Excuse me. This is false advertising. It says “Cook Once Eat All Week”. I baked this exact dish and it didn’t last a day in my house with my family of 6. And there was no disclosure that the baked oatmeal tastes reminiscent of doughnut deliciousness! I would’ve liked a warning. Haha. Thank you for sharing your hobby and knowledge with everyone. Loved both of these meals.

YOU INSPIRE me. We have raised our 3 daughters. In all that time I wanted to can and grow our own food. I wasn't able to ever be able to fully manage to do that. But now that they have flown from the nest, I can begin to develop these skills more fully. And my daughter; who inspires me often with her beginning homestead;....we sat down one day in the heat of the afternoon after working in her garden. Sge put on tpur roasting pears video and I thought to myself: "Look at this young lady go!" I thought: "I can do this!" And I'm gonna break out my roaster when I get home and roast a whole huge bunch of apples my brother sent home with us and make our own apple sauce...something I've never done. So thank you and it was great to be able to say hi at the HOA conference! My daughter has followed you a while and before I fell asleep Friday night, I finally remembered to follow you. Yay! Thanks for doing what you do. Rock on!

Unless I am making a specific soup recipe, when I use my frozen shredded zucchini and have to squeeze out the liquid, I strain it into a bowl so I can add the liquid into my pan drippings/soup makings container in the freezer. When I go all out and make my own pie crust, I use lard and cold water. That combination gives a very flaky crust, this isn't my tip but from the lady everyone called 'Old Mrs. G'! As a kid, I was absolutely thrilled that these ladies from church allowed me to watch them make their magic. Old Mrs. G was also the master of maintaining the heat on the monster cast iron 5 or 6 shelf oven. Your baked oatmeal sounds amazing and I'm going to give it a try.

My favorite aunt still uses lard and you can definitely tell the difference. I have two tubs (smallest) in my food storage but also took the time to learn to render it myself. The meat counter was very nice when I asked for pig fat, lol. They saved me the trimmings from their cuts and I got 5 pounds of fat for less than the cost of one pork chop. So much lard. Learned tallow as well (beef fat). Now, they are nicely stored, used, and rotated. No pig or beef flavor, just pure beautiful clear fat. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I've been using vodka in my pie crusts for a while now. I learned about the science behind it from a Cook's magazine and it's awesome. I like using vanilla or coconut vodka when making pie dough for a dessert. It just adds a little extra flavor to the over all dish.
I'm thinking a quiche is on my near future menu.

In May this year I suffered a bereavement and found I couldn't sleep at night, so I tuned into You Tube and up you popped. I love watching your videos, it feels like I have a friend in the house and am no longer here on my own (well there is the dog and 2 cats!). I am in the UK and I try and grow my own veg (initially for 2, but now just me), so how to preserve everything has been a Godsend with your videos, I tried Water Bath canning last year (I don't have a pressure canner), as this is something 'new' to a lot of us in the UK and have just ordered a vacuum sealer, maybe next year I'll get a dehydrator? As I write this my Breakfast Apple Oats (your recipe) are cooking in the oven. I usually make overnight oats (no eggs) and leave them in the fridge overnight, but with the winter months coming along, thought I'd try your recipe as a hot breakfast. I am sure I will love it. However, I just wanted to ask the best way to store the portions, do you just divide them up into individual portions and keep them in the fridge, or do you freeze them? and then just blast them in the microwave in the morning? Many thanks and love your videos. Take care and stay safe in these terrible times. Jan xx

When I was a kid my folks would buy a half a cow and a half a pig and fill our freezer. with the pig the lard came in buckets for free. it was the only thing I used for crusts. You'll love it once you try it.

I just made a double batch of your baked oatmeal last night, but my husband wanted canned peaches in it. So I added a jar of sliced peaches, juice and all, instead of the apple sauce and chopped apples. Then I still did cinnamon but then added a heavy pinch of nutmeg as well because I thought that sounded great. Oh man, these are sooo good! Oh, I also had a quart of egg whites that was mostly gone from a recipe that needed using up, so I ended up adding that to the mix as well, after having added the 10 eggs, because I realized it was going to expire soon! So I just tossed in a little more oats and was good to go! This morning my 2 kids split one slice, I am eating one now that they headed off to school, and my hubby took one with him to work also! This is a definite win! ❤️❤️❤️

I love your channel. You work very hard and do so many things that many women don’t do in their life time. I like all of your videos, when you work on the garden you give me ideas, this is my second year planting. Last year I planted peppers and tomatoes and it went well. This year I planted zucchini, eggplant, pickle’s (different varieties) peppers, onions, lettuce, radishes and tomatoes. I don’t have a big backyard so it’s in small quantities. If my plants take off I will send you a picture. I also like when you cook. I can see that you enjoy all you do. It is very rare to see a young woman do all of that. Thank you for charging.

@@lindastrandquist2429I just bought some pickling lime to waterglass my eggs. They can stay in the solution over winter, and it preserves the eggs so that you can pull them out as needed. People have been preserving eggs this way since at least the 1700's.
Caveat: The eggs cannot have been washed. They still have to have their "bloom" on them. Also, you can't put soiled eggs in as it will contaminate the solution.

Some of my favorite baked oatmeal combinations are banana blueberry, peach blueberry and pumpkin craisin. And in making my recipe, I've gradually decreased the amount of sugar that now I don't add any, the fruit is sweet enough on its own. Except for the pumpkin one, I drizzle molasses on it once it reheats

I love making quiche but always resort to using a premade crust because I've struggled so badly with making crusts from scratch (both shortening and butter crusts). Will be making my artichoke & four Italian cheese and my goat cheese, tomato & basil quiches soon. They'll taste even more delicious with a good homemade crust! Thanks so much for sharing!
