The tone of this video is giving me a very strong Iraq War era Alex Jones feel, and that's a good thing. Before Alex Jones realized he could make more money from the right wing conspiracy grift, he used to be a legitimately good source of news that countered the garbage the mainstream media establishments were churning out at the time (basically just pro war propaganda, not to dissimilar to what's happening right now.)
I love this. I came here in 2014 for the straight fire CS content, but the political/'real world' side of your content has grown to honestly become my favorite.
I came here a couple of years ago to listen to Rich and Thorin shit on League of Legends, stayed for the great content and have been quietly enjoying it ever since
Richard Lewis seems like the only sane person that engages with political content online, and is not extremely biased and partisan, or a grifter that just goes with whatever is the current hot opinion to have, but just looks at things from the perspective of a decent moral upstanding intelligent person, that sees through the bullshit on all sides of the political aisle.
Based content - can't wait for more. I went to Africa in the beginning of the pandemic. Each morning, I would go down to the hotel lobby and pick up one of the many 2 inch thick newspapers. The articles reminded me of what can described as "the golden age of journalism". Hard-hitting, honest, and seriously investigative. Stories of assassinated politicians, local/int'l corruption, companies misbehaving, important opinion pieces. The people who wrote in genuinely cared about the future of their country. The men and women who worked at those newspapers were rockstars. I've not read a European newspaper with so little explicit bias. The best part? They wrote intelligently, structured the articles and arguments properly. Every single one of the articles, that I read, had immaculate grammar. It was as if I was back in English class. I loved it. It was an orgasmic moment. I'd never felt so optimistic about the future, as i did those days. Journalism can and should do better. It matters.
If there was a "clearing of the board" in mainstream media, and there was a legitimate movement to have honest, accurate, and ethical journalism would you rise to do something outside of eSports to bring your ethos to the profession? The World needs people of your character, and quality in that space desperately.
I can't wait for future episodes. Its easy to lose track of all the nonsense from the media since there is so much of it then google makes it impossible to find. My 'friends' have already forgotten about most of this stuff and still believe the lies

It's the Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn commencement address at Harvard University on June 6, 1978, titled "A world split apart". In it he touches upon the lack of moral obligation of western media, at the time, and ties it to the distorted view freedom of speech, and how it acts as an excuse from the obligation of truthfulness of speech. So much of journalism now is basically just retweeting another article, who's writer didn't do any research and just accepted the words of their "sources" as gold.
This was great. It is great to see more people with integrity standing up for the truth. I've often said, I don't care if you like him or not. But criticise him for the things he does wrong and I'll be there with you. The ramifications for the death of truth and the alliance between the Democrats and the media have only just begun to play out. No matter what side of the political spectrum you're on, stay safe.
A lovely start to a series which probably no one would have the guts to tell about. Goes to show that the "checks and balances" of a democracy need to be extended as much as they are to the 3 pillars to the media as well.
Thanks for this series richard, I have missed your sobering political analysis. I had no idea Josh Rogin was at the heart of the hyperbolic coverage of Trump in the beginning... I only became aware of him on Joe Rogan where was one of the only journalists willing to honestly speak on Lab Leak... what a shame to find he was duped/willfully misrepresented news stories about Trump. As you rightly say Rich, principles are nothing at all if not adhered to when the pressure's on.
I think the worst thing in politics, which exists in many countries, is that people want whoever is in charge to fail. That blows my mind that you want someone to make your country worse just because you don't agree with their political stance.
I still don't understand how the Manafort and other monitoring of campaign officials wasn't a bigger story. The "gate" we add on to big breaking stories comes from the Watergate scandal which did exactly this. Now it's written off as business as usual.
I will watch this series gladly for your reporting and perspective and not for the dopamine hit. But that is only possible because you're one of the few journalists grounded in reality.
One thing Bill Maher got right was when he said, ".... but I never had to worry about being dragged 'til I'm dead behind a Toyota Tacoma" when journalists/slacktivists talk about how America is 100% irredeemably terrible
Glad to see this series starting. It's really getting increasingly harder to get the truth and its tiring trying to get through all the BS to find out who's telling me what's really happened.
I stopped following mainstream media some good years ago, well before Trump, and I'm brazilian... Every creator whose work I follow is usually for a specific niche and I tend to ignore whatever side-note is made about politics and news. Even though I'm more interested in the FGC, I've followed your work for the other "side" of e-sports. But I'm always interested in whatever else you're willing to report or comment on even if I don't fully agree with, it reminds me of the kind of journalism that I used to respect. To me good journalism is essentially about believing that people are capable to make the best decision when well informed and with enough context, and putting yourself out there possibly in the sights of really powerful entities to give that information. I know the ratio of reasonable-to-moron isn't looking great these days, but I always appreciate and support whoever is still willing to stand up for that. Hopefully this is what will ultimately bring the change, moving away from the traditional media and finding individual reporters whom people feel they can trust.
Throughout the entire 45th presidency, I remember the jumps from insatiable story to insatiable story and I remember thinking about how great it would eventually be to hear it summarized in a fun little timeline. Just like this! What an incredible job you've done! I'd like to have a written summary of these things as well so if you know of that resource please share it.

Can you do a video about Operation Mockingbird, or alternatively US government influence in Hollywood? Those are fascinating topics as well, especially because Hollywood's global reach makes it pretty much one of the best propaganda tools on the planet.

The slack activism does a lot, eventhough it doesn't do anything at face value. It teaches the audience to be submissive and agree with the narrative, just like American prisoners in Chinawho were guided into slowly becoming more and more opposed to America, then fully defecting.
