      Absolute proof that he would hurt more people if this hadn't gone exactly like this, even in the courtroom deciding his own life he chose to use that window purely for the purpose of punishing and hurting the judge and all related victims with one last hurrah before he gets locked up.
      I guarantee he tries over the years to get opportunities to have interviews or anything. Hope he rots in solitary.

      I always wondered this. What happens when he dies? Do they just keep the body or ashes? Do they have a warehouse of dead murderers and psychopaths somewhere in a southwestern desert that is cataloged and accounted for and every once in a while the descendants of some of them get the remains to bury or toss? Or do they say F it and dump the body in the Mariana Trench?

    I love that prior to sentencing, Brooks said that the court should take into consideration that he had already served a year behind bars and that should be deducted from his sentence. I wish someone would have said after sentencing, "Congratulations Darrell on finishing that first year, only 1361 years left!!"

Plus I think the law says she is following procedure. Look at Wisconsin statute 809.86 and 950.

    "Frankly you deserve it". Hes never been accountable for anything wrong hes done in his pathetic life. He was never told NO. The fact it was a powerfull women with authority who finally held him accountable was the cherry on top. Im so glad she didnt give him time served for the battery with erica like he wanted and that she gave him 9 months consecutive to all other counts since that was the only charge he cared about.

    I really liked the fact she read the sentences for each victim. Drilling into the mind of the suspect, letting him know his attempt to turn attention to himself the whole trial was pathetic and useless. Took away whatever power he thought he had during the trial and brought him back to reality. Kudos to the judge and hope the families get some comfort from this.

Just send the evil entity to meet his maker, or if the law doesn't allow that, life without chance if parole or financial gain, and move on. Substance over symbolism.     The way she slowly said "17 and a half years for each (Victims' name, I believe 61 times?) ... was absolutely BRILLIANT, just as EVERYTHING she carefully considered during the entirety of this crazy trial. She would be an amazing Law Teacher !!!! Hope she takes a nice, month long vacation!!!

      What you say is certainly true in a way. However, those who have worked in public service will know this is true: The Judge will probably go home, do her best to put this behind her, and tomorrow she will wake up and say "Ok...on to the next difficult/horrendous case".
      Though this case does stand out in terms of how horrific it was, for those who work in the justice system, there is no way to truly be free, there are just ways to steel yourself and get through it.

    I have never seen a trial where there were multiple casualties like this and the judge named every single victim when handing down the sentences. This was class, an absolutely superb showing of empathy and compassion for the victims and professionalism towards the court and all parties involved. Well done Your Honor. Well done.     Love that she also ordered him to pay restitution. That means limited or no commissary, and no money from relatives, to pay for luxuries (such as they are in prison).       Natalie - it was very powerful not to just read off one group of charges but to say the victims names individually because they all matter. I'm so glad this waste of space on our planet got what he deserved. I wish him a long long life - I hope he lives to be 100 so his victims and their families know he's lonely, suffering and isolated - unable to hurt anybody else and living a miserable day to day routine. He's small - so his dance card will always be full inside. As a former correctional officer - likely he will be isolated because he's a high-profile offender.       To an extent for other certain charges. Life sentences would obviously stay. His lawyers would just knock off maybe a max of 5-8 years if that. But wouldn’t make a difference. They would also suggest special treatment for him but wouldn’t fall through with the severity of the case.

      That's not how that works. A judge can say whatever when sentencing someone to prison. She can say that he must sleep on the prison floor for 30 days but that doesn't mean it will happen. Once the person is convicted in the courtroom that person is out of the judges hair and the county jail will take over and after that will state will take over. Do you really think that prisoners are making money like that in prison? The family will receive fifty cents each month? Judges sometimes say things like that for the courtroom but it never meant to stick.

      While I absolutely agree with you, you can't blame it on the Judges. They have sentencing guidelines and have to abide by the laws of the state. He wasn't in the federal system (much harsher sentencing). Look up things like "How Does a Judge Decide What Sentence To Impose on a Defendant?" it'll frustrate the heck out of you.

      I just wish justice swung both ways. There are too many that get away with less time. We need more judges like her. But, please be sure without a reasonable doubt they are guilty, because mistakes cost the tax payers and the innocent. So many people have been found to be innocent and have spent almost their entire lives in prison. But, in this case, he is guilty and he doesn't deserve to walk around and kill anymore innocent people. Justice was served. This guy was totally a killer.       Unfortunately the constitution states that everyone has the right to a fair trial and impartial court. Under the constitution, the judges conduct is not impartial. Because of her conduct, the defendant was offered an appeal due to inappropriate judicial conduct. She's a clown, if she really cared about locking this guy away for life she would've remained composed and wouldn't have thrown anything.

      Yeah, I was just about to comment on this. The clapping is inappropriate courtroom behavior no matter how much it's probably deserved. Most judges would tell them to stop clapping or cheering, whatever (even if the defendant is a POS).

      Wisconsin (am I right in thinking that is where this was held?)seems to have the best judges ever! Judge John D. Hyland who ruled on the CH case was awesome too! Huge respect to both of these judges! There are probably more but I just haven't seen them in action to give an opinion yet.

    As soon as she started with the actual sentencing, he FINALLY looked defeated. It was glorious. I also love how she allowed clapping for the life sentences, then asked for there to be more reactions. She had complete control, and that's what drove DB extra crazy during this trial.

    Everybody thought she was bending over for him and she showed in these last two days that she knew what she was doing and she was not playing. And he saw it and realized it on this last day. She read the reports that mental illness did not contribute to the attack. She read all his last convictions. And she addressed him directly. This woman was amazing.

      I think that was a good part of why he got max sentence on every count and consecutive. She just hated him that much by the end. Hopefully he doesn't end up thinking he's a badass for having a thousand year sentence though
