    Apparently saying something is "full of water" is a Chinese way of saying something has been scammed or corrupt/graft. It doesn't literally mean that they're full of water just that the system is corrupt and lots of bribery etc.

      Wonder if we intentionally know that and use the phrase for spin, or if we think it's actually like that, or if they actually are, or if they're just empty of fuel instead of full of water?
      Either way, not literally being full of water, but being skimmed on, is probably not good

      The democratic system in the west is far more corrupted than the socialist system in China & one could see the inefficiencies of that Democratic system in the U.S. as a prime example of the systematic failures of capitalism in creating wealth for the 1% of the privileged few at the expense of the other 99% of its population. The throng of homelessness & mass shootings in schools & malls are another symptomatic decaying of a society being persistently neglected by its leadership. ! It would be difficult to find the problems of homelessness or mass shootings in China as opposed to that situation in the U.S. ! The massive lobbying & kickbacks in the U.S. Congress is another hallmark of corruption being openly committed.

    It's a misnomer to say they are the world's largest Army. It only looks that way because everything is under one umbrella. When the USAAF, split into the USAF, it made the Army smaller. When the USSF split from the USAF, it made the USAF smaller, but the numbers didn't change. It's like when they say the PLAN is the biggest Navy in the world when they count the tug boats as combat vessels. If you think about it like that it would actually make the US Army the second largest Navy since they have more cargo and transport ships than the Navy has combat ships. The purges are the result--CAN be the result--of only two things. China wanted to invade Taiwan and can't because military corruption has crippled their ability or China wants to invade Taiwan and all these senior military officers are warning that China's military is not ready for such a conflict.
    It's not even so much that Taiwan is make or break for the CCP. Taking Taiwan is important mostly for the larger geo-political implications that it would have: namely the end of US supremacy in the region and the establishment of powerful Chinese hegemony. So, the question is simple: is China gearing up for a fight but it's generals don't believe they can win? Or did China want a fight but it's generals left her in a position that she knows she can't win.
    Is the purge meant to unify? Or punish?

    • @DamocMetalFever
      @DamocMetalFever Pƙed 26 dny

      I share a similar conclusion: you purge only those you disagree with. Either their corruption hampers the PRC ambitions, or their political views run contrary to the will of Xi: either they opposed Xi's will to go to Taiwan (as he need something to quell some internal issues related to their economy) or they were hawks pushing for the invasion despite Xi not commited to it (but forcing the party to act like it). Alternatively it could be that those purged officers were planning a coup... Who knows? The only conclusions we can come up with is that there was a disagreement between those officers and Xi and Xi won.

    Not wise to underestimate China, but at same time a large surface fleet of generally lighter ships and smaller submarines overreliant on land based air and land based missiles, is an unweildy tool.
    Of course, if China was aggressive and willing to risk these ships and incur severe damage, it would not be a paper tiger simply because the US has defunded its navy and deliberately shrunk its defense base for 30 years.
    If however the PLAN emulates German and Italian doctrine from the last century and opts for a fleet in being strategy, that navy will end up a smashed and twisted mass of wreckage as the air and missile umbrella at first underperform and are then worn down and destroyed.
    China has to utilize it for early victory, because its long term manufacturing capacity will be crippled when oil is cut off and industry collapses (sealanes cut, pipelines hit by missile strikes).
    America by contrast, in a protracted war, will simple print a few trillion dollars, raise taxes and trim social spending, utilize defense production act and selective service, unleash oil production, and after six months of painful fits and starts, would be on way to full war footing.

    Okay, this is not going to be well received, but... Liquid fueled rockets such as those used by Russia and China rely on fuels that CANNOT be pumped into their tanks ahead of time because the fuel is so caustic that will dissolve first the seals, then the walls of the fuel tanks. These tanks can't sit empty because they're too thin-walled to resist warping, flexing, etc. Water, being both stable and non-compressible is a near perfect medium to keep the tanks full without damaging them. At game-time you pump the water out, the fuel in, and bingo.
