    Dude, mineral spirits is all you need. WD-40 has petroleum distillates in it and will damage your bezel gasket. That’s why your gasket got floppy. Just put some mineral spirits in a glass and toss the bezel in overnight. It can also be used to remove left over adhesive from the insert and the bezel.

    • @minitwatch
      @minitwatch  Před 3 lety +2

      The gasket wasn't even soaked :p It flew out after I popped the bezel out. It was floppy because It has low T. So, aren't mineral spirits like 100% petroleum distillates? That's my understanding and also that it only causes swelling with EPDM which those gaskets usually aren't made out of. I did look this all up before I did it but I value your info! You've always helped a lot. Cheers!

    I decided to just not care about being classy for this video :p I don't know what all that blue stuff is on the strap at the end of the video. I think it got melted somehow. I might have put the strap on something really hot. I'm not sure. Anyway. I hope you all have a fantastic week! Also, thanks to Carlos at LCBI!

      Hi, did you put the watch face down on Goo Gone to soak? does it affect the glass waterproofing?

    • @commentjedi
      @commentjedi Před 2 lety +1

      @@thenande Not at all. Just dab a q-tip into the goo-gone and then dab the bezel rim so it goes in the crack, all the way around, then wait an hour.
      Use a peg wood to push on the insert to rotate it loose.

    • @commentjedi

    I've used Goo Gone for that insert. Never thought of wD-40. Goo Gone takes an hour.

  • @rodpanhard
    @rodpanhard Před 3 lety +3

    You get a solvent for removing grip tape from golf clubs called golf grip solvent, if you soak the bezel in that for a few hours or leave it overnight the insert will just fall off completely undamaged and any old adhesive tape residue will clean off easily. Use contact adhesive to appy it again.

    • @minitwatch
      @minitwatch  Před 3 lety +4

      If I left the insert over night, the same thing would happen. I have done this before with other things but I got impatient. Still, I like the name GRIP SOLVENT so I'll investigate haha! Cheers!

    Great job on this one!!!
    You & The Boys were in rare form... Very nice....
    Ted: It's LCBI!!!
    Uncle Jimmy: Lmnop...
    Ted: my god.... (shakes head in disgust....)
    Uncle Jimmy: It sounds like bull.... It sounds like a load of crap!
    Ted: it is... (nods head..)
    Curt: giggles hysterically as he puts a q-tip into the alcohol bottle..... Heh heh heh heh!
    Ahhh, such a delight.
    And that burp at the beginning... Mwwwuuaaah! Chef's kiss. Good tone, good duration, nice resonance and depth.... Very nice... Nice rip... Yeah, those fizzy seltzer things, wow....
    Okay okay, sorry.... Very sorry.... Actually the bezel looks great. And you did a great job. Very nice.
    I feel like the WD-40 did not ruin the o-ring. And it wouldn't.... The O-ring was out before you did the soak anyways, so.... I am sure the WD-40 did loosen the glue....And it clearly did not damage the light blue bezel insert, so that seemed to work great.... Nice job. Nice.
    I have never had a problem messing with bezels & bezel inserts.... Now, I thank god nobody ever watched me try to put the handset back on that SKX.... Uncle Jimmy would have had plenty to say about my spastic attempts to do THAT..... Ouch.... Brutal. I need some old crappy watches to practice on, before i try that again.... Or drink more before I start... Or drink less before I start.... I'm not sure. Research would be needed.....

    EDIT to Long Island comment below: Just checked his video, actually Marc used Golf Grip Tape Solvent. He says what's good besides making it easy to remove insert is it won't degrade rubber gaskets. I think a very good thing for a dive watch.
    I have to do a bezel removal and replacement on an NTH sub. I am trying to avoid removing the bezel. May try something like goo gone.. I think there's another glue/gunk removal that uses citrus oil of some kind.. something I saw Marc from Long Island watch do. Seems easy to just let the face of watch dip in some of that for a few hours...
    Overnight? And the bezel should just almost fall out. Will see soon.
    Your videos are always fun to watch.

      @@minitwatch no I haven't done any real mods to seiko watches yet I just got my hands on a "seiko srpe71j1" last week, was super happy until I realized the bezel needed to be fixed, someone or something before I received it... tried to turn the bezel backwards and bent spring or something.. F'ed it all up cuz it wouldn't spend counter clockwise like it was supposed to '"buttery smooth'".. I had to wrench down on it like the Ninja Turtles🐢 I am to turn that bad boy and felt like it was going to rip my F'ing fingers off so long story short bought new parts and fixed it....
      but I do modifications with old nintendo consoles, game boys, and cell phones and electronics an stuff and i use the same 3M adhesive tape an sometimes I got to get that shit off, so i use zippo fuel to get that crap up it kick a$$ and then use 98% rubbing alcohol to clean things up.. wow 😱I ended up writing a lot more than I wanted to well I guess that's how it goes keep up the awesome work 👍👍

    and if the bezel is insistant it will do serious demage to the watch
    juat use bezel removal tool instead.

    I will tell you a secret,just turn your watch upside and dip( not much alcohol,just enough to submerge bezel)in alcohol or acetone for 1 hour and you can strip your ceramic without taking of the bezel.
    P.S don’t ever use any other tool except 1mill screwdriver which is ideal for bezel insert removal!!
