You had me at ‘Sonny Terry’, and while it’s just nearly 4am here, I’m going to go practice!
Thanks Ed!
Yessss, very interested!! Thank you!!!
Sonny Terry’s music is what made me decide to get serious about harmonica when I was around 14. I got his book “country blues “. His playing with Brownie McGee was also great at showing me how to play with a guitar player.
My second record - the first was John Mayall.
Sonny was my first harmonica source of inspiration...i was very lucky to get some of his albums in spain back i. The 80 s in Spain ...their were quit dificult to find...
I inmediatly understoos his tec
great to hear! yes he's the rhythm master!
Nice one. This will keep me going for a few hours. Thanks

This is another lesson I'm going to have fun practicing!

Ed,
You give us some of the best sounds of old school harmonica playing.
thanks Michael!!
Great lesson brother
Lovely - really inspirational! I now understand a lot more that I did before this video...
Glad it was helpful!
Freakin awesome!!!
Ed, You are doing a Huge Blessing to the rest of us struggling to tame the Mississippi Sax/harp. Thanks from the bottom of my heart for the Excellent breakdown explanations. Will purchase a course from you as a form of payback, Jesse
Hi Jesse, thanks so much for your kind words! I’m really happy you’re enjoying the lessons. All the best. Ed

Nice one thanks! yes will do that cheers
@@TheHarmonicaBarge hi how did you go about developing the throat vibratio inward cough.. what's a good way to practice, build on. Build up? Thanks
@@CandidHarper it’s good to practice it without the harmonica first.
I used to do it riding my bike to work ;)
@@TheHarmonicaBarge hi silly question here. The base grove end with 2 draw notes. Its easier with one draw note. But my question is you end with 2 draw notes? Before going back into draw hole 2? Thanks
@@CandidHarper well spotted, I think I vary it when I play :)
You can try either way, the double at the end works well!
What is my harping life without you, Ed? Will we be seeing a lesson on Oh Cindy as well? I fell in love with her...
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷 brazil loves u Ed
If I wasn't married, and you weren't married, I would marry you. You ooze originality and coolness. Thank you.
Alan Lomax wrote the Blues Bible - The Land Where the Blues Again. His recordings are in the Smithsonian. There is no better historian of the blues.
yes he did amazing work, and we also have a fine historian today by the name of Adam Gussow :)
I am excited after one of your videos popped up on my feed! After this roller coaster harmonica playing for years this is basically the first I've heard of rhythm styles. That was in the mix somewhat but not specifically.. This is probably a dumb question but what about chord changes?
Hi Greg, great your into the rhythm stuff.
My opinion on chord changes is that they are over rated :)
Jokes aside, it’s a much longer answer. In my longer In Depth lessons I have a number of systems for adapting rhythm parts for changes.
I’ll prob make some free lessons on this soon too .
Cheers. Ed
@@TheHarmonicaBarge Thanks so much for your reply!! Looking forward to more info. 😀 I am trying to adapt to playing gospel music in church and this seems the way to go. Thanks again!!
Hey Ed are you tongue blocking or quick breaths? Loving the sound and techniques!
hey there, thanks! When I play the double chords, I'm doing a small articulation in the throat to make the 'bounce' :) hop this helps
Once you have it down, and can groove with it, are you using any articulations?
it depends on the sound/feel I want. Articulations create certain effects to give a more percussive sound. The Less articulation, the more resonant the sound- generally speaking :)
Can you teach me jugband and ragtime blues music and all kinds of country and folk blues styles not chichigo style please
Sure! Would you say Sonny Terry is Chicago Blues?

He played his harmonica backwards.
