yes. I believe in our judicial system. It's important that even the worst individual is treated fairly under the law, otherwise the law itself is tarnished. Otherwise people who are perceived to have committed something heinous but may not have are in danger; you can't just assume it'll only be used in these sorts of cases where there is no doubt, if a tool is created it will be used. We are not a dictatorship and judges don't get to decide a mans fate on their own.

NGL if I was in a situation like that, even if I knew it was hopeless, I don't think I'd be strong enough to face my own demise like that. Luckily I don't kill people though so it's a reality I'll never face but still, theoretically putting yourself in that situation is such a dilemma.

      Prison isn't that bad. Sure, it isn't as good as being free, or even fun at all really, but it isn't constant torture or anything like that. You can still watch some tv for a little bit, read some books, do workmanship tasks, write books, draw art, etc. In fact, I would say that prison is actually a step up in quality of life compared to about half my childhood was. Mostly people would take an imperfect and uncomfortable and slightly boring and dangerous life over just straight up being dead.
